We have four children, two of which are adults now, but all of them have gone here off and on over the years. Approximately 1-2 years ago I pulled both our younger two boys out of here and transferred their care to my personal physician. The reason I did this is because most of the times we would take them in, yes these were almost exclusively scheduled appointments, we would be promptly parked in a room and left to sit forever with nobody ever coming back to let us know what was going on. Unfortunately, my doctor moved out of state and my wife really liked some of the staff at dsm pediatric, so we decided to go back. I figured, hey its been a while so maybe things have improved. Today was the first time Ive taken one of the kids there myself since we switched back. My son had missed 3 days of school and was now running a high fever. I called ahead and specifically asked if they had an opening or if I should take him to the walk-in clinic instead. They said they just happened to have an opening at 2:10. We arrived right around 2. At 2:10 we were directed to a room and the usual 30 second preliminary nurse evaluation. Then, here we go again. At 2:40 I walked out into the hallway to find somebody. Now, just for some clarification, there was only ONE child in the waiting room while we sat there prior to going back. Hard to say how many might have been in rooms, but they didnt appear to be very busy. I was told that they forgot to write our name down on the board. So, who knows how much longer we might have sat in that room had I not went looking for someone. Another almost ten minutes went by before a doctor came in. Now, Ill give her credit. She was very attentive and did a great job evaluating my son and I was pleased with the diagnosis and resolution. He needed three medications and I told them which pharmacy we use. I left there to go clear to wdsm to pick up my other son from school and then to walgreens at beaver and douglas. This was now approximately 45 minutes after we left the clinic. Walgreens had no scripts and they even checked their voice mail for me. I called the clinic back and explained what was going on and was then parked on hold for 8 minutes. I finally hung up and called back and they again were going to put me on hold and at that point I lost it. Come to find out that they hadnt even called in the scripts yet. So, now I have to make another trip back to walgreens. My bottom line take on this location; the care is very good. Weve never really had any complaints about that part. But my own personal experiences over the years is that their attention to a clients time is extremely poor. I get the impression your time is not a priority for them. Im not blind to the fact that doctor appointments cant always be prompt as unforseen circumstances do arise, but this is absolutely a pattern here. So, I dont know if its just the general attitude of the staff or if its a lack of structured protocols. In conclusion, the care is quite good, but be prepared to possibly spend considerable time waiting with nobody checking in on you. Now Im headed back to the pharmacy again. Hopefully my sons medications are ready now...

Very disappointed so far. My husbands work switched insurance carriers, so we were given a list of local providers and chose this office for our primary care doctor for the kids. I called, and Deb wouldnt schedule them for any appointment. She said we needed to get records from their previous doctors first. After calling other doctors, I found out we needed the new doctors office to send the request. So, I called back. She then said yes, I could come in to fill out the forms. OK. She then told me we should have called before we even chose them for our doctor because they might not have any openings for new patients. I asked if thats the case, and she said no. So why even tell me that? But she said it would take a long time to gather all of their previous records since we moved from out of state years ago. And she said they cant schedule us until we gather all of those records. Apparently, it falls on us to do that? Im very frustrated. I just want my kids to be able to have a check up before the school year. I dont recommend choosing this place to switch to, as they seem to make it very difficult. Maybe its easy if you start out there with a new baby.

Dr. Waggoner opened a new office out at the Clive location, from what I understand. I tried to call to get medical records for my daughter yesterday and I received a phone call back within 24 hours. I have just received another call and got all of the information I needed. I have never had a problem when working with Dr. Waggoner. This is a relief, because my daughter has a rare form of epilepsy and so many people will not listen when I come to them with concerns. It is refreshing to have had a clinic where they understand what kind of medical issues you are dealing with on a constant basis and arent afraid to listen or learn with you and help you figure it out. When you have it all on paper and no one will listen, that is one of the most frustrating things as a parent. Especially when your child is ill! I am very thankful for all of the assistance from Des Moines Pediatric and Adolescent Clinic when Dr. Waggoner was there. Wishing all staff the best of luck and good wishes in their new endeavors. :)

I dont know what happened that Dr. Waggoner and this office are no longer together but the lady that answered the phone was rude to the point of being almost childish. One location is close to me and the other is close to my wifes work so I wasnt sure which office she took my son to last week. His cold isnt getting any better so I wanted to talk to the Dr.s nurse. I can GUARANTEE you that I will never set foot in this office again. Im almost embarrassed for you.

I cant imagine taking my children anywhere else. They usually run on schedule, but when Ive had to wait a little bit I know its because they are seeing other sick kids from other families. I know if my children are sick theyll make sure they see us that day, so I can wait a couple of minutes. The staff was so friendly and helpful a few years ago when I moved here from another location. I am so thankful we found them!

We recently moved to Beaverdale from another state. I feel very fortunate to have found Dr. Petersen as the doctor for my two kids. She is awesome! She is always gentle, kind & caring with my kids when they go to see her. I would definitely recommend Dr. Petersen to anyone. So far I have had no issues with the front staff, whenever I have called with questions or concerns they have always been kind and helpful.

Very bad service from the receptionist and nurses. Physicians are friendly to a point. The staff is not willing to fix whenever they screw up something which they do a lot. Always trying to convince you it is actually your fault they messed up. We will be switching to a different provider where staff at least attempts to care about what they do and about their patients. Not recommended to anyone.
