That One Guy

My family went here from 2005-2017. Overall I would NOT recommend this clinic. PROS: Julie Boardman. THE BEST hygienist in all of Iowa. She is incredibly nice and does excellent work. I cannot say enough good things about her. She is honestly the reason we stayed here so long. Front desk staff is usually nice. Tuesday night appointments until 6pm are convenient for the people that work during the day. Office is clean. Recent remodel. CONS: Been a client here for 12 years and Dr. Meyer still does not know where my wife is from. Shes a foreigner, one of a few who go there, shouldnt be that hard to remember. After 12 years you should know my life history. Helen, the nicest receptionist in history, recently passed away and the current front desk staff cant quite match up to her level of warm greetings and conversation. Not a huge con, because she was superior. Dr. Meyer fired Dr Nahas so his daughter could work there. Dr. Nahas was a great dentist. The clinic is rife with nepotism. When my daughter was 2 we had her see Dr. Meyer for her first appointment. He asked us to leave during the middle of the exam because she was crying and 2 years old. If youre going to advertise family dentistry you should know this is pretty much the norm at 2 years old. Have some patience and pretend youre not angry or dont attend children. Dr. Meyer had done bridge work for my wife. Other dentists at other clinics that we have had her see have all asked where the work was done (weve been trying to escape that clinic for years, believe me). When we ask why theyre asking they say because the work was very poorly done. She is still trying to get some issues fixed from this shoddy work done years ago. I had some sensitivity to pain and tried to get it fixed. I knew it was one of my back molars. Ali Meyer (Dr. Meyers daughter) decided to fix a very small cavity towards the front of my mouth because thats what she thought the problem was. I went back a week or two later because that obviously didnt fix the problem. She then filled a cavity on the other side of my mouth and suggested an endodontist appointment for a root canal. I wanted her to redo some fillings in my molars to see if that was the problem, but she insisted the next step was endo. I ended up going to a different dentist to figure out the problem. We concluded which molar was causing the sensitivity. That filling (that Dr. Meyers did) was dug out and refilled. Problem fixed immediately.

Do NOT go to Dr. Ashley Edwards here. After I moved to West Des Moines, I was looking around for a dentist that had later hours, and I thought I found the perfect place. The assistant took xrays, which was uncomfortable, but not a new experience for me because I have a shallow mouth. The shocker came when Dr. Edwards looked at the xrays and informed me that I had NINE cavities that needed fillings. I was immediately suspicious, because I had been to my regular dentist in Ames about a year before that and had no concerns. I brushed my teeth and flossed, and I was shocked to hear her say I would need to get them all fixed soon. Luckily for me, my guard was up and I told her I would schedule an appointment later. Honestly, I didnt believe her diagnosis and I wanted another opinion. I ended up returning to my dentist in Ames 6 months later, and what do you know, I have NO cavities. Not a single one! It is clear to me that Dr. Edwards is either not very good at her job, or was trying to intentionally grab money from me. Im unsure of which is worse. Regardless, I will NOT be returning, and am warning everyone I know to avoid this place!

This was my first dentist appointment in 5 years. Dr. Ashely Edwards was one of the best dentists Ive had work done by. My appointment started out with xrays and her looking at my teeth where she determined I had two fillings that were leaking and causing a cavity. She gave me two anesthetic shots and I did not feel either of them which has never happened to me previously (I normally have tears running down my face at other places). After fixing my fillings she did a clening which was also smooth and pain free. Dr. Edwards is fast, efficient and very friendly! Great experiance as I am normally really nervous about going to the dentist hence the 5 year break. Thank you Dr. Edwards!! I will definitely be coming back and recommending other patients!!

I LOVE THIS OFFICE, DR. MEYER, THE TECHNICIANS, DENTAL ASSTS, EVEN RECEPTIONISTS. I HAVE BEEN GOING HERE 15-20 YEARS. EVERYONE IS ALWAYS WARM, LOVING, LIKE FAMILY AND PROFESSIONAL. I HAVE TRIED OTHER DENTISTS AT DIFFRENT TIMES FOR EMERGENCIES AND DIFFRENT ISSUES AND NO ONE COMPARES TO THIS WONDERFUL OFFICE AND STAFF. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS OFFICE AS MY EXPERIENCES HAVE BEEN OUTSTANDING AND IM RETURNING AGAIN TO HAVE MORE WORK DONE AS TO MAINTAIN A HEALTHY MOUTH AND I AM ENTRUSTING THIS OFFICE ONCE AGAIN KNOWING FULL WELL THEY WILL GET THE JOB. GOD BLESS THESE LOVELY PEOPLE THAT ARE MAKING SURE OUR MOUTHS ARE HEALTHY FOR US TO CONTINUE ON SUCCESSFULLY IN LIFE...AMEN!!!

I scheduled an appointment for a routine cleaning, and I can say that I am very pleased with my visit. They took the right amount of time needed to perform a quality service. Fabulous! Sara, our hygienist, used disclosing tablets on my children to show them where to brush better. In the 12 years my kids have seen a dentist, no one has taken the time to do that, very thorough. Great experience!!
