I have been taking my dogs to GAVH since 1999 and have had wonderful experiences with many vets over the years. More recently, Dr. Jane Keegan has been instrumental in the medical care of my lab/pit mix, Camden. Dr. Keegan has gone above and beyond her scope of work to make sure Camden has had the most consistent and appropriate care. Due to his timid nature, Dr. Keegan spends extra time making Camden feel comfortable interacting with her. She always makes sure to approach him slowly, calmly, and sweetly and always has a treat for him. Camden has actually started wagging his tail and becoming excited to see her! Over the past few years, Camden has had many issues with skin and ear infections. Dr. Keegan consistently offers a variety of treatment approaches and thoroughly explains each option, making sure I fully understand. She talks me through the pros and cons of each treatment and allows me to be included in the final decision. She consistently contacts me after each appointment to check on Camdens progress and takes the time to answer all of my questions and concerns. Dr. Keegan has continued to keep my financial situation in mind and always offers me cost-effective solutions while doing everything in her power to save me money. She has definitely done her research to find the best deals on medications and specialty dog food (which can get crazy expensive). Even though I moved out of Annapolis over 3 years ago, I have continued taking both my pups to Dr. Keegan because of my appreciation for her above and beyond care of animals. I plan on staying with GAVH and Dr. Keegan as long as possible. I would highly, highly recommend Dr. Keegan to anyone and everyone looking for the highest quality care for their pets.

I highly recommend this facility and particularly the people who make this place special. I just had a very difficult and challenging couple of days where my father had to decide whether it was time for his beloved pet to pass. Naturally, my father was incredibly reluctant to make this decision. And he was not in a position to know what needed to happen except for the expertise of the the GAVH staff. His very old dog was worsening with each day and we were facing some important quality of life issues. Because there was some urgency to our situation, the GAVH folks prioritized our situation evaluating what could or should be done and then taking the time to talk with my father about the issues and helped outline a process for making this decision. They were incredibly patient and loving with my father and with his dear pooch. What struck me the most was how the GAVH staff made the well-being of the dog the focal point when they could have very well pushed medical procedures/medications to my father who had no idea what was best for that moment. It was clear that their primary focus was the overall well-being of the dog. I ascribe all of this to the wonderful staff at the hospital from the person who answered the phone, to the professionalism, integrity, and compassion of the vet Dr. Monk who made himself fully available both in terms of time and spirit to help my father (and me) through this difficult day. I can honestly say coming to GAVH made me appreciate how there are still businesses out there that are about the well-being of our animals and their clients - and not the mighty dollar.

I have heard good things about GAVH for dogs and cats, and when I called, they said they had guinea pig vets. However, I am very displeased with how my pig was treated. I took my guinea pig in because he got into a fight and had a respiratory infection. They didnt treat the bite wound, though it was swollen, and gave me an antibiotic for the infection. A week later, the antibiotic didnt work, which is understandable, so I got a new one. At the same time I got the new antibiotic, I pointed out a lump on my guinea pigs stomach which was diagnosed as a "swollen lymph node". The 2nd antibiotic worked on the respiratory infection, but the bite wound on the face and the "lymph node" got larger. I took my guinea pig back, and I was told that I would need surgery and they would likely have to refer me to a specialist in VA. The vet then told me how hard surgery and anesthesia is on guinea pigs and that many of them dont wake up. I left devastated, but my bf encouraged me to get a 2nd opinion. A guinea pig rescuer I know also expressed doubt that the bite wound was so severe. So, I went somewhere else, and they said the "lymph node" was another abscess, and the new vet aspirated both abscesses. I am happy to say that my guinea pig never needed any surgery, and a simple expression of the abscesses in combo with the antibiotics was all that he needed. I will never take my guinea pigs there again. I know guinea pigs are difficult to treat, but dont admit guinea pigs if your vets are not experienced with them.

We have been coming here with our cats for the past three years and are really sorry to have to leave this vet now that we are moving. We have seen several different doctors here and all of them have been wonderful about answering our questions and taking good care of our kitties. They are also very considerate. We saw Dr. Daher when we took one of our cats in for weight loss and bloating (which we discovered to be aggressive liver cancer after some tests), and happened to see her again in the same exam room when we brought our new kitty in for a check-up about a month and a half later. Not only did she express her condolences for the loss of our kitty, she also remembered that it had been the same room where we had initially received the bad news, and asked if we would prefer not to be seen in that room again. Dr. Keegan also helped us finally find a medication that keeps our oldest cats allergies under control and keeps him from scratching himself to the point where hes bloody. We have had nothing but positive experiences with everyone at GAVH and could not more highly recommend them. We only hope that we can find a vet thats half as good near our new home!

This is the best Veterinary Hospital I have ever used. We bring all of our cats here now and have had services ranging from routine exams, to thorough screenings, and sadly to the euthanasia of one of our beloved cats. Throughout all of these visits the staff and doctors have been wonderful. Their "bedside manner" is fantastic and they always work hard to find a solution to whatever is ailing our cats. When one of our cats became sick last summer and it became apparent that it was time to let him go, everyone was extremely sensitive and caring during what was a very difficult time for our family, and for that I will forever be grateful. On a less personal note, it is always easy to get an appointment here, often same day, and I have found the rates for all services to be very reasonable, especially when coupled with the level of care given. I cant recommend GAVH enough-they are fantastic and I wouldnt think about going elsewhere.

I inadvertently stumbled on this website looking for the emergency clinic phone number for a test my dog needs tomorrow. But so used to dealing exclusively with GAVH, here I am typing in GAVH. Ha, ha. I saw the reviews for Drs. Woodburn and Woodburn, husband and wife. In my opinion, and weve been taking multiple furry babies to GAVH, there are no better veterinarians on earth than Woody and Norma Woodburn. When one of ours is in trouble, my first call to GAVH hospital begins with, "Is Woody or Norma on today and if not, when will they be in." They stay on top of the latest research, go to conferences, and are the best of the best. I say same about Dr. Harrison Monk, also and thats my next question to staff if I cannot reach either of the Dr. Woodburns. These folks are seasoned veterinarians, who have "seen it all," -- the go to vets, especially when things may not be looking good or its complicated.
