Doctor Ian Shantz is a excellent family physician. He takes the time to truly listen to each patient and to make sure he covers all of what ails you. Doctor Shantz answers all questions fully and will refer the patient to look at clinical data as needed. Doctor Shantz will refer you to a specialist if there is something where you can benefit from seeing a true expert in one specific part of your body. Doctor Shantz is a wonderful doctor and a true healer. He combines excellent service and active listening with his analysis of the latest research data. I highly recommend Doctor Shantz to be your primary care physician, you will be in great hands.

I was referred here by a friend, after having recieving what I considered to be subpar treatment from the hopkins branch office in odenton. Waugh Chapel is professional, the staff is friendly, and my doctor (Schantz) is excellent. On several occassions, the staff worked with me to squeeze me in to a non-existant appointment slot soon after opening taking advantage of my living nearby. My physician never seems in a rush to get to the next patient, is responsive to my questions/concerns, and adapts his treatement well upon learning my medical history. I have definitely found a general practice to be happy with, highly recommend.

Not suited for anything other than your everyday ailment. Would especially not go to them for any psych issues, as their protocol seems to be direct from a medical school textbook, with no effort at making any referrals. Also not very accommodating to anyone with transportation difficulties who have a hard time getting to appointments, if you do not have steady transportation, do not go to this office, as they will discharge you. I will say theyre very polite and courteous face to face.

I have been a patient of Dr. Shantz for over 20 years. I think the world of him and I have nothing but good things to say about him. However, in recent years his practice has grown to the point that it is difficult to get through by phone and difficult to make a timely appointment. The front office staff are not very friendly, but I suspect it is because they are overwhelmed with too many patients. I hate to say it, but I am considering looking elsewhere for a primary physician.

I happen to think Dr. Afzal is pretty darn amazing. I have a complicated medical issue and needed someone to deal with me as a whole. He always listens and takes time. Doesnt make me feel crazy and doesnt through pills at me like every other doctor. I appreciate his calm and very soothing demeanor. The only issue I can say is that I wish more were like him...
