We have a suspicious, intact 70lb working line German Shepherd female, and she has proven problematic for a number of Vets we attempted to visit because of ideology rather than the behavior of our dog. That she is not spayed, that she is engaged in Protection Sports, and even that she is a German Shepherd has provoked some outright hostile judgments from people we are paying to look after the best interests of our animal. When we brought our pup to Harvard Vet there was no hasty grab for a muzzle, no hesitation, no lecture, nothing but a wonderful approach of ducking right into her side and checking her over and the dog responded immediately by calming down and accepting the exam. I lament the retirement of this outstanding Veterinarian, a man who is the closest to James Harriot that i will ever meet, and his straightforward approach to all animals, even the "scary" ones.

After finding my vet of three years had changed their way of operating for the worse after three years, I decided to drive 45 minutes from my home to Dr. Damitz of Harvard Vet. Dr. Damitz examined my pets with great care and compassion and his approach of treating ailments, only when it is necessary will have me driving to and from Harvard for the lifetime of these pets. In an age when most vets aim to maximize revenue by suggesting unnecessary bloodwork, surgeries and medications, Dr. Damitz is a breath of fresh air. He may be one of the few left of a fast departing generation of vets.

Ive used Harvard Vet (Dr. Damitz) for about 4 years now. Good vet skills, and good listening skills (important for dealing with the owner, aka me!). I also agree he has old-fashioned "horse" sense about treatments, and doesnt push the expensive procedures like some vets do. I switched from another local vet, who seemed a good vet, but liked to do all those expensive procedures. I dont care to fund someones boat, if you know what I mean.

I hope he never retires! There is no one else in his business, after trying to find someone for 8 years, that has the instinct, skill, forthrightness, honesty and humility and absolute love for animals. Weve tried various Vets geographically closer to us, and have always been disappointed at the care, and the extra fees they charge. Dr. Damitz, you are brilliant and wonderful...wish we could create a mold of you!

We love Dr. Damitz. He has been our Vet for more than 15 years. Jupiter, my lab/Airedale mix, sees him once a year for shots and thats it. Angus, our diabetic blind arthritic miniature schnauzer, needed a lot more attention and he got what he needed at Harvard Vet Clinic. He lived a long happy life. We hope Dr. Damitz never retires.
