I was referred to Milford Animal Hospital for a neuter for my 14 month old Rottweiler. I am AMAZED that individuals who take an OATH to medicine - will PICK AND CHOOSE who they wish to provide care. As soon as I mention I have a SNAP certificate, many vets back off (so then why even participate in the program?). I am with a limited income and I am trying to do RIGHT by this dog that was abandoned by my ex fiance when he left. I did not want this dog - but it was not the dogs choice to be left behind by his true owner. To Dr. Hellers credit (hence the one star) they were willing to move forward. BUT then I explained he is a 14 month old Rottweiler. Apparently vets do not like neutering large dogs either as this has been a reason for some to back off. Maybe the MSPCA should promote neutering for your animal - with a disclaimer (UNLESS IT IS A LARGE DOG). But, with the fact of size and SNAP they were going to arrange a date. (I guess because I agreed to the additional vet visit cost and the additional cost for the size). BUT THEN, we get to the part where my Rottweiler is crypto. So instead I got "well, we cant do it for awhile because Dr. Heller will be out of town, and he does not have to participate in the SNAP program, so we wont be able to help you". WOW! Why does ANY Vet go into practice if you are going to be selective about the animals you treat and the income of those who seek treatment? So much for the love of animals and their well-being be the driving force. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE.

I dont buy what Anastasia has written and its prompted me to write about the treatment I received. Two years ago, my 18 year old cat started failing. I called Milford Animal Hospital at 8:30 pm on a Friday night and got the answering service. I explained what was going on and they said they would contact Dr Heller. He personally called me back so I could explain what the issue was. He was at an awards ceremony (he was receiving an award) and he took the time to call be back. Not only that, he explained he was approximately an hour away but he would leave the ceremony and meet me back at the hospital. This was an otherwise extremely healthy cat that had just reached the end but he didnt know that until he gave her a checkup. Because of his compassion, Ferny was able to go peacefully and not suffer a moment longer. But wait, theres more.. He knew how upsetting it was for me to put her to sleep and a few days later, I received a condolence card reassuring me that I made the right decision. CLEARLY, this is not a person or a hospital that doesnt care about animals!

Wow. I am really sorry to read about the experience this other person had. My husband and I have many companion animals and have nothing but praise for the doctor and his staff. We moved about 45 minutes away and after looking for a place close to home, we decided to go back to Milford Animal Hospital. The many places we had tried - and we had very sick pets who where at 24 emergency hospitals (grafton, walpole and Angell) in addition to "regular" vets - we went to so many places. Often I had the feeling that there was a lot of needless testing before any diagnosis would be made - test results take time and our cats suffered from the testing and from not getting treatment - several died as they "waited." Regular visits were never regular either; there seemed to be some kind of test that had to be run. Milford Animal is completely different. Testing is to assist diagnosis not to rule out every blessed thing under the sun. The doctor has enough knowledge to diagnose and treat effectively. I have always felt that our cats are treated with a lot of care.

I have been going to Milford Animal Hospital consistently for more than 10 years and have always gotten excellent treatment for my pets. (4 dogs) One of my dogs is a rescue that has had severe allergies and has gotten fantastic help over the years. (the animal hospital is his second favorite place to visit) One of my other dogs had severe seizures and required tuning of medications to help him. In all cases the approach to treatment has been both caring and pragmatic. I really appreciate the straight talk when it comes to options available for treatment. Dr. Heller and his staff always take the time to explain the reasons for various tests/treatments. My family and I are consistently grateful for the care provided by Milford Animal Hospital.

Dr. Heller is a dedicated, knowledgeable, compassionate vet. One Easter several years ago, my cocker spaniel urinated with blood. We called the doctor, got his answering service, explained the problem and he called back almost immediately. After I apologized for interrupting his Easter, I explained the problem again and he gave us a homeopathic remedy for the day and had me bring her in the next day. The remedy worked and when he saw her the next day he prescribed something that cured her of the problem, and gave us information so that it wouldnt happen again. Frankly, hes the best Vet Ive ever dealt with. My Cocker is now 12 years old and still healthy and we now have a Rottweiller. Dr. Heller is our Vet and will be forever.

Ive been going to Dr. Heller since I adopted my cat, Zabu, 8 years ago. During that time, my cat has had several health issues (severe feline acne, food allergies and heart disease). Tufts veterinary school was insisting that I go to a cat cardiologist and ran several costly tests on my cat. Dr. Heller had offered another option, to bring the cat in to the office for a day when they had an ultrasound machine so that they could monitor my cats heart condition. It was a sensible decision that has saved me money and the cat is doing fantastic (and less stressed). Dr. Heller is the best vet Ive ever had and will always be my vet. I would and do recommend him to my friends.

When I brought my cat there (granted not the smallest of cats, weight 14lbs and she hates the vet) all he could say is we dont want her getting diabetes now. I understand that completely, but wouldnt you do blood work to see that everything is okay? Also, this post is edited because they went above and beyond to call my mother and ask to take the post down. Next time call me, you have my number on record. Maybe you should worry more about your services and you appearance will follow suit.

Be weary for emergency calls to this hospital. Upon telling about my dogs injury an older man told me they only take emergencies and hung up on me. Rude! Buyer beware, if they treat humans like this - imagine how they treat your animals.
