I just came from an appointment with Aspen Dental in Haverhill, MA. I broke a tooth over the weekend and yes, they scheduled me right away. I was a new patient. However, the experience was not pleasant and they didnt inspire a great deal of confidence. The technician took an inordinate number of x-rays. Must have been 15-18 x-rays. The technician who took the x-rays was sullen, barely spoke loud enough for me to hear her through her mask, and didnt seem like she was happy to be working there. I was then given over to a series of assistants and finally the dentist. They kept pushing procedures at me, whitening, cleanings, gum care, and gave dire warnings about my teeth, even though they said my teeth and gums were in good shape. No cavities, no gum issues. When I finally saw the dentist, she proposed a venire finish to fix my cracked tooth, but she said that the procedure would probably not work and they would need to do a root canal. When I asked her why not just do the root canal, she said that the stepped procedure was the correct approach. But why perform a procedure, if you dont think its going to work? When I asked about the cost, she said if the procedure fails, then they will roll the cost into the next procedure. But what about the time and discomfort of doing the procedure, if its not going to work? And what about the deductible and limits on my insurance? If I spend the money on a failed procedure, I wont have the insurance coverage for the later procedure. The dentist also recommended that another procedure be performed, because I had a small bit of root sticking up from a prior procedure. She said there was a good chance of infection, even though the root has been there for over 10 years. Again, they kept pushing procedures at me, even though my main complaint was the cracked tooth. I was then given to a "payment specialist" to talk about payment options for the procedures. It was like buying a car at a used car dealership. She wasnt clear about what procedures were covered, so I asked for details. She didnt answer my questions clearly, so I had to ask again. And again. I finally got my questions answered. I dropped all of the extra procedures they had pushed at me. You have to pay for the procedure upfront, so I did. After I left, I regretted my decision and made an appointment with another dentist to get a second opinion. When I called Aspen dental to get the x-rays I had just taken, they said they couldnt be released for 2 weeks (even though they are electronic images). When I said I wanted to cancel the procedure, they said fine, but I wouldnt get a refund on my credit card for 2 weeks. The Aspen Dental commercials on TV are cute and funny, but they dont reflect the actual experience at Aspen Dental. At least not the Aspen Dental in Haverhill, MA. Steer clear of these guys, if you can.

I had a series of horrible experiences with this hack shop. They dont have rooms. Its all open cubicles. No privacy and the Dr.s get extremely distracted. I went in for oral surgery. They have no recovery room so I woke up in the chair with a nurses hands in my mouth. It was terrifying. I didnt know if they were starting the procedure or ending it. Then they immediately shuffled me out. I ended up getting a dry socket and had to call the emergency line to get pain meds for the weekend. When I went in for assistance they gave me mouth wash and sent me home. I had to come back again because the pain was so bad. Dr. Pathek finally put packs on that helped numb the pain. Then I went in for a standard filling, because I had pain in my rear molar. I had to schedule an appt just for them to determine what to do. At that time Dr. Jana Sokol told me I needed a root canal and began to push me out the door. I asked for a second opinion and she got indignant. She then looked to see she was looking at the tooth that they removed months earlier. No apology. She simply scheduled the standard filling as a second appt. I came in later that day.The entire time she was focused on correcting her assistant and was repeatedly interrupted by other staff. As soon as the novacaine wore off I was in severe pain. I went back to her. She took an x-ray and was again indignant that it was a perfect filling. She finally took it out after saying basically that it was all in my head. She put in a temporary filling "to calm down the nerve". I had to get the assistant to explain all this to me. The Dr would not show me x-rays or talk to me about what she was doing. I still had tremendous pain after weeks. I scheduled to see Dr. Pathek. The only Dr. I have had good experiences with there. She ground down the filling that was simply built too high. The pain subsided a great deal. However, I can not go back to Dr. Pathek because she is a "float dr" and cant have patients. I am finally going to try Wilmington Family dental since I still have temporary filling and still have some pain even after 4 visits with Aspen. Please dont go there. I may need a root canal after the stress they put my nerve through.

Would not recommend going there for anyone. The receptionists were GREAT, professional, and welcoming. Its a shame they arent in a better office. Black lady who runs the place is terrible, needs to be fired for her being so rude, unprofessional, and even revealed that the office claimed and billed my husbands insurance for a scaling that NEVER happened. Husbands visit: He went to get a crown replacement. The tech dropped the tooth four times. The last time she dropped it on the floor and tried to put it back in without even sterilizing it! He stopped her then and got someone else to help. He says he really liked the dentists and receptionists but they unfortunately did not perform quality dental work. Also, he declined the suggestion of getting a scaling for inflamed gums. My visit: Went in for a cleaning. Dentist came in and did x-rays, did an exam, and consult. They didnt tell me that I would need to have a new patient exam appointment before having the cleaning when I was expecting both at one time. The dentist suggested scaling. I declined. I called to schedule my appointment for cleaning a couple weeks later. The lady who runs the office got on the phone telling me that I NEED to do the scaling (costing around 800) before they will do the cleaning and would not do cleaning until then. I told the lady that they also suggested my husband get the scaling but he declined and they went ahead and did the cleaning. She claimed they did do the scaling, full mouth, and it was on his chart. My husband is in the medical field and has had a lot of dental work. He DID NOT have a scaling done because he didnt want to. The lady argued with him claiming he did and so I need it too. I have had periodontitis for a long time and have been given oral rinse to help. Anyways, they wouldnt do a regular cleaning and were trying to force me to pay out of my own pocket money that I didnt have for something I didnt necessarily NEED!
