I called Ann Arbor Dermatology on Oct 28th, and discussed with their front desk/scheduling dept that "Ive seen 2 dermatologists over the past 1.5 years, both diagnosing rosacea. At the 2nd dermatologist, i began laser treatment for my condition and i was looking to continue laser treatment with the "sciton laser" ( I had just moved back to ann arbor, where my husband and i own a home, hence my search for a new dermatology clinic). She replied, "Ok well first you would need a consultation." I say ok and we set up the appointment for Nov 22nd. Since i also work in a medical office, i know the procedure of usually needing an "office visit" before any treatment is received. Thats fine-- i understand. So i complete the next several forms of paperwork online as they request, and wait the 3.5 weeks for my appointment (the next possible time I could make it in). I get to my appt and the nurse or derm resident comes in.... asks me more about my condition--and i say the same thing to her as i did when scheduling the appt---diagnosed with rosacea, needing to continue laser treatment, sciton laser filter 560, as recommended by previous Dermatologist. I can get med records if needed. She writes things down. Then Dr. Kinsley eventually comes in and asks me again about my condition, sees the rosacea---this is all pretty standard until she says "Yeah, i think the vascular laser will work best for you. The problem is, we dont have one." (and she gives me this kind of "oops" face.) Im like, "what?" and she replies, "yeah i saw on your chart that you were requesting lasering for your rosacea, but we dont have a vascular laser here." She then proceeded to give me a referral for a clinic that has one. Im a bit annoyed at this point because i waited weeks to get in, and now my time has been wasted by them not even having the equipment i needed! The same equipment i talked to the front desk about when scheduling there! To make matters worse, i stop at the front desk on my way out to clarify no copay for today and say goodbye..... ......front desk wants to charge me the $40 copay. I ask her to clarify with the doc that i didnt receive anything I didnt already know before coming in: that i 1.) have rosacea and 2.) need a vascular laser, and that the front desk mistakenly scheduled me for services they couldnt ever eventually provide. She goes and clarifies with the Dr, and says i owe $40!! I say frustrated and firmly that "i disagree, but ill pay it." I call my husband right away because i just feel like ive been a victim of fraud. He calls to complain, and someone (i believe "Trisha") says hell have to be authorized to talk to them about my visit, and that shell check with me and call him back. I never got a call from Trisha and no one ever called Lucas back, but i did receive a call from "Kathy" who condescendingly said in this saved voicemail, "Anytime you receive advice or are pointed in the right direction, there will be a charge." I return her call and say, I understand what constitutes an office visit, i, too, work in a medical office. The problem is that i was misled in scheduling here, and now it feels like a money-grab since the office i called and explained my condition and needs to, never had the equipment to fulfill the request. She again reiterates, anytime you speak with the Dr about your condition, that is an office visit." I again try and enlighten her that i understand that. Then i ask, "So if i came to my appt today and knew coming in that i have rosacea and that i need a vascular laser, what did i actually receive from Dr. Kinsley today?" She replies that she doesnt know and disingenuously apologizes. We hang up, and the only thing left to do is to write this review and warn others..... Like, whatttt? I can understand having to accept the wasted time because they didnt do a good job from my 1st phone call to them in scheduling appropriately, but it made matters worse when they wouldnt take responsibility for their actions. Poor business etiquette. I hope that $40 was worth it to them.

I was initially seen by one of the PAs for what i thought were a couple of bug bites. I was given two days worth of gel to apply and told that it would take 10 days for them to heal. 10 days later, the areas were still inflamed and starting to scar(pock marks). This time another PA and the doctor intervened with more medications for another 10 days. When I took issue with the initial diagnosis, the doctor then stated that a differential diagnosis for the problem areas could have been Shingles. If this had been part of my first appointment, the area could have been checked and it could have been determined if the lesions were viral . And if so, anti viral medication is very effective in stopping the progression in early stages. This was disappointing to hear. I was then told to return in 10 months. So then I sought care with another dermatologist. She offered a differential diagnosis although by that time it was not possible to determine the exact cause. However, she suggested I consult with an esthetic dermatologist to discuss the possibility of treating the scarred areas with a laser as early as possible(after primary healing has occurred). The lack of thorough initial diagnosis possibilities and then the accusatory manner in which the primary doctor spoke to me was distressing. I have three holes in my cheek that were not there before and perhaps could have been avoided with early diagnosis and treatment. Even if that was not possible, being caring about the scar resolution possibilities would have been welcomed.

Unacceptable. I waited over 45 minutes for my new patient visit and was rushed through in less than five. The blonde woman who saw me, perhaps a physicians assistant, apologized for the wait, which I understand happens sometimes with over booking. She then went on to tell me we would probably be interrupted when they needed her with someone else. She then promptly diagnosed me without asking about my concerns or needs and prescribed name brand medications. Upon seeing that I was distressed she asked what was wrong and I said I was not going to be able to afford this line of treatment. She told me shed have the other girl give me some coupons and then left. The coupons leveled the prescriptions at about $100 a month. I was astounded. I have never seen a doctor, let alone a more expensive specialist, who has rushed me through so quickly, who hasnt asked about my prescription coverage or worked with me to find affordable options, who seemed to care about my care less. As I was leaving she pulled me aside in and started asking what was wrong. I had a difficult time explaining how frustrated I was, and then some woman stuck her head in the exam room and interrupted me. At this point she tried making small talk about my major and I decided to leave. I paid my $50 copay and left. Im appalled that my insurance will be billed for five minutes of the lowest level care Ive ever received and will not be returning.

I would NOT recommend this dermatologist!! I went because it sounded like they were experts in skin cancer and I wanted a full body mole exam. Instead I received a lecture on how to wear sun screen and a lesson on the A-B-C-Ds of moles which I already knew. The reason why I was there was because I knew my moles were growing and multiplying. I didnt feel like the doctor even looked at all of my moles, and she definitely did not make me feel comfortable with my question which was, "do any of them need to be removed or appear cancerous?" Instead, she said that they all look irregular and met 3 out of the 4 concerning items for moles and I should keep an eye on them. (Yes, I know which is why I was there in the first place). I dont think she wrote down any thing about the moles or measurements in case I did return to know if anything changed. It did not seem like she cared about the overall concern and numerous skin cancer cases that is becoming much more popular in young adults. I was extremely on happy with my visit and the price was INSANE for my quick, unhelpful, short time there.
