Worst hospital ive ever been to. Extremely dirty and the staff was rude. Went here when i had my son. Ended up needing a csection and the OR was full of residents. They literally argued over who was going to prep me while im sitting on the table panicking and in pain from my intense contractions, very obviously distressed. They argued like school kids over toys. I felt like an object, not human. The resident who drew my blood while i was on the table was rude and so rough to the point my arm turned black and blue from the draw. The anesthesiologist literally laughed at me because i was begging to be put to sleep. The surgeon stopped in the middle of cutting me open to argue with me that i wasnt in pain when i was. They almost made my husband miss my sons birth because they started without him in the room and forgot to bring him in until i kept asking where he was. Again i could hear residents fighting over me like a lab rat. I missed my son being born because i was finally put to sleep. No reassurance from anyone in their room. It was such a terrifying experience. After i woke up, and almost immediately, my son was thrown on top of me and we were rushed down the hall to a new room that was dirty and considerably smaller. The next day, two nurses came in and started pushing very hard on my stomach where i was just cut open. I was screaming for them to stop and my husband stepped in and yelled for them to stop. The nurses told him id die if they didnt do what they were doing and when i asked why the hell would i die they stopped and looked at eachother and left the room. When it came to being discharged we were handed the papers to sign and told wed be on our way. We were waiting for someone to birng in a wheelchair and after two hours no one came. My hus amd just went amd got one and we wheeled ourselves out. Not one nurse even noticed we were still there or leaving. So unprofessional and i DO NOT recommend coming here for anything.

Were to begin with our delivery experience. While the hospital touts how important and supportive it is of "rooming in" and "skin-to-skin", we experienced otherwise. They dont tell you during the birthing center tour/class that youll be doing neither if youre child isnt in absolutely perfect condition. Ours had low blood glucose (as in ONE NUMBER below their acceptable level) and he was taken away to the special care nursery where he had an i.v. ran into his head, forcing us to trek halfway across the hospital every single time he needed to feed. Not a good system for encouraging mother-baby bonding. For some odd reason, they can monitor and adult after a cesarean just fine within the room, but not a baby with low blood glucose. This is on top of a horrible experience in the delivery room prior to being moved to the operating room. Can you say SURPRISE URINARY CATHETER? Not cool. My wife nearly lept off of the bed! Then they stuck a monitor on my sons head in utero, not telling my wife that this would break her water. Again, not cool. And to top it off, an anesthesiologist came in and asked my wife, "Okay so you know youre getting a c-section, right?" just then the phone rang in her pocket. "I though I was supposed to be in THIS room!? No!? Sorry, my mistake...." and she took off. And they wondered why my wife had high blood pressure. It just seemed like information that would make the situation go smooth was in short supply for some reason. And the communication during the delivery process left a lot to be desired. The nursing staff was well trained and of the highest caliber in my opinion. However, the hospital administrators need a foot planted squarely in their rear. The short of it is, our delivery didnt need to be nearly as stressful as it was. And thats sad because with the quality of nursing staff working there, it could have been near perfect. Communication skills guys. Think about it.

Very busy ER. There was a breakdown somewhere in the system in regards to getting my Mom the medicine she needed for ongoing conditions (hypertension and thyroid). My Mom waited 7.5 hrs for a cot and nurses in Rapid Admissions were checking her every 10 minutes after her blood pressure spiked after she missed her 2nd high blood pressure pill. I dont know if the nurse in ER did anything about ordering her medicine before transferring my Mom to Rapid Admissions. I feel like the nurses in Rapid Admissions could have been helping the other patients more if the doctor or pharmacy got my Mom her regular medicine. Could this be done while a patient is waiting? It seems like it would be more efficient overall to get people their routine pills...especially for trip n fall patients. Who carries their Rx around with them? The social worker was really helpful and I feel like she took good care of transfering my Mom to a hospital that would admit her, since St Johns wouldnt. It is a big system and I think it needs someone to go in and figure out the inefficiencies and fix some things. I honestly didnt have much confidence until her primary care physician got involved. Oh and Ice Packs!!! Sheesh. Do they not own any? Basic first aid says to ice a wound for the 1st 3 days. Can a fall patient have an ice pack every so often while they wait? I asked 4 separate people for an ice pack between ER and Rapid Admissions and never got one in the 30 hours my Mom was there. It makes me upset. I will NOT go here for myself. I gave it a 3 because there are several good people there. Ones that do their job to a really high level...Vince and Peggy and Robert from PT and Russell from PT stand out. And her primary care too. I think there is room for improvement in the system.

I suffered a gunshot wound to my hand and drove myself to St John Hospital. The medical team in the ER were Great. They registered me quickly and got me into a room. My hand was in really bad shape. The doctor tried to stitch my hand but it was too bad, there was nothing to stitch. After about a hour, the doctor comes back and says that he was trying to reach the hand specialist, but was not able to reach the hand specialist. So, they wrapped my hand up with a bandage, gave me a prescription for Viocidin, and told me to come back Monday. That was earliest time the hand specialist was going to be back at the hospital. I was bleeding profusely. Blood was dripping on the floor and they told me to have a good night and discharged me. This all happened Wednesday night. I knew this could not be right. So, I went home tried to clean up my hand, but the pain was too intense. I jumped in my car and went downtown to the DMC (Detroit Medical center). The medical team at the DMC were shocked that I was sent home in the condition that I was in. They had cleaned up St. Johns mess. That had to remove half of the botched up stitches.I had to stay in the hospital (the DMC)for 4 days before they discharged me. The medical staff at the DMC told me that I could have went home, got an infection, and lost my hand. I will NEVER go to St. john hospital again. On top of all that still got stuck with a $600-650 bill for nothing...
