I put one star for professionalism and empathy of a doctor. Everything else was awful! I came with a chest pain, thought I am about to die. After few hours of moving from one room to another and having a blood draw, x-rays, etc., I ended up in the wilting-like room with uncomfortable chairs and many others like me. TV was very loud with some comedy going on and frequent commercials that I hate. I asked politely if I could sleep somewhere because Im exhausted and in pain, and would like to have some rest. This was rejected with a prompt to call the doctor, so she could talk to me. The doctor never came. After an hour of struggle, Ive asked if I could just go to my car and sleep there and come back at the time they like. This was rejected. I asked for the doctor and was told that she will come eventually. I asked for the bed or just for another room to sleep or stay to be away from that much light and a loud TV. I was told there is no other room for me. Just when I finally fell asleep on the chair, next to freezing cold brick wall, with noises and lights around, I was waken up for another blood draw! Then I saw that some people have blankets. Hmmm!?!?! I had to ask for one, and got it, wondering, why wasnt it prompted to me in the first place??? Even my light sleep was screwed at that point. Then the doctor came (finally!). She said, they are waiting for the results of the blood draw, and I need to wait a bit more. Ive waited and waited... My head was spinning, I had headache, and dizziness - all of that developed in that horrible transition. All of a sudden, man came to take my blood once again! I thought something is bad happening, and my blood results were not good, so they decided to double-check. No explanation was given, the blood was drawn right in the waiting room. (Only later on doctor, the only one who deserved my star, admitted that the first blood results were lost). So, I became to feel very uneasy. I came to ask about getting out of this room to anywhere! - car, next room, just outside... And all this was rejected. Ive been asked again to wait for another 30 min. I felt at the end of my rope, my chest pain got much worse, no rest, no comfort, no service, not even able to escape the room with so many irritating factors to me. So, I came and said that Im done, I am getting out and want that needle out of my arm (ah, yes, I had a needle stuck to my arm all this time). They took it out quickly, and I walked through to the checkout area. The checkout area was... EMPTY! I started asking who should I pay to? No one gave me an answer. Then the doctor came with an apology and asked the staff there to check me out. Then... well, I dont know how to describe that, the check out staff TOLD THE DOCTOR, that she should go back and have me sign the papers! At that point Dr said, no, Im not gonna have him sign anything. He wants to get out now. Ill print the paper for you and you take his payment. So, she walked away... And I was prompted... to be seated and WAIT. They had my data, my insurance, my EVERYTHING, and STILL ASKED ME TO WAIT! I sat down and waited another 5 min. The receptionists were free for the last two minutes and still didnt call me... Once more I came to THEM, and then, finally, had a pleasure of being able to pay them my co-pay and leave. I wonder now if this system supposed to just make my heart collapse, and its just expected, do you!?!?!?

We first got here my fiancé was in the bathroom puking and they had her triaged last... like more people would come and theyd put more people in front of her. Then we finally get back in a room and they dont come dont come, then a doctor comes. He says theyll send you right for a CT because he thinks it may be a possible appendicitis, but then the results will take awhile. Nobody came nobody came. Some PCT walked by with a student ems and said she doesnt have an IV started. Comes in doesnt ask anything just starts getting things ready for the student. Then this student pokes her and just the whole way she did it I was like thats wrong thats wrong (Im a medical assistant). The girl then says whats your name, why are you here, etc. like 1 you forgot to ask if it was okay that a student poked her, 2 you shouldve made sure you were poking the right person BEFORE you poke. 3 do you even know what vials you should be filling or are you taking this blood for sport? They leave, some lady walks by and says do you have an IV my fiancé said yes because she thought the lady meant a line started and the lady walks away. Then they move her out to the waiting room and said maybe you should give a urine sample... maybe? I said do you know when shell go back for CT? She said I have no idea. Then this girl comes and asks me to go back to CT with her, I said the patient is in the bathroom, she said oh whats her last name, I tell her. She says oh okay. Goes and gets another guy to go to CT because she couldnt wait for her to come out of the bathroom. Weve been here since 12:30p its now 4p and have NOTHING accomplished. CT result wait times are between 3-4 hours, if I thought they wouldnt charge us at this point we would go somewhere else. This hospital and these people are the biggest joke ever.

I was brought in by ambulance from an urgent care center, I went right into triage, asked a few questions, given an IV line (but no IV) and then wheeled back out into the first waiting area where they said ultrasound would come down to take me up for a test... and hour and a half later the pain had come back with a vengance, I check with someone who said I had 5 people in front of me (to see the PA?) another half hour later the pain was unbearable and others in the waiting area could see it, I went to ask a triage nurse, her reply was "have you been seen by triage yet?" I said yes, but; but was interupted by her saying "then you need to move over into the orange waiting area". As she called her next patient. So I walked myself and wheel chair over to the orange area... I then walked over to try and get another nurses attention... no luck as the door was closed before I got over therem turned around just in time to see another nurse (or someone) walking away with my wheel chair... by this time my wife had arrived, I went to the registration counter and asked them to get my IV line removed and inform them I was going elsewhere, they tried to stall and say I had just one more person in front of me (again to see a PA). At this time my wife overheard the lady next to her talking on the phone trying to get me back into their system because they had messed up my birthdate - so who knows if I was even in line at this point... we made the drive (still in horrible pain I might add) to Henry Ford West Bloomfield - I was taken in immediately, given pain medication to help make me comfortable, and in the morning had my inflamed gall blader removed. St Joes is off my list of places to go for good.
