When you are having an emergency where do you go? The ER is the answer, but I wouldn’t recommend this hospital to ANYONE who is in need of medical attention. I wanted to run out of there! The ER nurses at Providence hospital are negligent, uncaring and honestly a disgrace to the medical field. They have no patience and no bedside manners what so ever. My mother sat in an empty ER waiting room after already being admitted for 3 hours, with multiple symptoms that unknowingly could have been life threatening. Proper test were not run on her to ensure what they had “assumed” to be wrong with her was correct. I say that because hours later she has not gotten any better and is sitting in discomfort in a hospital bed with an IV drip that keeps beeping because it was not administered correctly. Any and every thing she asks for takes a minimum of an hour to receive. Yes, I understand that there are other patients in need of care as well, so if the problem is lack of staff, Providence Hospital in Southfield, MI should fix it. Honestly in my heart I feel that it’s not the lack of staff, it’s a lack of dedication and compassion that the ER nurses lack. Let me tell you why… We encountered two ER nurses the night my mother was admitted. They were the WORST and I mean worst- I wouldn’t wish these two on my enemy in need! I was most disappointed with the charge nurse. She argued with my mother and told her she had an IV drip… when she really didn’t…and after being told a numerous amount of times by my mother (the patient) that she only had a flush, the nurse got smart with her and tried to wave it off as semantics- when she herself had to go figure out the difference between an IV and a flush. Then when my ill mother said, “I thought when coming here I would receive better treatment than another hospital”, the nurse cut her off and said “well you’ll get a survey in the mail and you can feel free to fill it out”. That broke my heart because at that moment my ill mother wasn’t even in her room and was just starting her treatment with Providence. The nurse gave no thought to customer care, and she did not ensure that she was safe and in good hands-EVER. This added stress to her symptoms and did nothing but elevate her temperature. Now let’s talk about HIPPA…because that was also violated. When I called to check in on the patient before arriving, the charge nurse gave conformation that the patient was in the ER and disclosed medical information about the patient over the phone without even verifying who I was and checking with the patient herself first. This ER not only provides horrible patient care, it also has broken patient privacy laws. I hope Providence will see this and take action to improve their system of care.

Ive been a Private Caregiver for over two years now. I really love and care for all the patients I take care of. Recently I was hire to take care of a stroke patient for the past two months now. The patients been on bed rest till the patient was able to use their strength agin. The patient was doing well till they had another stroke "during the month of May". The patient was in Providence Hospital for at least a week. The patient return home with small bed sores. I didnt think nothing of it. So I treated the 80 year old patient bed sores. My patient had to go back in for a second evaluation, because when they treated my patient. They said they forgot to give the patient their secondary meds" for her seizures. Now my patient return home agin, but the seizures has stop. Once they gave us the meds they were suppose to give my patient in the first place. I let my patient rest the afternoon they were transfer back home. I get ready to bathe my patient in the morning I find a bed sore so big and infected. It look like my patient fell on a nail and never got it clean or treated. The smell of the wound was so excruciating. That I had to turn the AC on, "when my patient cant deal with the air, because of the meds the doctors prescribed my patient from Providence Hospital". Im leaving this to basically say they dont put the 100% care there suppose to give patients while their there. I wouldnt recommend anyone who has to deal with long-term care to deal with this hospital. If your dealing with the elderly dont deal with this hospital. I keep telling the people I work for to send her to the top location in Michigan, you can just google. But their set in there ways. But I hope next time something happens (I pray it dont). I hope theyll just get a second opinion from a different hospital. Because the mistreatment of meds and the care of the patients. in Providence Hospital is lacking there. I hope you guys really work on the care you give your patients. If youre just there for a check, then you guys dont need to be working in a hospital. Like some teachers dont need to be in a school...

Im on the fence about this place. I had my daughter here. Because this is a learning hospital, I had various students in and out during my stay here. After being induced twice and that not working, I had an emergency C-Section that I was not prepared for. The anesthesiologist messed up. He gave me an epidural that worked well, but just before the C-section he gave me a second dose while I was lying down. I should have been sitting up. I told him that my hands and arms were going numb and all he said was "that shouldnt be happening." Well they started the procedure and when I was supposed to only feel pressure, I could feel pain. I could literally feel the doctor opening me. The anesthesiologist knew he had messed up. They ended up giving me morphine which took me off into la la land and definitely helped with pain. After my daughter was born they put me on meds that did not help with the pain like it should have. I woke up on day 2 screaming in pain and they wanted to give me Tylenol, which does nothing for me. The only reason I can say that my stay was "okay" was because my daughter came out healthy and shes fine and were both alive, but I still have nightmares about my experience. The staff was mostly really nice, but some things there need to change.

Went to er with an asthma attack. They showed no sense of urgency. My sister kept asking for help. They said I had to wait until I was checked in. Then the lady finally to her to wheel me to the back and the nurse told her to take me back to the lobby because it wasnt my turn. I was gasping for air. The nurse was really rude which set my sister off because she was scared. I couldnt move, barely could speak. Security grabbed my sister and they tried to wheel me out. They get the one star only because another nurse came out and saw what bad shape I was in. They wouldnt let my sister back in. So I had to go to the back by myself. Once they got me to a room they took their time giving me oxygen and a breathing treatment. They wanted to go through mu entire medical history although I could barely speak. I have been there before a few years ago and the service was much better. But this was horrible. Hopefully I wont have any more emergencies because I wont be going there.
