This is a joint review for Promedicas Flower Hospital and eyecare facilities. From start to finish my experience with Promedica has been abysmal. I lost an eye ten years ago, and due to corneal erosion I had to have it removed this summer. As an educator working for Toledo Public I did not have a desire to go forward with a surgery during the school year. Promedica originally scheduled me for early June, and then when the surgeon went on maternity leave bumped me back six weeks to mid-July, pushing my recovery into my school year. When July came around I had a surgery scheduled for 7:30AM. I was told repeatedly that I would receive a phone call reminder. This reminder was not made. When I called later in the night the night before the surgery (around 9PM) to confirm everything was all set I was informed that my surgery had been pushed back to later in the morning. I would not have received this notice had I not made a call in light of their not reminding me as theyd planned. Following my surgery I was given contact numbers for my surgeon and for other eye doctors because my own surgeon was going on vacation for the week immediately following my surgery. I was informed that the numbers were for facilities that could contact her. I can understand the vacation. What I can not understand is the fact that the numbers I was given were a) not for facilities that could contact her, b) were for the facilities she traveled to that did not have ready contact information, and c) the number for "24 hour help" that they provided me took over an hour to return a call for an issue. The response to this issue, stating not to worry about my conformer being out for a few days resulted in worse inflammation because of exposure to wind/air outdoors, and led to a trip to Flowers ER which cost me a copay I had not anticipated. Throughout the process I made inquiries with the people I was working with repeatedly concerning costs. Inquiries were made about costs of surgery, costs of the artificial eye, costs of recovery. Every step of the way I was told "insurance will cover it, youre fine." I work on a very limited budget as a teacher in Toledo, we are not paid enough to take the hit of a heavy medical bill. I was informed this past week, after my artificial eye had been almost completed that I was in need of an out of provider waiver for the eye, and would need to pay over $900 for it. This after multiple assurances throughout the process in response to my every inquiry to surgeons, doctors, eye care professionals that "insurance will cover it." Is it Promedicas fault that the ocularist is not in my system? No. But should the eye care professionals have had some foresight, some ability to inform me that it is possible Id be paying a significant chunk of money like that? Of course they should. I was left with nothing saved up but enough for incidentals related to the surgery and expected copays that wound up being nowhere near enough. Through all of this - I received phone calls asking me to leave feedback for their facilities from an automated service that disconnected me before I could leave feedback each time that I attempted it (three times total). Attempting to relate any of this through the channel Promedica created for this purpose were futile. What Ive been left with by Promedica are costs I was assured I would not incur, and an experience I would hope I never have to replicate on any level. To be frank I am contemplating looking at legal action, but am hopeful it can be resolved some other way. Regardless of that: Promedica deserves nothing better than one star for this experience.

Family Physicians hours start at 8am Monday through Friday. Its 8:10am and its being forwarded to a voicemail thats not setup, then hanging up on me? How about stop being lazy and answer the phone at the specified time of operations, instead of phones beginning operating at 8:30? All ProMedica does is spend money on buying buildings, God forbid they they use money towards more doctors to have less wait times or in this case employees to actually answer the phone, I mean you really cant answer a phone to schedule or at the very least keep people informed. People need to wake up and demand universal health care, that will weed out the incompetent ones that are only there for the paycheck. Keep buying buildings and property for new construction ProMedica, when I cant even schedule appointment or try to be seen ASAP. That goes for the new urgent care to open that up at 7:30 and not 10 a.m., you obviously have the money so pay the people to be there. Half the time you enter these facilities you sit there for hours on end for them to push you out the door with nothing more than a paper identification bracelet. Youll be throwing up sick, in horrible pain and here comes the employee with the portable computer station to make sure Promedica gets your health insurance information.

Usually I have good care, I really like Dr. Johnson (male,) however the female that I had today was not so great. I had a reaction to metoprolol (first time taking it,) and the Dr told me "Just stop taking it... its not like you "have to" take it." She obviously doesnt know anything about POTS/ dysautonomia, though I tried to explain it to her. I also did not appreciate that she wrote "Cherry Street" as the name of the Cardiologist that I should see, on my discharge papers. I previously saw the cardiologist Dr Kanaan in Sylvania.. Thank you very much. The workers at Flower are sometimes super Ghetto. I just dont understand the Toledo mentality at all. Go back to school, or dont be a Doctor. Also... please send your patients to reputable locations for specialists. I did not appreciate being treated as a second class citizen. Promedica has got to change. Recently when I was in Boston (at Harvard Medical School) I received very careful, very caring, and very competent care. Honestly, I just expect MORE. I have not paid a 10,000.00 deductible on my insurance since January, for the hell of it.

When I first arrived everything was good. Apparently this hospital is not equipped for trauma because when they received one all other patients were ignored. A nurse practitioner informed me that I had two kidney stones, which explains the excruciating pain I am feeling. She ordered me more pain meds which never came. Finally after four and a half hours the arrogant ER Doctor came in, which apparently was an inconvenience to him, and told me nothing was wrong with me. When I asked why could I be in so much pain he basically explained they are there to check the big things, and since they didnt find anything, oh well. So I walked out feeling as lousy as I did walking in, with no answers from the so called professionals. Oh, and the one person who did manage to come back in? The girl wanting to collect my co-pay. So here I sit in pain, another sleepless night, with no answers but I am sure my bill we be here by the end of the week. Do not go to a promedica facility if you can help it!

Came in because I had leg pain and thought it might be a blood clot. Being a mother of 3 I couldnt find the time to go during the day so I went late at night when husband was home and kids were in bed. The Physician in the ER was beyond rude. Insinuating that I must have came in late to get drugs! DRUGS!? Are you kidding me?! She said "There is NO ultra sound tech this late!" As if I would know the ins and outs of how they would check the problem with my leg! I said I knew of hospitals that did have 24 hour techs and she called me a liar. Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton I know has techs around the clock. I had just moved from there. It was my first time going to this hospital and the last. I was asked where I would want to have my newest baby at and all I could think is ANYWHERE but Flower Hospital! Just because I am a tired Mom who comes in late, looking like crap... does not make me a druggy. Give me a break! I didnt even want or ask for the pain meds anyways!
