I went to the Northland OB/GYN because I planned to deliver at Liberty Hospital. First, no one told us when arrived that as self-pay patients, we would have to pay $1,100 up front when we arrived. Thankfully, someone allowed to us to pay "just" $500 the first time if we promised to pay the rest next time. The nurse who did the sonogram was nice, but everything went down hill from there. I didnt even meet a doctor, I met a nurse practitioner (probably the same as phronienkc). She was very vague about everything and kept asking if we had questions. This is our first kid so I wasnt sure what to even ask! She was about to send us out the door after a ridiculously brief 15 minute session when I thought to ask about my options for labor and delivery. I told her I was interested in some more natural options for labor to which she immediately responded, "Well what do you mean by natural?" Her tone was impatient, condescending and judgmental. When I expressed interest in water birth, walking exercises, stools, etc. she said that I might be able to move around if the doctor okayed it but no water birth at all. And I had to have constant prenatal monitoring, an iv drip (even if I didnt want meds) and no food or drink at all. She was completely unwilling to hear what was important to me and offered no suggestions, compromises, or anything else. I left feeling very ill at ease. We have since canceled all our appointments there and are now going to the New Birth Company in Overland Park, KS. The experience has already been so much better. If you want to be told exactly what to do and treated like an ignorant person who knows nothing about her own body, then by all means go ahead and go to these doctors, but if you want to learn about the process, your own body and the options available to you, I would recommend two things. First, watch "The Business of Being Born." Second, explore other options, whether it be another hospital or a birthing center. Midwives are an excellent and very safe option for low-risk pregnancies. I will NEVER go to this office again and I will be sharing my opinion freely with others to prevent them from having the same horrible experience during what should be a joyous time.

This hospital, if based on my first visit, is one I would never recommend unless you have nothing better to do than wait and get lost. Once I made it to the right place to see Dr. Hickman-Cargill of the Northland Obstetrics, I found out I was early by 20 minutes; my appointment was at 2:30pm. I asked if I had time to get my car parked in front of the right building and the receptionist told me I was the only person on Dr. Cargills list that day so I should wait. I was called in at 2:50. I sat in my gown until 3:40 and started to wonder if they forgot me. I was in there for over an hour and not one person came to tell me the doctor was running behind schedule. I decided not to wait anymore and got dressed. I headed out of my room, walked into dead halls and passed the receptionist desk, where they all looked at me like I wasnt supposed to leave. Im sure they have people waiting like that but not me. I told them, "I cant wait anymore." I will never go back there, am glad I left, and advise all of you to reconsider a visit to this office if you can. One woman, the hostess if you will, apologized but what does that do? Its the principal of it all. If they dont want to see me, I dont want to be there. Ill gladly take my business elsewhere. If Im the only person on the doctors list for the day then that really says a lot about what a blessing it is I left.

I think some people get confused on having to see "too many doctors" & from the LIBERTY HOSPITAL BIRTHING CENTER. I was told when I made my very first appt. that I would first see a nurse practitioner & then I would see EVERY physician they have in their office. Different physicians are on call at the time you could deliver & thats why they like you to at least meet all of the physicians, which I personally loved. As far as the wait times I never tried to complain about waiting, there could be someone who the physician needed to spend a little extra time with, & if I needed extra time I know all of these physicians wouldve given that time to me. Not everyone in the office is there for pregnancy. Also, I know Northland OBGYN is their own private office even though they are located in the hospital. The billing for my hospital stay was separate from my actual office/prenatal care, which I was told at my first appt as well. So the negative reviews on the actual nursing & hospital staff when you deliver should be left on Liberty Hospitals website. I love the office & will always continue to go there!

I am currently a patient there. Hopefully not for long. Im 15 weeks pregnant and have had nothing but negative experience so far. As said by many, you get passed around from dr. To nurse practitioner every time. They keep horrible records, so nobody knows your story from one time to the next. I received a phone call from a third party company today who asked why we terminated our treatment plan, one we never gave consent or even hinted we wanted to to proceed with... Hell, nobody even asked The question if we wanted this treatment! The other day, went to make an appt 1 week after being seen. Im only available on certain days so it was going to have to be a couple days outside the 1 week margin. The appt lady told me that I had to go back and figure it out with a nurse because she wasnt making the appt due to my unavailability. I did read these reviews before proceeding with these people... Thought maybe, it was just a few people having a bad day? Uh, No! Should have heeded their advice...now I gotta figure out how to get my money back, since we paid for everything upfront....sigh..

I looove this group of drs! I have had all 3 of my children here and now that Im expecting my 4th, there was no question to where I would go. Every experience has been wonderful. I will say with my first baby i scheduled all my appts with the same dr which they allowed me to do so I could form a relationship and feel comfortable come time to give birth. I now understand why they reccommend seeing all drs because you never know who will be on call the day you go into labor. Every dr that is in the office Ive seen multiple times and couldnt be more pleased with the care they give. I often have appts with the nurse practitioners as well and have had very good experiences. Anytime I have a medical question I have always heard back in a timely matter. When its time for baby to arrive hands down liberty is the best! Every nurse and dr has been amazing and I cant say thank you enough for giving me such amazing experiences at the most precious times in my life.
