THE LORD WORKS IN MYSTERIOUS WAYS! My little Shih Tzu, Paris, was the absolute light of my life. She was everything to me...she gave me a reason to get up in the morning and get on with my day. Paris chose to live with me when she was 8 weeks old and she took her last breath with me on September 1, 2011 when she was 15 1/2 years old. My life will never be the same without her! During her lifetime, Paris had lots of health issues...mostly with her stomach. She was on a prescription diet all of her life and could not enjoy "treats" or other "cookies" like most dogs. She also spent lots of time at the Vets office, and since we moved to Las Vegas 10 years ago, the Vet was at Durango Animal Hospital. Paris was 5 years old when we moved to Las Vegas, and as she always did, she took it all in stride...new home, new vet...she didnt care. She was up for it all, a new adventure! This is where the Lord intervened. Paris had been going to Durango Animal Hospital for several years before Dr. Christensen came to practice there. Dr. C (as he is known to his patients) is a loving, Christian man with a gentle spirit and kind heart who shows love to the animals he treats. Dr. C is a GREAT vet, and he became our regular Vet almost immediately after coming to Durango Animal Hospital. While Dr. C is too professional to ever say an unkind thing about anyone, he could tell you that I was not a patient person when it came to Paris. I could be a fierce "mama bear" when she was sick. Dr. Christensen was always patient and kind to me even if I was a wreck with worry. Dr. Christensen saved my little Paris more times than I could ever recount. He always took immediate, decisive action to diagnose and treat her quickly. Paris loved Dr. C and he showed her love in return. It meant all the difference. When the time came that Paris could not be saved (she was just too old and not strong enough for another battle), when it was time to say good-bye, it was Dr. Christensen who got me through that difficult day. I will always be grateful to him for his gentle spirit and quiet strength when he reminded me what I already knew in my heart. "Shes with God now." Yes, the Lord works in mysterious ways and, all those many years ago, He knew I would need Dr. Christensen on September 1, 2011 to help me say goodbye. Paris always knew. RIP my angel. Also, thanks to Dr. B (another kind and caring vet) who filled in when Dr. Christensen was not there...and the wonderful staff (front and back) who shed tears with me on that day I said goodbye to little Paris...and to Brandon who has listened when I needed a friend to talk to!

My dog is 15 years old, has heart and organ issues and cant wait around for medications while the office administrator is busy finger pointing at everyone else but themselves and cant utter an apology that this has happened AGAIN lets get these meds filled ASAP. Just infuriating that my baby will suffer because of their lack of incompetency! Once upon a time, Durango Animal Hospital used to be a great clinic, now it must be common practice to just make excuses and blame others, argue and not apologize or try to rectify the situation right away because the only vet my dog has ever seen there is now on vacation (he wasnt on vacation on the date I called - that took 3 minutes to pull that out of the office administrator), OH and hes moving out of state. The office administrator is completely rude, wont let you get a word in edge wise and then gets offended when I ask her if she could shut up for one minute and let me speak, seriously? How could she hear my questions when she continues to speak over you and then talks in circles and tries to tell me what the law is regarding filling medications? How is it ok to have no accountability for not once but TWICE not filling my dogs medications and then to blame first the computer system, then I think she was trying to blame the doctor and finally it was the pharmacys fault, well which one is it? She was adamant about one thing it certainly wasnt the girl that answered the phones fault, because of course that would reflect on the office administrator, now wouldnt it? Hmm, then where was the disconnect yet again? Im not sure if she was trying to impress me or if this was part of the excuses - "well we have over 200 dogs here"! So I guess that means your staff is overwhelmed and cant be bothered with ensuring my dog gets his heart medication? Well thank you very much you have sealed the deal and my ONE dog will go to a different vet that will treat him with the personal attention he deserves in the remaining years he has. So now youll 199 to deal with, hope that helps lessen the workload, because with an attitude like that Im sure the numbers will continue to drop. With that being said if you want cheap vet care and dont mind being just a number this is the place for you, if you want compassion and accountability go elsewhere like I will be.

I first came to Durango Animal Hospita in October 2014 for my lil Bengal girl. She had what looked to be an abscess on her face and was in an extreme amount of pain. They pulled some infected teeth, gave her some antibiotics and told us she would be fine. 30 days later (November 2014), we were back in their office for the exact same abscess! They put a small drainage hole in the side of her face, took a sample of the infection to be analyzed to supposedly find the exact antibiotic to use, and sent her home. A couple days later, we were in their office AGAIN. This time with our other Bengal. For the same swollen abscess! The Doctor assumed that the two had gotten in a fight so again a drain was put in place, antibiotics were given (before the analysis from the sample was received), pain meds were dispensed and she was sent home. We had to make a payment arrangement as we had already paid close to $1000 in 30 days for this same problem. Guess what? 30 days later (December 2014) it appeared for a third time. Called Durango Animal Hospital and know what they told us? Because we have an outstanding balance they refused to treat her again. How can they do that?! They have now been paid close to $1200 for two cats, for the same infection, and they are still sick!!! They told my husband to put a warm compress on her face to draw out the infection (the drainage hole they had placed in her face hadnt even finished healing yet so the infection burst through). Today I used a warm compress on her face and this time a huge chunk of skin came off her face! It literally looks as though this infection is eating her skin away. My other Bengal also looks as though the infection is coming back and her face is swelling up. I cannot help but feel that had they waited for the results of the testing they did on the infection coming from her face and given her the correct antibiotic that we wouldnt be going through this AGAIN and my cat wouldnt be suffering like this. I will be making them an appointment with another vet as it is perfectly clear that Durango Animal Hospital is more interested in making money off their patients with repeat visits for the same problem than they are with actually helping an obviously sick animal.
