We took our $3000.00 Rotti here for shots and board while we flew to Colorado to bury my brother in law who was killed in a tragic car accident and while we were helping my elderly father in law deal with the entire situation. After about 7 days we went to pick him up and were met with a $477.00 bill instead of the approximate $300.00 we were originally expecting. The bill was fixed and brought down to $360.00 dollars, but that was really unethical for them to try to slam us with that after previous conversations about cost specifically. When we got our puppy home we noticed immediately he was sick with either kennel cough or the dog flu. In a short 5 to 6 days he was in obvious distress and literally dying. We took him back in on emergency in the evening. At first we were met with a disbelief and attitude from the doctor as to why we thought he should be there on emergency that evening instead of waiting until morning. I told them I was no vet but I know my dog and hes dying and I know if we had waited until morning he wouldve been dead. After about 40 minutes in the waiting room finally the doctor came in with a completely different attitude and told us he was close to being septic and showed us an xray of his lungs nearly full of pneumonia. At this point we spoke specifically about treatment options and costs. $2000.00 later we are told he is still sick and he has a possibility of scare tissue and may not ever recover fully from this illness. After having just paid for my brothers funeral and now taking on the care of my father in law, the on going medical care was going to continue to be costly with no guarantee he would even pull through and have a good quality of life, so we had to choose to put him down. We specifically asked and told them we needed to know at what point to stop treatment before the bill was to high due to the circumstances and was still met with this $2000.00 bill and a grim out look for his healthy future and a good quality of life for him. After two days of tears and painful decisions I sought counsel on the matter. My dog was completely healthy before coming to this place. He contracted something while in their care that lead to his immediate demise. This vet is completely responsible for the illness of our dog and therefore should be completely responsible for all costs incurred at minimum. This vet should be taking full responsibility for this situation and should be apologetic for all the emotional distress they have put us through and are putting us through. Not only did they take away our prize puppy, but they took away a loved member of our family. They destroyed our ability to send him to school, breed him, show him and properly care for him so that we could all have a healthy beneficial future together AND they want to charge me for that. Now Im faced with having to tell my children hes not coming home. I absolutely do not recommend this place. (This review has been summed up to meet the length requirement of reviews)

I have been to at least 4 vets in the year and a half that I have been in the Las Vegas Area. I became really disillusioned, and almost desperate. The vets seemed indifferent. This animal hospital opened on January 25, 2008. I happened to call them the next week because I was looking for a place so that my dogs (two) could get their shots. Dr. Lewis was very pleasant and even noticed that my boy dog had a rash. He set up a follow-up appointment. Also,my boy dog has a heart murmur. All the other vets told me that they couldnt do anything until he had shortness of breath, or other severe symptoms. Dr. Lewis referred me to the Las Vegas Veterinary referral service. My dog saw a vet internist (cardiologist). He is now on medication (beta blockers and blood pressure). The specialist told me that my dogs blood pressure needed to be regulated and that he could have had a major heart attack! Additionally, my girl dog had necessary surgery with Dr. Lewis. She came out really well without the complications that the other vets predicted. I have found everyone at this hospital pleasant, patient, and highly competent. Everyone is helpful and takes the necessary time to answer your questions. I feel that they really care whether your family friend is healthy and happy. The vets are on 24-hour call. I have to admit that I have had little dealings with the new vet, but I cannot imagine that his attitude would be different because I dont think that he would be there. Dr. Lewis is very patient with my dogs - especially my boy dog who just loves to lick the doctor in the face. In fact, my mother has a dog that does not take to vets. Dr. Lewis is the only vet who is willing to deal with the dog, even if he has to sedate the dog. This is truly a professional organization. Also, this hospital boards dogs and cats. I left my dogs there for two nights. They were not as wild as in other places, and Camilla (head of boarding) said that she tries to treat the dogs like they are her own. Even the receptionists are pleasant all the time. I have been going there for almost a year (a lot!) and have not had any major issues. Everyone is always the same. Granted, sometimes you have to wait (if you dont have an appointment), but Dr. Lewis always takes his time. Outstanding service!! HIghly recommended animal hospital!!!!

Super disappointed!! I took my dog in when his ear got cut open. The last time I used them I got care credit through them and they had a sign posted but never informed me that they no longer take it, they tried to tell me my dog needed a $900 surgery and said that stitches would not work. I asked the front desk how much it would cost just for the visit and the medicine and they told me $100 which Was ok ! Then I told them I wanted a second opinion they brought my dog out with a cone and a wrap around his ear where his breathing was struggling! (it was way too tight around his neck.) I asked them why they put the cone on him he cant reach his ear and why the wrap they said that he will need the cone for surgery they did not bother to ask if I already had a cone ( which I did), and I did not approve the surgery I immediately took off the wrap and the cone then they proceeded to charge me an extra $60 I asked why The extra $60 charge they told me it was for the cone and the wrap.. I asked if they ever cleaned out his ear before they wrapped it and they never cleaned the ear out because they did not want to have it wet! Well if thats the case why did they wrap it that keeps the ear moist? So my bill went from $100 to 160 after I mentioned the second opinion! That same day I took my dog to a different vet which was my foster dogs vet he said he would have stitched it said the ear looks OK to let it heal on its own , within four days the ear healed beautiful... Im very disappointed in Montecito Animal Hospital I used to love them my dog had surgery there did a great job in the past .. They put my cat down there did a wonderful job but every time I go in there its a new doctor now. My new vet requested my dogs paperwork and it took them twice to call still never got it so they had asked me to call them to finally get it Now instead of driving two minutes to my vet I drive 40 minutes but I would much rather drive 40 minutes and gets good service and not feel like Im getting ripped off!
