My daughters cat was attacked on a Saturday afternoon right after our vet closed. We live in Minden and the voicemail at our vets office recommended we go to the AEC. I called them first and they were lovely on the phone. They got us right in and did a great job on our cat. I agreed with their determination that he needed immediate surgery. They gave me a quote with a range of pricing, the lowest being if they were able to do the repairs with injectable anesthesia and the highest if they needed to give him general (gas) anesthesia. His final bill came in slightly higher than the low estimate (which was still a ton of money, but not significantly more than my regular vet would have been). The next morning I picked him up and received his discharge instructions. It is a little crazy at that time since everyone is there picking up their animals from the night before. It is a bit like being discharged from the people emergency room, a bag of meds, paperwork, etc. Make sure you get all your questions answerered and you may want to take notes. Also, since they are like the ICU for people, your animal may still need some nursing care when they are discharged from AEC. For example, our cat came home with a drain and multiple meds which I wasnt quite sure I could handle since the rest of the family was out of town, but it ended up OK. I think in some cases, pets might need to go to their regular vet for a day or so until they are completely ready to come home, depending on your level of comfort and the demeanor of your pet. Our cat needed to have his drain removed in a few days and then his stitches in two weeks. AEC will do these removals for you without charge, however, you will wait for a free moment if they are handling other emergencies (which they almost always are). One client there when I was there for our emergency waited 2 hours to get stitches out. My regular vet charges $60 to do the removals, but there is no wait or drive to Reno. You have to decide which you have more of time or money when it comes to the aftercare. Regardless, we have had pets (small animals up to horses) forever and I havent had a better experience with middle of the night or holiday emergency care ever.

Buyer beware! $ Scam! I took my cat here in an emergency and, though they came across "nice" in some ways, the charges were unbelievable. They clearly take advantage of the situation... not to mention that most everything they told me was wrong. Yes, you read that right. Overall, my cat was getting worse, thanks to their orders. I decided to do my own research and stopped listening to their advice. As soon as I did, my cat got better and thank God is doing well now! =) Later, talking to my hairdresser about my experience, she said, "You didnt go to that place on...?" and mentioned this very place. She went on to tell me a horrific experience she had there as well (with her dog) and she called them "scammers." My mother told me to file some sort of charge against them. I do not plan on going back there that is for sure. If you want to pay hundreds or thousands of dollars for treatment that could cost much less; and, if you want to be given very bad advice that could cause your pet to be in more pain or die: use this place. My cat is alive today because I stopped listening to these so called vets and used my brain instead. It is truly sad when you are a better vet than the real vets. To the vets: please open your eyes, minds and hearts ...rather than just taking hard earned money from people because you can. Go back to school if you need to do so. If you dont want to return to school, at least do your ethical duty and consider all case factors. Speaking of school, dont try to pay all your student loans back at once!! Stop taking advantage of people with your outrageous charges!! Dont be so selfish and ignorant. Penny wise and pound foolish. What else can I say? Good luck and Bless you. At the same time --- buyer beware!! (Too bad the reviewer from Oct 11, 2010 marked 5 stars when it appears she meant to mark 1). I totally agree with Sandra Lopez!! Unfortunately, I put my bill (thousands of dollars) on a credit card. However, what comes around goes around. Im just glad my kitty made it!!

I brought my Labrador to the AEC after he got very very sick. They were there throughout the whole ordeal, calling me with updates and checking on him every time I called. When I checked him out on Easter Sunday to bring him to his regular veterinarian, I got turned away by a veterinarian at Klaich Animal Hospital so I had to bring him back (see Klaich review), they took him right back in and cared for the poor guy. They called me every two hours for updates, up until they discovered what was wrong. They were understanding when I had to put him to sleep and gave me all the time I needed with him. The only complaint I have is that theyre very expensive, and after just letting my very best friend put to sleep they had the nerve to ask if I wanted to let them study his remains and open him up. It touched a very very sensitive nerve when they did that but... Three days later my dachshund had given birth prematurely and we had to bring her back, they were very professional and got her safely back to me. When I brought my dachshund for her post partum checkup to another vet, she was given a sedative accidentally so I had to bring her back to AEC again. They hand-fed her weak little puppies and kept an eye on her all night, called with updates and she came home with all of her puppies safe and sound back to me. I am very impressed with their service and professionalism. I am glad we have this facility in Reno and it is great to know there is excellent care available when the regular vets cannot care for my pets.

My Pomeranian had went into labor for her first time.. And had problems while delivering she couldnt pass them or dilate.. I live two hours away but my vet wouldnt take my calls she was ill.. So at 1 am I finally get her here hoping for a shot to help her and was told that the shot wouldnt help that there was no way she was going to deliver them on her own.. I was quoted $1800-$2400 which had to be paid before they would touch her.. No body has that kind of extra cash.. I always thought that in emergencies they acted and then billed later.. Or at least part up front well work on the rest... Whatever it takes to save a life. Yea right.. Well after trying to think of every possibility I could to come up with the money they said the other option they so gladly offered was TO KILL MY DOG AND PUPPIES!!! I never in my life have ever felt so sick and horrible.. I wonder how long it takes a person vet a Dr. who supposedly wants to help animals to be able to look someone in the eye and tell them that. After I panicked and called my employer who so kindly agreed to help and gave over her card information... They finally took her into surgery. But not before they put there (deposit) on the card.. Most unethical situation I have ever been involved in after her and puppies were brought out safely I couldnt even enjoy this amazing experience until I left that evil place.. I guess in the end like always.. Its about the money... So dont bring your pet without your card or else you can kiss your baby good bye :(
