Let me start off with posing this question, if youre able to speak rudely and disrespectfully to a customer because youre having a bad day, what makes you think they will treat a defenseless animal with respect and dignity? I came across this vet with mixed online reviews regarding the treatments he provides, condition of the clinic and the way he presents himself. I gave that the benefit of the doubt since the price is low($54) and it seemed like this vet truly cares for animals. My geriatric diabetic cat has been having constipation issues and noticed his stool was bloody. Out of concern and urgency to get this resolved, the Lyndhurst Animal Hospital surprisingly had a same day appointment available in the evening. A few observations, I showed up 10 minutes before my appointment as a new client and realized making one was pointless. This is a walk-in clinic, first come, first serve basis. I waited approximately 2 hours to be attended by the vet. The place is cramped, does smells like urine but looks like they make an effort to tidy up the place. The vet presents himself very messy and disorganized but the repeat clients that were there spoke highly of his skills and care for pets. As it turns out, he actually lives in the house located in the back hence the reason he works long hours. After waiting 2 hours and finally see the vet, I tell him the issue and need to do blood work on my kitty to see how his sugar levels are doing. My cat was anxious and wouldnt let anyone touch him including myself, the vet prescribed a tranquilizer pill to calm him down the next day. He said to me "Come tomorrow and you dont have to wait". I thought to myself "cool, I dont need to wait another 2 hours". The following day, I show up around the same time with a clinic packed as the day prior. Im thinking to myself "Whewsh, thank goodness I dont need to wait". The secretary/vets assistant was busy handling the phone and Dr.Mecheal came out demanding her to do a task. I make eye contact with him, asserted recognition and asked if I needed to wait. He said one moment and told the secretary to clean up a room. Five minutes later after running around, he calls for the next customer (which I assumed it would be me) but it was someone else. Again, I politely approach him and asked "Do I need to wait?" He became irritated, snapped and in front of all the customers said "I dont need your business, take it elsewhere". I was incensed! I approached him and asked "Was I disrespectful or rude to you to deserve such a response?" Looked around the room for confirmation but people were too scared to step up since they needed their animals tended to and didnt want to get kicked out either. He was a bit taken aback because he assumed I didnt speak English and attempted to tone down and turn it on me! I told him hes old enough to be my father and found his behavior to be that of a 15 year old. Not one moment in this heated bickering did I curse at him even though he very well deserved it. Be warned, Dr. Mecheal is not a MAN of his word and has an extremely low standard in professionalism. The Lyndhurst Animal Hospital is run very poorly and shouldnt be in business. Do not trust your beloved animal with this man for he himself has proven to be irrational and will make dangerous decisions that will lead to fatalities of beloved pets(the various reviews have claimed as such).

I am so sorry to say this but....I used to go to Dr. Mechale. USED to....It always smells in there..like urine. He is always over over booked. Even for surgeries. Maximum surgeries are supposed to be 5-6. I understand he is also an emergency hospital, but when you have an emergency come in, like this puppy (5months old) that couldnt breathe all the doctor did was put him in a cage in the back. Did absolutely nothing untill I, who worked there for 1 week, told him hours later "arent you going to do something?" he replied "I am the doctor, dont tell me what to do....I know what I am doing". Well, if he did he wouldve helped that poor puppy ASAP. Another time, 1 week before that, another dog came in, poodle, couldnt breathe, puffing like the other pup, that dog sat in the waiting room for over 1 hour! He is the only vet there. Workers come & go all the time. He is nasty to his employees. Yells at them in front of clients. A client confronted him about it once & told the doctor to not yell to bring the employee in another room & talk, not yell. The doctor yelled back at him & told the client to mind his business. I know he is a "cheap" doctor, but is it worth it? You dont know what goes beyond the waiting room. I do. I mentioned a few. Ok, a few more.....he keeps dead euthenized animals in a bag in the basement, on the floor or a box. On a box is where I found a dead kitty over 1 week! Not in the freezer where it belonged. He leaves under anesthesia cats or dogs, & tends to something else..like another patient in the room. I saw a female when I was there, under anesthesia, strapped like a tortured thing, on her back, arms wide open & tied to table, the same with her legs....Then I helped him with neutering one day & the cat, I sware was coming out of anesthesia, cause every time the doctor pulled whatever is needed to pull out of the scrotum, the cat was flinching.....One morning when I got in, came in early, I went to the back to walk the dogs, clean litter boxes, give fresh food & water, & it got so busy, (I was alone) that I coulndt do any of those things until about 2pm that afternoon....When the phone rings, no matter what you are doing, you better RUN to get the phone...DO NOT let it ring more than 2 times... What do you think? I quit after 1 week...I cannot work for someone who calls himself a vet, who is supposed to help animals. He is good with most of them but these things really bothered me as an avid animal lover, I couldnt bear watching this or to be involved.

The bad reviews here simply sound nuts to me. Yes, Dr. Mechael is a little gruff in his demeanor, but if you have just an ounce of patience, youll see what an amazing vet he really is. When my sweet cat Hope became deathly ill and needed exploratory surgery, Oradell Animal Hospital wanted about $4,000, while Dr. Mechael did it for $1,500. And to be honest, any other vet probably wouldnt have even done the surgery once they opened her up, as she was absolutely filled with benign tumors. When Dr. Mechael ran out of blood (as Hopes surgery went on so long), the receptionist went home to get her cat, who actually donated blood to my baby! Dr. Mechael let me visit Hope every single day during her five-day recovery (included in the fee) and tend to her in her cage, even on Christmas Day, and he always very sweetly called her "the baby." When she recovered, he said that she had actually died twice on the table, but said he didnt tell me that at first as he knew I would cry. Look, this is a guy who will do a house call for your pet at 3 a.m. if its too sick to get to the hospital. Is his place less than sanitary? Yes (but no so much that the animals are in danger). Does he wear a lab coat? No. Does he have animal stains all over his shirt? Yes. But does he work himself to the bone on behalf of all animals? Absolutely. My recommendation if you decide to go there is to be there when the place opens, otherwise youll wait for two or three hours. Why? Because hes POPULAR. And those of us who get him, love him. Oh, and after Hopes surgery, he saved her tumors in a bag for me to see, just to show how sick she really was. "The baby" lived another three years thanks to Dr. Mechael, and when she got sick again, he was honest with me that it was time to let her go. I really do love the guy. I get a kick out of him, and I admire him tremendously.
