From vaccinations to surgeries, dogs and cats to exotic pets, we have spent a lot of time over the years at Underwood Animal Hospial. We have worked with all of the Doctors on a regular basis through things such as a life-saving surgery on ferret, a not so common hernia surgery, CPR for a dying iguana (yes you read that right), treating a cold in a snake, working with multiple family members dogs who had cancer and then eventually amputating the leg of my own dog to rid him of cancer. They are currently treating my 13 year old boxer for multiple issues that she has developed for being lucky enough to be so old. From spending so much time there Ive witness a lot and Ive noticed that usually when there is an angry customer it is based on emotions of frustration. Somethings in life things dobcost more money then we were prepared to spend in that moment and Underwoods like pretty much all Vets doesnt take payments BUT if you just ask for an estimate they will work out a plan on what is most needed and you start with that, then you come back and get the next thing and so on which basically works out to be a payment plan. They never judged me for not having the money to take care of everything at once. Asking questions really makes a world of difference too. I use to think they just wanted me to spend more money by making me get a yearly heartworm test when my dog had been on the pill all year, turns out there is a small chance they can still get it and if they do its different medication and/or dose to cure it. Its true, I googled it lol. If I dont understand something, I just ask and they are more then willing to explain. I didnt know the heartworm test actually test for other things too, not just heartworms! In closing, probably the best thing I have experienced while there was having the staff care when the time comes to have to euthanize an animal. Ive cried my eyes out a few time there. Never was I rushed or treated unkind. Eventhough the staff has to carry the burden of guiding more pets over the rainbow bridge then most of us could even handle to think of, they still showed great empathy and cared for us as if they were going through the loss as well. Its a good place with a good staff :)

Very caring staff. We recommend testing yearly for heartworm disease in dogs because there are cases of infections happening while on preventives. Once infected a different medication must be used to cure it. It is a deadly disease! Does anyone realize eye medication costs about 20 to 30 times what skin medication costs? Go figure. As vets we use what works and is the least expensive or (some) people will simply not treat their pet. I set the prices (me the owner) and I go to the PetMed site to find what is a standard charge. We also price match if you bring evidence of a better deal. We are not a drug store. We are hospitals. BUT many of our medications are much less than any drug store so we do sell medication unlike human physicians. Did I say we "price match" ? We want your business for the SERVICES we offer that we were trained to do. Not just to sell stuff. I would have gone to Grocery School if that were the case. Complaints about cost make me crazy! Did I say we price match....? ( not on surgery or anything life threatening) If you want a cheap spay go find one. There are plenty. Every surgery we do is treated the same. Spay. Cancer surgery. Eye surgery. Dental extractions. Everything possible is done to have a good end result. For everything. We are not a Spay/Neuter Clinic BUT we do many of those procedures. And we do them just like their life depends on it because in reality it does. Bad things happen in every veterinary practice but our goal is ZERO. We do the testing, etcetera, to achieve that goal. We do run specials to attract new customer but nothing changes in the way we practice or the products used. The money lost is an advertising expense as I see it. And good clients always like a sale! We want clients, not just for the life of their pet, but for the life of the customer and all of their pets!

If I could give them zero stars, I would. I went to the clinic on Hebron Rd. It cost me over $600 for my two dogs yearly exams. They insisted that they run all kinds of blood tests and heartworm checks (even though my dogs are on heartworm year round). Okay - fine. But they couldnt draw blood from my one arthritic GSD without causing her to cry out (and offering to muzzle her). Shes been going to my other vet in Delaware for 11 years and they have NEVER had problems getting her blood. After SEVERAL attempts, they finally decide to try her back leg and low and behold, that works. I didnt realize that was an option, since I had already told them her front legs were terribly painful. I would have thought they would start in the back if that was an option. On top of all that, I need monthly prescriptions for my dogs. They dont have an after hours pickup option, they wont send it to me, they wont approve an online Rx and I cant get there during business hours. And by the way, since they only use Previcox for one other patient, I have to buy the entire mega bottle (at $250) instead of the 30 pills at a time that I get from my other vet. They are SO unhelpful and for what I paid, not worth it. I may just drive the hour and 10 minutes to my WONDERFUL vet in Delaware where I get great service, the office is actually clean, they never make my dogs cry out and they work with me on getting my prescriptions.

There is no way to express how much respect and fondness I have for the professionals at Underwood Animal Hospital. I regularly drive forty minutes each way to see Dr. Gilbert for my rats, and its completely worth it. The workers there know us by name, and theyre always friendly and eager to help. Dr. Gilbert is an absolute blessing--she listens wonderfully, truly cares, and handles my animals gently and kindly. Shes one of the only vets Ive ever known who knows anything at all about rats. Though it doesnt have much to do with treatment, I very much appreciate how affectionate and complimentary they are toward my pets; its nice to know I have a vet smart enough to appreciate how handsome my boys are. I really cant overstate how wonderful Underwood is; as a life-long animal lover, Ive seen a lot of vets, and none can quite compare to Dr. Gilbert and the rest of the staff.

The folks at Underwood Animal Hospital have been absolutely wonderful caring for my cats and dogs. I know a lot of people gripe about the pricing with vets of these days but after a good amount of research I have discovered that their prices are pretty much within range and everyone else in town. I highly recommend Underwood Animal Hospital in Heath for any of your pet needs including pet birds. My mother has had to bring her bird in a few times and is also had wonderful service.

My husband took an animal to this vet yesterday. They charged him $32 for a 0.5 oz. tube of neosporin after telling him the animal needed eye drops. Ive dealt with many vets since we own a multitude of animals and never been overcharged like this before. If you are in need of a good vet may I recommend Greg Price or Dr. Snedden. These vets, unlike Underwood are compassionate and caring and not crooked enough to charge you an outlandish amount for medication such as neosporin.
