Our 18 month old cat Ro had stomatitis. She was habitually having problems with her mouth getting red and infected, so we made the round of three different local vets in Portland, one even recommended that she be put down. The diagnosis was always stomatitis, and everyone seemed to be less than confident that she would be okay. Ro was getting worse - - our kitten had become introverted, didnt play, hid a lot and although she was hungry, didnt seem like she was enjoying life. It was pretty sad and she seemed depressed. One of the local vets with a large national chain wanted to pull the teeth herself, but after reading about the risks, I just couldnt trust that a general practice vet was doing what was in the best interest of Ro. So we let them give her another round of steroid shots and I took her to an internist specialist who I trusted hoping that I would get an answer. What specialist actually gave me was an excellent referral to the Animal Dental Clinic. I was determined to find a solution that didnt involve removing all her teeth. The technician assured me that it was a last resort and that the specialists would work with me and all the tools they have available to help Ro get her life back, and it didnt necessarily mean an extraction. Dr. Block came in to see Ro and I immediately felt at ease. She was kind, clearly knowledgeable and Ro even seemed more relaxed with her in the room. The news wasnt good though. The second she looked into Ros mouth, it was clear that this was BAD. In the past Ro hadnt been willing to let me look into her mouth, so I had only an idea what was going on. It was awful - she must have been in SO MUCH pain. Dr. Block knew right away what needed to happen - she needed a full mouth extraction. She walked me through the process, assured me that this was not "pulling teeth" as some general practice vets will do - that it was a oral surgery. She was also honest about the prognosis. She told me about some of her patients like Ro whose lives where changed by the surgery and also was honest that sometimes it doesnt solve the problem but it just makes it better. I knew that we were out of options. Ro was miserable and it was inhumane to let this go on any longer. I was also scared - removing all of a cats teeth seemed so drastic but after Dr. Block explained the whys of stomatitis, it all made sense. Particularly in a case like Ro, where the cat is young, the mouth is small and there is so much inflammation, it had to be done right. They couldnt get her on the schedule for a couple of weeks but we worked together with their cancellations and my schedule and we had her in for the surgery a few days later. AMAZING!! Ro came home the same day and they had her the right medication to make it through the first days of recovery pretty happy. Lots of purring and kneading. Once the pain killers wore off we started to see Ro emerge. Its been a couple of months now and shes a different cat! Ro now drops on the floor when she sees us to get her belly scratched, she doesnt hide, she LOVES to play and shes an all over happy cat. Dr. Block was right, we dont even recognize her. Pretty cool. People often asked us "how does she eat?" Quite fine I must say - she eats mostly wet food now and has actually gained weight. Her fur looks great and shes got spunk in her step. I knew that Ro was in the best possible hands with Dr. Block. I saw that she graduated from Yale and University of Pennsylvania Veterinary School, one of the best vet schools in the country. It doesnt get better than that. Shes compassionate, obviously talented and so so skilled. I feel fortunate that we found out about this amazing practice and I would recommend Dr. Block and the entire team to anyone. Thanks to all of you - - Ro has her quality of life back!!!

I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Battig and the Animal Dental Clinic. My dog was hit by a car and spent the night at Dove Lewis animal hospital. She was grinding her teeth and despite not seeing any broken bones on the x-ray they recommended I go to a clinic in Vancouver for a consult, CT scan, and had her scheduled for surgery. Having already spent $2,000 at the hospital, I was hesitant to rack up thousands more for the CT scan. I called my vet for a second opinion and he said he absolutely trusts Dr. Battig and is confident she would only recommend treatment if it was truly necessary. Dr. Battig agreed to see my pup even though she didn’t have any appointments open before the holiday weekend. I planned to drop her off for the day, but Dr. Battig brought us in for an exam ten minutes before her office opened. She did a thorough exam of my dog’s head, and said she didn’t see any signs of something being broken. She recommended waiting for a few days to see if my dog was simply grinding her teeth because she was in pain. Not only did she squeeze us in without an appointment, she didn’t charge me for the quick exam. That’s right, no charge at all! A few days later, and my dog is fine. I can’t say how grateful I am that Dr. Battig didn’t take advantage of my situation, and knowing how much I had already spent for my dog’s care she was kind enough to help me out when I needed it.

I cannot tell you enough how great Dr Battig is. I recently adopted a senior cat who had several extractions done at the shelter. Our vet recommended we see Dr Battig to asses the full damage in our poor kitties mouth. They fit us in the same week for our initial consult. The staff at the front were so welcoming and kind on arrival. Dr Battig thoroughly explained the condition and the risks for treatment options. The technicians were so gentle handling our cat, normally she can be a squirmer but they effortlessly examined her. Both Debra and Nicole were super thorough explaining policies, cost of services, and the time line for our pets procedure. I feel 100% confident that under their care our cat will return to full health! I wish this clinic wasnt specialty only because I would take my cat back there every time if I could.

I cant brag enough about this place. They truly take their time with your pet, try to make them feel safe and secure and arent trying to just rip you off. They make valid suggestions and let YOU make the decision. I went in here expecting to spend up to 2 grand and they actually saved me money by coming up with better alternatives to what my pet really needed. They called me during my dog Lunas procedure to give me an update and after to let me know it went smoothly. Im so glad I went here and definitely will come back even though it is a far drive for me. Thank you Dr. Hagerty! You have been amazing in this stressful experience.
