MY DOG ALMOST DIED- Did they care? I dont think so. they sent a postcard saying our small dog who is 7 needed 2 vaccines ( one of which was totally unnecessary- Bortadella) my husband brought in our delicate little Chihuahua, 11lbs she is, and at Vista Pet Hospital they said absolutely nothing to him just took our dog and shot her up with vaccines. ( no talk about the risks of either vaccine beforehand so he could have opted out after hearing the risks) they gave our dog 2 shots at once ( which is NOT recommended for small dogs-and I confirmed this with 3 other vets ) and then handed our dog back to my husband with absolutely NO warning about how their could be an allergic reaction and what to watch out for. not a word. just a bill. Fast forward a few hours, our dog was at Dove Lewis twice for severe reactions, our weekend was horrible, stressful, and unbelievably sad... She was near death the next day when I had to drive 80mph from our house in Beaverton to Dove Lewis. I tried to get a hold of Vista pet hospital but they had a message on all weekend with no way to even report an emergency. It was the worst weekend of our life, we cried all weekend, and our dog was in severe pain and on opiates, anti histamines, and IVs. Dove Lewis FAXED Vista pet hospital all the info on Monday, it is now Thursday, and our vet at Vista Pet Hospital has not even called to check on our dog. we have paid hundreds of dollars now to Dove Lewis, thankfully they took amazing care of our dog. all of this was unnecessary stress and risk, we blindly followed a postcard in the mail trusting that our dog needed these shots both in the same day. I believe from everything I read and heard from other vets, Bortadella is unnecessary, its for kennel cough (our dog will never has been kenneled) and the side effects are more dangerous than the sickness they are supposed to prevent. The wonderful vets at Dove Lewis even confirmed to me when I asked that this vaccine was probably not necessary for our dog. A good vet would first have a consultation with you before injecting poisonous viruses into your precious dog (who is like our child) to review the possible risks and give you the option of opting out of the vaccine if you feel the risk is too high. also, I feel a good vet would not give a fragile small dog 2 injections at once, they would split them up. they know she is fragile because she yipes louder than any other dog when getting her anal glands cleaned, she is a small sensitive dog. they knew this. I would like to warn others to not just trust your vet when they say your dog needs some vaccine, do your homework and make sure you understand the risks beforehand, and find out the possible side effects as well so you can watch your dog closely. We have talked to 3 other pet owners of small dogs all who said their vets spoke to them before giving vaccines to go over the risks, and even called them later that day to check to see how the dog was doing.

There are a lot of wonderful things to say about Vista Pet Hospital, and I especially liked the service provided by the front desk. However, I want to warn folks that if you have an older animal, you should take them somewhere that provides dental x-rays. We adopted an older stray cat and was told by Dr. Davis that x-rays were too costly to do and that he could tell if teeth needed removing by visual inspection. I also asked to have my cats ears clean, which was an offered service. When I picked up my cat, the ears were still very dirty - frankly I could have done a better job myself with a q-tip and some mineral oil. It was very clear that no cleaning had been done. The cats mouth still bothered her, so I googled dental specialists and for only $50 more in cost, I had her teeth cleaned by Forever Pet Dental in Vancouver. Visual inspection by their vet confirmed what the x-rays later proved, that the cat had 2 teeth being resorbed and they needed to be removed. The x-rays also revealed roots of several teeth that had already broken off. The cat came back to me this time with immaculately cleaned ears and also before/after photos of the teeth cleaning which showed clearly that Vista had done a very poor job the first time. I wrote a detailed letter of my experience to Dr. Davis, and he replied without any acknowledgment that they would improve their services. He did, however, refund my money for the teeth cleaning they did even though I hadnt asked him to. Sometimes, you get what you pay for.

Did not have a good experience at Vista. I had just adopted a dog on 12/22, and we needed to have him neutered ASAP. I also let them know I had the neutering coupon from Humane Society Called and made an appointment, told them he had been coughing, had a lot of anxiety, and just needed to be looked at in general in addition to the neutering. When I got there, they just took him away. No examination with me and the doctor, no sit down to ask what was going on with him, nothing. It was like dropping my car off at the repair shop. They called me during his surgery to tell me his back claws were coming off, so they suggested removing them. I had no idea what this meant, but they just told me itd be best for him in the long run, so I agreed. When I picked him up, they gave me a ton of information, but not much written detail for me to follow up with later. I had to keep calling to ask for clarification. A few days later, I noticed one of his back paws was swollen up twice its size. They had wrapped the bandages on his back legs so tight that one paw wasnt getting any circulation. I had to take it off, ice it on and off for about an hour, and it eventually went back to normal. I went to a different vet, and they have heard similar reviews about Vista. Im really disheartened by this, because there were so many good reviews about this place. Maybe this just happens when people use the neutering coupon? At any rate, really bad experience, and we will be taking our pup elsewhere.

I have been seeing Dr. Davis as well as the lady Dr. (sorry dont remember her name) I thought both Dr. were caring and made my dogs and myself feel so cared for. The staff is always helpful and nice. You just cant beat the prices at Vista, they are the lowest I found after many phone calls. I had a dog to have neutered and since then I have gone back because of the wonderful place they are. How can I expect my pets to feel comfortable if I didnt in a vets office? I do and as much as they can be comfortable out of their home they seem fine. I love the house cats and dog there as well. Also was there when my sister had to put her kitty down. Even that as sad as it was for us, the Dr. and staff helped us through the whole ordeal. They also make it easy on the pet going to heaven. Yes Id say Vista is the place to go in the SW area. love them all.
