I have to agree with the other complainers about the sandy animal clinic. They are out to rip you off for every nickel they can get out of you.I am retired from the U S Navy and also a formr certified Emergency Medical Tech.. there is no difference sticking a needle in dog or a human being. recently, my dog contacted HGE, (hemmorhagic gastoenteritis) this is characterized by bloody diahrea sometimes referred to as rasberry diahrrea as it looks like mushy raberries. This situation can drain a dog, especially a sall dog of a large amount of its bodily fluids and die in 24 hours. The doctor at the sandy animal clinic, a young woman, wanted to do all sorts of blood tests and in all was going to charge me ovefr $500. I objected and told them to just treat my dog as normal for diahrrea which is the infusion of a bag of water under the skin. This was done at a cost of $182.00.and I explained to the vet assistant that I was a former EMT and would like to be present when they give the bag of water to my dog. She agreed. I stood right there and actually assisted her with the infusion of the water . The next morning, I called the same place and asked if I could buy a bag of water and take it home and give it to my dog myself, the receptionist said sure, it would cost $16.. I said Id be right down. when I arrived at the clinic, I was told the doctor wanted to see me so I went into an examining room where she urged me to do all he blood tests I refused to have her do the day before and also, that before she would sell me a bag of water, I would have to bring my dog in and have her show me how to do it. Even though I just assisted her assistant doing it the day before.. It l became so clear to me that this doctor was not interested in the well being of my dog, she was only interested in draining my pocket book for as much money as she could get out of me. I devised another way to administer sterile saline solution into my dog and within another 24 hours, he was back to his regular old self and no longer had diarrhea. I would really give a lot of thought before taking your pet to the sandy animal clinic. Gerald Miller, Chief, U S Navy (ret.)

I am from Fiji and just recently returned back home on a trip to Portland OR. Nearing the end of my trip, I was driving down highway 26 when I saw a dog on the roadside. Pulling over to check, I could see that it definitely belonged to someone. Gently, I picked up the dog and put her in my car. Drove to sandy and was lucky enough to spot Sandy Animal Clinic. I went in with the dog (I dont know about other people, but the atmosphere of a particular place speaks more about the place itself) and a lovely lady greeted me with a smile and asked if she could assist me. I said yes and told her that I found a pretty looking Maltese dog on the side of the road. She went out the back and came back within 2 minutes (and yes, I timed her) with a technician and a scanner. The technician was very polite and asked if she could scan the adorable pooch. She then asked if I could have a seat while she checked their records. She came back out and advised me that she had found the owners and contacted them and that they were already on their way. Now all this took a total of 30 minutes and in my opinion, the staff handled themselves properly and were very keen to help. Back home, when you go into a clinic or shop, you get the look on the face that says, "I could be in bed right now, what do you want". Soon after, the family came in to pick the little lady and the exciting look on all their faces tells all. Her name is "Missy" and she couldnt be happier. They said thanks and we parted. I have since then recommended Sandy Animal Clinic to my family and friends around sandy area and even all the way in Portland. In all honesty, I use to work for a clinic here in my home country which I believe needs a lot of help and attention (in terms of customer service and the management) and I personally recommend Sandy Animal Clinic to move to Fiji and help them. keep up the good work guys and I hope and pray that we have more veterinarians, technicians and receptionists like you guys and also move to Fiji please. :)

Rushed my dog into this clinic to be seen (closest clinic to me) for possible rat poison exposure. Vet recommended to not give her the antidote, but to wait a couple days/do another blood clot test. Clot test was 6.3...lowest of the normal range. Her test did not put me at ease. I insisted we start her on Vitamin K1 To be safe (a natural supplement given with no adverse affects if given and not needed). Vet kept reiterating she did not recommend it and instead wait-and-see and to make another appointment a few days later. Frustrated/confused at this point, but went ahead and made the appointment...I monitored my dog through the weekend. I later cancelled the appointment with them telling them that perhaps she just had allergies (in fact I wanted to have her checked out at my primary vet clinic instead/second opinion). I spoke with the vet at Sandy Animal Saturday, and by Monday night I noticed massive bruising on the underside of her neck. Had my primary vet check her out...explained she may have been exposed to rat poison and that Sandy Animal recommended I wait. I told my vet what her clot test number was...he asked me where Sandy Animal drew the blood from - I told him they drew from her leg as I was informed...he immediately administered antidote for rat poison, along with some antibiotics for possible infection on her throat area due to inflammation/swelling. Afterwards, took her into Sandy Animal to show hematoma...they told me drew from neck instead of leg like I thought, and she was squirmy so that is why she developed a hematoma. I expressed my upset that they did not inform me they drew blood from her neck, or that there could be a possible hematoma. Common sign of rat poisoning is bruising. If I would have been told that my dog could develop a hematoma from blood draw and that it was done on her neck, I would not have assumed it was a sign of rat poison...but was never told this by Sandy Animal and it has caused a lot of upset and worry. Will not go back.

Our GROWING PUPPY ended up breaking her toe. They did a full leg cast and told us to come back in every week and they would change the cast and to make sure she was healing properly. She was on strict kennel rest for 3 weeks, just like they told us. On the second week, we took her in and the doctor checked her cast and said it was fine and we didnt need to change it out. On the third week, and mind you this has been the same cast this whole time, we took her in and now she has a sore on her heel so deep that it could turn into a bone infection. They said it was from too much activity, but how can that be when she was in a kennel for 3 weeks? We know it was because they never changed her cast, which they should have seeing as a puppy can grow a LOT in 3 weeks. We probably should have made them change out the cast on the 2nd week, but we trusted the doctor and now our puppy is paying the consequences. She could end up losing her leg, if not her life because of this. When I called them after hearing the news, I didnt go to the last appointment to get the cast off, to talk to the doctor and ask some questions, he was very quick to call me a liar about her kennel rest. Yes, I was pissed. Yes, I could have been nicer about it. But after he accused me of not taking care of my dog I FREAKED out, and told him I want to know who is paying her vet bill because it wont be us. WE ARE NOT PAYING FOR THEIR MALPRACTICE. Even the nurse said that if they had changed the cast this probably wouldnt have happened. After talking to a couple people about it, they had similar claims. One person said her dog had surgery here and that she had to end up taking her dog somewhere else to get that surgery corrected. After her next couple appointments, we will not be returning. This is a disgrace of an animal hospital and we will take our pup to a place that actually cares.
