I have been taking my pets to Banfield since Dr. Steed was the Vet. We loved Dr. Steed, and always appreciated the staff as well including Al and Stephanie. They always went above and beyond to make sure that you were comfortable and that our pets were taken care of. We had to take my 13 year old cat this weekend to be euthanized. This is not an easy decision for any pet owner. She has lost half of her weight in the last 6 months, could hardly move, and the list goes on. She was very sick, and we didnt have the money to do expensive testing. We literally agonized for the last three months on what to do. We explored our options as a family, and finally came upon the decision that it was time to say goodbye. We called a few months before and were quoted a price to have this done. When we arrived, they examined Guinevere, and immediately began to question why we were putting her down. We explained the situation and it fell on cold, deaf ears. There was no empathy or acknowledgement of the decision that we had made. After the tech left the room, the Dr came in and shook our hands. And immediately told us that she was confused. I told her the cat was at least 13. She went on to tell us that there could be other things wrong that were treatable and showed absolutely no heart to the decision we already made. After leaving the room, the tech came back in and told us the cost. It was 50.00 more than we were quoted on the phone, she told us that we were misquoted. The cost included an office exam of 40.00- that we didnt ask for! After arguing with them, they removed the office visit. I will never return to this clinic, we had previously had to euthanize our dog a few years ago, and were not made to feel like garbage about our difficult decision. This experience was totally unacceptable. I understand that they need to give you the options, and that they may include tests and treatments. However, if the pet owner chooses not to do those things, they should not be made to feel more horrible than they already do. Losing a pet is difficult as it it, you dont need to be treated poorly by the staff of a Vets office.

I typically dont write bad reviews but this crossed a line for me. This place is terrible. I had a plan with them when I first got my puppy. Then my dog ripped her nail. I immediately took her to Banfield where they wrapped her paw so tight and with ridiculous sticky tape that it ripped her fur taking it off, and caused the nail to get worse and I had to take her to a different vet who properly cared for her. It was completely unnecessary what Banfield did. And they try to get you to pay as much as possible every time you stop in. I switched vets over a year ago and today my dog had a tick. My vet was booked so I took her to Banfield thinking id give them another chance. The tick fell off in the room so that was fine. But the lead vet there talked down on me like I was stupid when she said my dogs vaccines were way overdue. Well, yeah I stopped going to you guys and all her vaccines are up to date. When I explained that to her she stuck her nose up at me and huffed like she didnt believe me. Then proceeded to scold me about my dogs weight. Which Im already aware of because I recently changed her food and have been altering her diet to adjust to the new food. Then the vet, when I asked about lowering the amount of food, she said no dont lower it and that somehow the amount Im giving her now is not enough? But the vet says shes overweight? No clear answers, no help, and extremely poor customer service. Today was a reminder why I cancelled my plan and stopped going here. There are plenty of other small private owned vets that actually care about the animals they see and that care for the owners as well. Oh, and other vets that dont try to rip you off and empty your wallet as much as Banfield does. Ive had one too many bad experiences here and Im sure Im not the only one who feels their customer service and their vets are cold!

The previous reviewer has obviously never been to this vet. We began taking our pets to Banfield in 2008, when the privately owned vet we were seeing raised their prices dramatically and decreased their quality of care (they lost tests, had a long wait time, really pushed certain products, etc.). Banfields prices are affordable (you dont need to take out a second mortgage to pay for annual check-ups and shots), and they were recommended to us by friends who said their bedside manner was excellent. We were glad we tried Banfield after our first visit. When our dog took a turn for the worst in 2010, she required many visits to Banfield. Dr. Matter was extremely knowledgable, always had a positive attitude despite our dogs age and setbacks, and the techs were reassuring and kind when they would see tears in our eyes. When our dog passed away, the staff was very warm and professional. We have since rescued another dog and there is no other vet we would consider. On the very rare occasion you need an ER vet during the night, go to the overnight vet on Rt. 8 or Bradford Hills in Wexford. For everyday care where your pet will be treated well and you dont cringe when you go to the register, go to Banfield.

When my sweet guinea pig Cleopatra came down with a fatal illness in March 2015, I was desperately trying to find a vet willing to put her to sleep. I called 7 other vets, but none were willing to do it- and those who were charge 300$ for small animal euthanasia! Then I called Banfield. They were very caring and set up an appointment that night at 5:30. We were brought in immediately, and we got to say our last goodbyes. The doctor then carefully picked her up and brought her back into the room and was humanely put down. The staff was very professional and kind-hearted. They sent us a card with their condolences a few days later. Cleopatra has been to this vet before the illness hit her for ringworm. She LOVED the vets here! She was born deaf in both ears and was often timid of new people, but she came right out to say "Hi!" when the doctor came in. She was cooperative with all the tests (including a skin sample- ouch!) and didnt try to bite once. Thats how skilled these vets are.

Dr Meyers is awesome. She saved my guinea pig, Skittles, life a couple of years ago. He had bumblefoot and she quickly prescribed antibiotics - another vet said it was not necessary... After his infection cleared and I read up on his condition, I discovered he would have died without the "pink stuff". He went for a checkup today and I was told that he may be suffering from kidney disease (hes 6 years old). Ive had vets in the past who have tried to scam me with my piggies; putting them through unnecessary and painful exams - both to my pets and my wallet. Instead of pushing blood work or medication, she said "theres no reason to get it- all it will do is confirm a diagnosis...we cant really do anything". Shes also seeing him in a month - free of charge - to checkup on his weight. An office visit is $40.95, which is a lot, but youre paying for a vets opinion, a vet-tech, the space and the registration ladies time. When you factor in all of that, its not too bad.
