My husband and I moved to Roanoke from SD where wed had the same vet for nearly 20 years. We were hoping to find a local vet with that same focus on family (in our case, we have doggie children) that we found in SD. I spent a lot of time talking with folks and reading online reviews, those work well in SD but in Roanoke there arent a lot of them (in comparison any way) but of those, Valley Animal Hospital stood out. SO, I made an appt to take the dogs in for a check up (different shots are required in SD, CA and Roanoke) and just fell in love with the business... and I will mention, in particular BJ who was there at that time to greet us at the door. She gave the doggies treats, talked to them, seated us, brought me coffee... talked to me. Just so so sweet and I absolutely love seeing her up there. The whole office is lovely and attentive to you and your pet. Weve had a couple challenges since weve been here - we live on a mountain and weve had our female rip her leg on barbed wire, she got very sick with EPI and we ultimately got a referral to the specialty clinic but our vet there was right with us the entire way. You might say that Ive tested these guys out and Im very happy with the service my pets have received and the pleasant office and courteous service I get. I drive all the way from Cave Spring up to their office and dont regret the drive for a minute. Highly recommend them.

I cant say enough how impressed I was with this clinic. I had recently moved to Roanoke from Rocky Mount, and had a bad experience with another area vet. When I called Valley Animal Hospital on a Saturday morning with a sick dog, never having been there before, the staff member who answered the phone went out of her way to fit my Tippie in to be seen that morning. From the minute I walked through the door the entire staff was right there welcoming us and offering assistance. One staff member frequently brought over bowls of water for the dogs without being asked. Dr. Gallagher was absolutely wonderful.....kind and loving with Tippie and very knowledgable. My baby has a long history of ear infections, and he made certain he got a full report on what had and had not worked before. The sick visit cost was a little more than I was used to paying, but I got a $20 discount as a new patient...and most importantly, their was no refusal to write rxs (so I could save $ by getting them filled at Krogers) or charge for writing them to be filled elsewhere....I had one local vet charge me $25 each rx she wrote to be filled somewhere else. He also made sure he discussed the cost of everything before ordering so their were no surprises. So in the end Im sure I saved money. And the care and comfort they gave was priceless...hope I never have to take Tippie anywhere else!

Ive been taking my various pets to Valley Animal Hospital for many years, and I cant say enough good things about the veterinarians, the staff, and the care that my furry children have gotten. Theyve taken care of my pets from adoption through the time theyve assisted them in going Over The Rainbow Bridge, and I couldnt ask for more compassionate, knowledgeable, and caring partners in my pets care. I particularly have to thank Dr. Kroenlein and Dr. Jonen, who helped extend my Cammie-Cats life two months longer than the original prognosis and for spending time with me, my husband, and Cammie before we had to say good-bye. Ill never forget that, and I cant tell you how comforting it was. Additional kudos to Dr. Jonen for diagnosing and helping my Stripey-Cat recover from a stroke, and to Dr. Kroenlein for saying, "Shes not fat; shes just a big girl." Dr. Poage and Denise saw me through many rabbits and a couple of cats before then, and Denise remembers how much Cammie did not want to go Into The Box. (Thanks again for the peroxide!) If youre looking for an animal hospital in the Roanoke Valley, I highly recommend entrusting your pets care to the folks at Valley Animal Hospital. Theyve been very, very good to me, and I know theyll do the same for you.

Valley Animal Hospital has the most helpful and courteous staff and excellent, attentive doctors. Sometimes its not just about the care of your pet, its also about caring for and listening to the pet parent. I live in the Cave Spring area and up until recently have been using a veterinary hospital that is only ten minutes from my home. We moved here last year from out of state and it was a "convenient" location as my 90+ pound dog is a handful and is not fond of car rides. As I became increasingly dissatisfied with the old location, I decided to make the switch to Valley Animal Hospital, which is a twenty-minute ride from my house. I had already been taking my cat there since last year when we hadnt identified a veterinary care provider yet and my cat suddenly became ill. I made several calls to vets in the area and Valley Animal Hospital was the only one who had me bring my cat in before the end of the day. We were treated with great care that day. I would highly recommend Valley Animal Hospital to any pet parent. They will treat your pet well and they will treat you well, too!

Anytime you have to put a long time family member to sleep is a heart wrenching time. This we had to do with our loving Stoney just recently. I chose VAH due to previous experience there and I always like how wonderful the Veterinarians and Staff are. Although on this day with my heart breaking it wasnt the best. I chose to say Excellent regarding the quality of care I received from the Vet and the Tech that helped me. The front office staff was very rude and cold. My husband waited in the waiting area because he could not go back and be with our Stoney, not that he wasnt allowed he just couldnt bring himself to see him so sick. While he was breaking down in tears the front staff did nothing, they did not offer him water or tissues they just ignored him. I would think they would ask if he was OK or something, being that he was saying goodbye to a family member.. The only ones who offered sympathy at all was the Tech and the Veterinarian. Even the Oakey]s Staff that we used to cremate our dear Stoney was wonderful. I am very disappointed.

Valley Animal hospital is fantastic. Our family dog visited there for routine shots and exams. The staff was always super friendly and helpful. Our dog became terminally ill and our veterinarian was able to help us with prescribing some medications for her. Her prognoses wasnt good but she lived for 6 months after her diagnosis. When she left this world the staff at Valley Animal Hospital were so sympathetic to us and even mailed us a touching sympathy card signed by all the staff. If we ever get another pet we will definitely take our next family member there. They have a very nice waiting room, complimentary snacks, coffee, popcorn. Wow, how nice. And my pup always went home with a super cute bandana when she left. I would recommend this vet to anyone. The veterinarian Dr. K, even went out of his way and made personal phone calls to check on our dog to see how she was doing and to see what the best course of treatment would be for our terminally ill dog. They were wonderful and again I highly recommend this vet.
