This practice is a mess. The office staff is rude and snippy. They are also completely inept. I showed up for my first prenatal exam with my husband who had to take the afternoon off work to come. They had some sort of computer issue and stated they could not check me in. They told me to wait but did not even bother to write my name down. I watched them check in several other women who came in after me and they were promptly seen. After waiting 1/2 an hour I approached one of the receptionists and asked her if she would at least take my name. She told me to sit down. My husband couldnt believe her tone. An hour later a nurse came out and announced they wouldnt be taking any more patients because of the computer issues and that we would all have to reschedule (50 + women) but that we couldnt do it at that time because of the computer issues. Someone asked if her if they were out of papers and pencils and she got very flustered and responded to that woman very condescendingly. After she stomped out of the waiting room everybody rushed to the window. Where they were told they could not reschedule and the receptionists wouldnt even write their names down to call the next day. I left and promptly rescheduled my appointment with a different practice. I called Erie OB GYN and notified them that they needed to cancel my appointments (I had scheduled two appointments for the pregnancy in advance) They said they would do so. They then hassled my new practice about transferring my records despite me calling them and having signed a release. Two months later I got a call from their automated system reminding me of the first of the appointments. I called them and the girl was extremely rude to me. She kept trying to cut me off but I wouldnt let her till I verified that all the appointments were in fact cancelled. She tried to tell me that they were going to bill me for the first appointment claiming I hadnt called to cancel it within 24 hours. I told her it had been cancelled 2 months previous and she replied "well according to you." The entire office staff from the office manager(s) down to the receptionists need to be fired. My experience with the physicians was good but completely clouded by their staffs ineptitude.

I had such high hopes for this Ob/Gyn after hearing such good things from friends/neighbors. However, my experience was a nightmare. As many other reviews have mentioned, the staff are cold and unhelpful, both in person and over the phone. Bedside manner was also very poor. I was addressed as "Kiddo" throughout my appointment, which was highly degrading. I had a procedure done and I was explicitly told that my insurance would cover it (which I now know was a mistake on the part of the person who said this, since the office does not call your insurance and check coverage for you, so they have no idea what your insurance will or will not cover until they submit the claim later). Now, 2 months later and Im still receiving bill after bill for different parts of the procedure: hospital facility usage fees (because apparently some samples were sent to a hospital lab), pathology service fees (for the technicians to actually test said samples), fees for seeing the Ob/Gyn at their offices, etc, etc. This was an optional procedure that I would have never undergone had I known it would cost me this much money. I also was never given any explanation of said procedure, its pros and cons, or its expected outcomes. It was just referred to me as "something we should do to be safe." After doing some research after the fact, I have learned that it is actually a controversial procedure and with all the information beforehand, I would have likely not chosen to undergo it. Throughout the procedure, all my questions were answered with only the most basic and juvenile facts, again, pretty insulting for someone who also works in the health field and can handle an explanation a bit more advanced than "you seem to have a lumpy-bumpy." I still have not been able to get any information on the results of the lab work that cost me a fortune since it was sent to the local hospital. Ive called multiple times and the receptionist refuses to put me through to the doctor, nurse practitioner, PA, or anyone for that matter. Ive just been simply told "tests were inconclusive, but you should have nothing to worry about." Thanks, but Ill be taking my business elsewhere.

I have been a patient of Dr. Scutellas for 12+ years. He literally saved my life. I had been without health insurance, and so let my gynecological health sit on the back burner...well I was told that our local Planned Parenthood would take appts without insurance, for free and that was wonderful. Anyway, my pap was so abnormal the NP immediately scheduled me for a LEEP and a cone biopsy with Dr. Scutella. Again, I was not charged a penny. I was told that had I gone another year without a pap, I definitely would have gotten cervical cancer. He took me on as one of his permanent patients. We worked out a payment plan for office visits until I obtained insurance. He has been with me through ALL my abnormals (which is every pap), when I suddenly developed severe groin pain he DXd a uterine fibroid, and just this past week I had another LEEP. He never rushes my appointments, he always takes time to talk to me, to answer my questions, to suggest treatment options and he doesnt leave the appointment until I feel comfortable with what weve discussed. I have also never had a problem with any of his staff--they are always helpful, courteous, discreet, and kind. Some people I have seen are complaining about the pager/number system they now use. Its for HIPAA compliance, its not designed to make you feel like "just a number". There are so many doctors/PAs/NPs in that office that the waiting area is consistently full. If they called people by their first names they will always have more than one "Mary", or "Susan" or insert-name-here. By associating you with a number and a pager, they are protecting your privacy and ensuring that they are calling the correct patient back to the correct appointment. I cant express how happy I am with this office.

This practice deserves negative stars. The phone system is a complete mess. You choose the option to make an appointment and you listen to music for three minutes before it kicks you back to the main menu again. When you do get through to someone, they are rude and interrupt. They have 0 concern for you because, lets face it, they are your only option. So where else are you going to go? My pharmacy tried calling them twice to get my refills approved and they never got a return call. It took me two hours to get through and talk to a person to get it cleared up. From the way they treat you when you walk in the door, to when you see someone, they treat you like cattle. You are just a number to them. They hand you a beeper like in a restaurant. You feel rushed through the appointment. My family member lost her two day old baby, and when she went in for a check up, they asked how the baby was doing. Who does that!?!? They see so many people, they dont know you from the next person.... Very dangerous when you are dealing with peoples health. Shes had complications after this as well, and had such a hard time getting through it was ridiculous. They are horrible at returning calls. When she finally got ahold of someone, they treated her like crap... Showing complete disregard for her concerns. All of this is so sad, because before my group of doctors at Bayside OB/GYN joined this nightmare of a practice, I couldnt say enough good about them. If you are going to have a monopoly and be the only place a woman can go to for OB/GYN services in Erie, you need to step it up and get your acts together. Women deserve better. This is so far beyond unacceptable, I dont even know what to say.
