We have moved from VABeach to Fairfield in 1997. We breeded Siberian Huskys at the time. We went to a local vet down the street for shots and exams for a litter of puppys and it was outrageous priced. We started going to Gettysburg Vet then and still do. We have had several litters since. Have kept a dog from one litter and the mother and the father. We have had several cats come and go. Gettysburg get has always given us the respect and honor our animals have needed to be given. When 2 years so our cat got very ill on a weekend and was taken to an emergency vet, which chaged us an arm and a leg. We ok the cat there after. They fixed the problem for 1/4 of the price of the emergency vet had charged us and was going to charge us for a diagnosis. He is alive and still kicking. We took the Momma Siberian Husky there the day before Thanksgiving last year and we knew she was done. We called and asked to put her down They were going to put her on a gurney and I told them not to do that I did not want to remember like that. They abided and let my husband carry her in with dignity. They looked at her explained to us it was time and let her sleep in peace. They cremated her and we received a death certificate and a bautiful box we have her in. They called us to follow up to see if we were ok. Today her son is very ill. And we called them up and did not hesitate to take him in. I believe in these doctors with my life. We have been seeing them since 1997 with dogs, cats and a bird. They look at them and take care of them all. Kudos to your staff. Our family loves your work and compassion .

I wish there were more stars on the survey than 10 because I would rate the Gettysburg Animal Hospital much higher if I could. From the front office staff, veterinary assistants, and the veterinarians working here, I must say they are the most caring and helpful people I have ever met. My husband and I care for many rescued cats. Some of our rescues have serious medical issues we only discover after taking them in. Whenever we call for an appointment for an emergency situation, the staff always does their best to accommodate us. Everyone here loves animals and go above and beyond to ensure your pet receives the best treatment at a reasonable price. Our primary veterinarian is Dr. Myra Jones. Some of our rescue cats are feral and require special handling. They can be a bit difficult to handle, but Dr. Jones is patient, and she takes the time to figure out how to handle them in a way that doesnt upset them, so she can give them the care they need. Their care and needs really are her priority. Dr. Jones is always professional, knowledgeable, and displays kindness and compassion for every cat we bring in. She always gives us the time we need and explains the situation in a straight forward and honest manner. She has saved the lives of many of our cats that seemed hopeless. We want to thank Dr. Jones and the rest of the staff at the Gettysburg Animal Hospital for everything you have done and continue to do for the rescue cats we bring to you. We are glad we found this practice and look forward to a long relationship.

Dr. Dodson can be a little abrasive with how he delivers potential bad news to pet owners, but he works hard to save my dog every time we go in with an emergency and there have been several! Last week I took my Boston Terrier (Bree) in who had been seizing and was near death. Dodson didnt skip a beat. He whisked her away and worked to save her life while we waited in a room close to where he was working on her. We could hear almost everything and he and his staff were AMAZING saving her life! The aftercare in the days following her seizure was also wonderful. Ive worked with Dr. Dodson long enough to know that if you truly love and care for your animal he has the upmost respect for you, but if he detects neglect from pet owners he acts differently, however, despite his feelings toward pet owners he will give your pet the best care possible. If youre lucky enough to have a conversation with Dr. Dodson you will see how evident his love for animals is, but if youre a dead beat pet owner whose easily offended, I suggest you take your pets here for care and suck up comments from the doctor that you probably need to hear! In an emergency situation I only want Dr. Dodson caring for my Bostons, but thats just my personal preference. The ENTIRE staff is great!!! They also started taking credit and debits cards, as well as payment plans, which makes paying the bill much easier. Thank you!!!

Dr. Dodson doesn’t care about your animal; he cares about your money. I will never return to Gettysburg Animal Hospital. Dr. Dodson owns the practice, his staff is nice, but HE is a terrible man. I took my cat in because she was throwing up; he told me she needed surgery. I needed to figure out how to pay for it before proceeding, and when I brought up money, he flipped out on me flailing his arms and storming around the room. He said to me, and I quote “Let me ask you this, why did you even bother coming here today?” Are you kidding me?! I have never been spoken to with such disrespect in my life and all because I inquired about the cost of a surgery. he told me to get out and I left in tears and humiliated. I called other places to see if they could do it but had no luck since it needed to happen immediately. I swallowed my pride, called Dodson again the next day to see if he would do it and he said no. He didn’t think he could work with me per our conversation the day before. I asked if another surgeon from his practice could do it, he said “I don’t want anyone in my building working on your animal.” I had to put my cat down. She was only 2. He had the power to save my cat’s life and said no because his ego was bruised. Dodson, you killed my cat. You work in an industry where compassion is number one, and showed none whatsoever. I reported him to the Better Business Bureau.

We transferred to a more local Vet due to distance, we have 3 animals, two cats and a dog. "Miss Dog" or Missy has had some Cherry Eye issue and we of course googled and sought the Vets recommendations. We like the fact that the animal is treated in our presence, that the vets are personable and explain the treatment options. More importantly we felt that the steroids and eye drop approach and the best interests of the dog was paramount and frankly love our animal and as long as there was no medical issue would forego the surgery even if the condition makes her look bad. We appreciated the frank advice, non-rush to surgery, and the professional handling that we have received at that hospital. One of our cats Andy has been treated there and did have surgery due to fights, again the best interest of the animal and transparency is what we want. My wife and I both work in support of the medical field, and we want the same approach to treatment we would get. Though the drive is further, the best medical care for your pet is at this facility. I would recommend these people. Aside from saying Miss Dog was chubby, never nice to speak about a lady like that in the room, again.. good people. I rarely post comments and do however with Vets because I know your animals matter.
