I saw a psychiatrist there for anxiety and ADHD for about a year. She met with me once for about twenty minutes and just asked me a few questions about my life. She then proceeded to diagnose me with ADHD without running a single test and after knowing me for less than half an hour. The worst however, was how poorly they handled refilling my prescriptions. My doctor was supposed to reauthorize my prescriptions, but once, while she was on vacation for two weeks, they decided to wait until she got back. They didnt even contact me to let me know what was going on, and they were more than happy to let me go two weeks without my medications, when any other doctor there could have reauthorized them instead. When I called and asked them why no one had bothered to contact me and let me know what was going on, they responded that they are not required to do that, showing how little they care about their patients. It didnt seem to bother them at all that I had been waiting for my prescriptions to be filled for so long without so much as an explanation for why it was taking so long. I told them to take me out of their system and that I would go elsewhere and havent been back since. This is by far the worst doctors office Ive ever been to. If you live in the Gettysburg/Emmitsburg/Fairfield area and are in need of psychiatric assistance, go somewhere else.

I cant speak for every department, but my experiences with the behavior health department have been terrible. The secretaries are grossly incompetent. They never pick up the phone when I call from home. They often have a negative attitude and go out of their way to make that known. I called multiple several days in advance to have a therapy appointment rescheduled only to not have any of my calls returned. Now I have to wait 6 months for being a quote:"No show" I tried to call them, but they wouldnt pick up the phone or call back. My psychiatrist is even worse. He never told me about the major side effects of a medication im currently taking. I recently looked into the matter myself only to discover that heart related irregularities are a major side effect. (I passed out and went into Afib) Hrmmmmmmmmm? In addition to that. When I told my psychiatrist about my experiences. He wanted me to have a test done to determine if my medication was the problem, but the test he wanted me to do isnt meant to make that determination. Its not even what it is built for...My psychiatrist is also with holding my records from me which is against the law.

I have been seeing Wellspan BH doctors since 2000, with the exception of once. I have never had a terrible experience, there have been a few bad or oops experiences. I dont take anything out on my doctors, they dont always know what is going on up front. I did once have to wait on a prescription, but I kept calling every day and leaving messages. (Again no fault of my doctors) until the office staff took my needs to another doctor for approval. I do agree with the negativity from the up front staff members. Although there are a few I absolutely adore. The phone thing drives me up a wall. They claim to try to reach you, but picking up a phone on their end is nearly impossible. They could at least pick up and ask you to hold, acknowledging your call. I got a letter recently telling me they have been trying to reach me; hello are you dialing the right number?? I can see they havent been trying. Ive been trying to call back and havent talked to anyone. Again not the fault of my doctors.

The Gettysburg Pa. WellSpan is the best place for outpatient psychiatric care and medication. I highly recommend this place to people who need help for depression or other illnesses that require medical management. The only issue is that people have to wait so long to be evaluated, but once they are, they receive above average care.

They are overworked and understaffed. My daughter has to wait MONTHS in between appointments because they are so short staffed. Super nice folks, they need more of them!

Get healthy. Its not all bad. Stop in, make an appointment, and become whole once again!
