DO NOT BRING YOUR CHILDREN TO THIS OFFICE! I brought my 8yr old son to this place to have a cavity removed, I picked Kool Smiles because I wanted a place geared towards children so it wouldnt be a scary overwhelming experience. When we walked in everything looked great, very clean, inviting waiting area with things for children to do. Nice receptionist. We were called back fairly quickly. The back area was open and clean looking. The nurse took us to get Xrays, and thats where the hell started and it turned into the worst dentist visit I have ever known. The nurse jabbed the Xray film into my sons mouth to the point where he gagged and threw up a little in his mouth, she did not apologize, she just started saying "I didnt even touch him, I didnt even touch him". We went to the exam room and the doctor and nurse started getting everything ready, went over the Xrays and told me an extraction would work. I told the nurse I wanted "laughing gas" for my son to calm him down, again I wanted this to be easy on him- not some horrible ordeal. They put him on gas but didnt explain it too him, I was the one that told him to calm down and breathe through his nose. Kool Smiles states in their paperwork multiple times that they "show-tell-do" to explain everything before it takes place to keep the child at ease, that did not happen at all. At no time during the visit did the doctor or the nurse explain anything to my son, or to me for that matter. Since I have had a tooth removed before I ended up just standing by my son and explaining everything they were about to do while the doctor and nurse came in and out of the room. The only time they spoke to my son was to Bark at him to move this way or that. They stuck numbing gel in his mouth and around his tooth so hard he started to get upset and they brushed it off. Then they stuck him with the novacaine needle without saying anything to him and the doctor told him "well yeah its gonna hurt" when my son flinched and complained. A short time later the doctor came back in and just jumped right in and started yanking out the tooth. I stood beside my son and helped hold him in place because he was scooting off the chair, then he started screaming in pain as the doctor ripped the tooth out. At first I thought he was just scared but it became very clear that the novacaine didnt work and the doctor just took my sons tooth with no pain relief. My son was in so much pain he just cried and cried and the nurse told him "you need to calm down and stop crying cause you might scare the other kids" I have never wanted to hurt anyone so much in my life! My son is 8yrs. old, not a little kid, but a tough boy and I have never seen him so hurt and scared. We ended up going to another dentist on the way home to get him checked out and the other dentist told us the cavity was probably infected and the dentist shouldnt have pulled it without giving antibiotics for a week first, thats why the novacaine didnt work. The people at that office told me they hear complaints about Kool Smiles in Columbia all the time and were nice enough to give my son a prescription for pain. This visit turned into eveything it wasnt supposed to be. Start to finish the whole thing lasted maybe 25 minutes, but my son will never forget those 25 minutes.

I scheduled my appointment 2 months in advance because I wanted my kids and I to go to the same dentist. I was on hold for almost 15 minutes scheduling my appointment, which should have been a flag. They transferred me to some call center with no personality. When I told them in the office that the call center had rescheduled me they even made a rude comment about the call center. I had called the local number and they were the ones who transferred me to the call center so I dont know what their complaint was. Thank goodness I had my appointment first! When I went in, they took my weight and my blood pressure. Mind you I was just there for a routine cleaning and checkup. They couldnt figure out the blood pressure machine and tried it 3 times with no luck. Then they went to get another lady who was not real polite and she took it manually. I guarantee you she is not qualified to do the manual bp reading because she got an outrageous number which is not correct. I even checked it when I returned home and it was way off. Short and long of it, the dentist wouldnt even do xrays without a doctors consent saying I could be treated, what a waste of my time. I understand if they are going to give me medicine or do an extraction or something but this is ridiculous. Also, I had printed the forms for our entire family off their website and had them prepared when I got there, as they said to do when I made the appointment, then they said those were the wrong forms, that they had updated them in the last few days. They also wouldnt even look at my records from my dentist of 10 years saying they would know if I had fillings, etc. Yes, but you dont know my history and the records help, as do the xrays I just had done 6 months ago. I also asked them why it was so empty there when I had to wait so long for an appointment and she said that people cancel their appointments all the time, wonder why? Anyway, when I called another local dentist to make an appointment, she could get me in as soon as two days and she said she hears complaints on them all of the time.

I chose Kool Smiles because it was kid friendly and geared toward small children. When me, my mother, and my four year old daughter got there I had to speak to the receptionist she did not greet us. Then could not find our appointment. After 10 min of going over my info she finally found it. The waiting area was great. It kept my four year old occupied as we waited to be called back. When we got called back they took x rays. That was fine. The nighmare didnt happened until they started to do my daughters crown. They jabbed the needle in her gums about 8 times and didnt not warn her or explain what they were doing. Shes screaming and squirming so they put her on the board with the straps to hold her down. The dentist was digging and drilling in my daughter tooth very hard and she got more hysterical. Obviously the novacane didnt take or they waiting too long to do it. Because the dentist took to long after he stuck her gums with the novacane. What I found out after we left my mother told me they were hounding her and about paying them. Like we was going to leave without paying. Smh. And thats why the dentist took so long to come back in the room because he was waiting on the credit card confirmation. But thats fine. But he should have done that BEFORE he stuck my child in the gums if that was what he was worried about. The dentist was very rude. Didnt explain anything and mumbled under his breath a lot. Very unprofessional. Will not go back again. Wasnt satisfied at all.
