This place works with a rescue organization that I foster for, so points for that. My own pets go to another vet, the amazing Dr. Root in Goodlettsville. I dont have enough experience to fairly rate Animal Houses care, just dropped off/picked up for a fosters neuter that went fine, but that was enough to comment on the cleanliness. The place is filthy and smelled horribly, both in their slow pre-opening hour when I dropped off and in the busy afternoon. There was an open trash can in the waiting area that had tissues with poo on them, right next to the coffee station. Yum. Desk area was cluttered, floor and waiting furniture were both dirty. I get that vetting is a dirty business, but there are PLENTY of busy vet offices that are able to stay clean and professional. Coincidentally two of my pets had an appointment at Dr. Roots later the same day, and it was such a contrast to find immaculate floors, no smell, tidy desks. The aforementioned poo? Dr. Roots staff would have whisked that away immediately. Granted Im a stickler and keep a very clean house even with three dogs, but just like people, I think a businesss housekeeping is revealing of its inner workings. They need to create a culture of cleanliness here. Have a couple of staff members stay late once a week to clean. Or pay a service once a month or something. I wasnt looking for a new vet, but if I had been my experience would have deterred me from taking my pets here.

We brought in a stray cat we rescued who was pretty beat up, so they had to do some tests on it to see if it had feline aids. As soon as we said that he was a stray they started acting like he was already dead. They said we needed to buy a $5 carrier because we didnt have one, and that the test would take 10 minutes. About 20 minutes later a nurse came out and started talking to the receptionist that she wasnt sure about the test because it was a faint line, but that they were probably going to put hIm down, loud enough for us and our kids to hear. Then after the receptionist told her we were here and cared about the cat, she came over to talk to us about it. I asked about them doing another test since it was a faint line and she wasnt sure, and they refused saying they werent going to release him because he could spread it. All of us were really upset especially the kids. When I got home I looked it up on various websites so I could explain it to the kids, and what I saw is that they are supposed to do a diffrent secondary test to make sure it was positive, that cats with it can live and some times get rid of it. We were willing to take him in and care for him and instead they chose to kill him with the excuse that it could be painful and difficult for them to live, but I think thats better than killing him and erasing his potential to live a loved life.

Everyone was fairly friendly. However, my dog needed to have a tumor removed that was exposed through her skin. They quoted me almost $600 for additional services not needed. After going over the necessities of the procedure, the assistant explained they would be approximately $300. I am currently collecting unemployment while pursuing additional job training and I simply am unable to pay the amount in full. I offered to put down $200 (what little I had saved for an emergency) and make weekly payments on the additional $100. The answer was simply No, we dont take payments. Considering my unemployed status, I wont be eligible for Care Credit. I just cant believe animal lovers and caretakers would refuse a payment plan with a 66% down payment to treat an animal that has a bleeding and protruding tumor the size of a baseball. I am horribly disappointed. And to boot, I was charged $30 just for a quote, nothing else. Not even a nail trim or an offer to roll the quote price into the procedure cost. This is not a good way to obtain new clients, or to keep them, increasing the overall revenue over time. I am terribly upset about my dogs discomfort over the course of the next month as I save the additional $100 to proceed with the surgery. Id consider that cruel, especially when the real concern is obviously the lining in your pockets.

I would give this establishment zero stars if possible. I took my German shepard there to receive treatment for heartworms in late fall after receiving a positive test from my vet in my hometown. The staff there is completely unorganized and unprofressional. My husband and I were given a quote for the treatment of our dog at out initial meeting. When treatment began we ended up spending $400 more on the treatment because of a miscommunication with the veternarian and the front desk. Needless to say they were not willing to cover their mistake and we still had to fork over the money. The owner and the technicians argued and discussed the mistake in front of me. There seems to be a constant lack of communication as I always have to be put on hold or wait for these "discussions" to happen. Once the treatment was done I vowed never to return, however I needed to order heartworm preventative. I called 1-800-pet meds and they refused to authorized my order. UNETHICAL. When I called to ask why they had no valid reason other than they sold it there. They were trying to force me to pay for the perscription there. Please take your animal elsewhere. They are not as cheap as they claim to be, they are rude, unprofessional and unorganized. Who knows what they will do to your pet in the mixup!

Make sure and GET YOUR RECEIPT at time of service and review it to make sure you were charged correctly. We were overcharged in ERROR by the staff. being charged for a procedure we did NOT ask them to do. Was treated like a liar when asking for the $28 to be refunded. Have given Animal House referrals for over a decade for business for rescue animals and friends alike. Instead of using proper business practices when an error is made by their staff, am told by the Office Manager there will be NO reimbursement implying that they do not believe a customer for over ten years and Three owners. Pathetic. We ALWAYS PAY OUR BILLS. And now we are paying a bill per the Vets insistence. All we asked for was a "store credit" and it was denied with no explanation. Paid it and I assure you the $28 they got today will never be worth it in the long run. Should have walked away 4 years ago when the owner/vet told me that my great pyrennes was a "LEMON" and then laughed. After all, it was just a terminal tumor. Seriously? I have never forgotten Dr. Herds harsh words that fateful day. My beloved pet was a lemon. Should have realized then that things were not right.

I brought my cats here after already seeing another vet who tried to figure out why my cats were peeing everywhere and since they were fully emptying their bladder each time, the first vet said it probably wasnt a UTI and prescribed an antidepressant which helped but the just reduced the frequency of the peeing (but it was still happening, and we were at wits end). I got fed up when the first vet wanted to charge me for another full-price two-cat visit just to refill the antidepressant. I instead took the cats to Animal House where they charged me less than the first vet, did cystocentesis on each cat and determined that it was a UTI - so they both got antibiotics plus the amitryptilene, and the situation improved a lot. Animal House people were nice and were not unreasonable about costs/return visits/refills, where my patience was running thin. I do hope they will help us with an online order of flea/tick/heartworm medication since we need that now and would prefer not to make the trip all the way just for that.
