I originally tore my ACL and meniscus in 2008. Living in Houston at the time, I went to a renowned surgeon and he operated on my knee. I re-tore both ACL and meniscus a few months after being "cleared" by that doctor. Given his reputation, I foolishly returned for another surgery, only to tear it shortly after being "cleared" again. I left it alone for a while. I moved to Austin and found Dr. Burns. HE IS OUTSTANDING! I felt very comfortable with Dr. Burns from the start. He told me he could help me and boy did he ever. I had to have a surgery to correct the mistakes from the previous surgeon and then a second surgery three months later to correct the ACL and meniscus. Those were in 2015 (this review is long overdue). I have had no pain or issues with my knee since. Dr. Burns is a phenomenal surgeon. Hes kind, caring and honest. His PA, Mr. Gabriel Petty is just as nice and informative. They are a dream team. If youre in need of an orthopedic surgeon, do not hesitate to visit Dr. Burns and his team. They truly are phenomenal and I cant thank them enough for giving me the lifestyle I enjoy and had been missing for nearly a decade.

Dr. Thomas Burns has performed surgery on me 4 times--shoulders and knees. Each time, I have had good results. Dr. Burns is kind, thorough, and knowledgeable. I give Dr. Burns my highest and unqualified recommendation. Dr. Burns is a great doctor and a good person. On my first shoulder surgery, I went to see two different orthopedic surgeons in Austin before I went to see Dr. Burns. Both surgeons misdiagnosed me with a torn labrum. After a thorough physical exam, Dr. Burns correctly diagnosed me with an impingement. He performed surgery, and after suffering with shoulder pain for more than 2 years, I got well. Dr. Burns is the best of the best! Moreover, I have been an attorney in Austin for 24 years representing insurance companies and injured employees. In this capacity, I have had the opportunity to interact and work with many doctors. During the course of my practice, I have asked several doctors for their opinion of Dr. Burns. Each time, the doctor responded that they had a high opinion of Dr. Burns and that they would feel comfortable sending their family members to Dr. Burns or words to that effect.

Honestly, I cannot say more about Thomas Burns, MD and Gabriel Petty, PA. They are an exceptional team at Westlake Orthopedics and I recommend them unhesitatingly. I initially saw Gabriel in the office and his kind, thoughtful demeanor, combined with his superb clinical knowledge started me on the right track. He spend a lot of time with me explaining the anatomy of me knee problem and helped me develop a reconditioning program to get better without surgery. He cured me without shots or surgery! I was so impressed with him that I brought my son in with a throwing shoulder problem. I was seen by Dr. Burns on this visit and he is very down to earth and thorough. He showed us stretches and exercises that he could do on his own and coordinated a few visits with a sports therapist to help us get better in time for baseball tryouts. Amazing! Those two gentlemen are the best in Austin - hands down! Any sports injury, broken bone, joint pain issue or just for piece of mind from a possible sprained ankle - these are the guys to see. Highly recommended!!!

Dr Burns is attentive, thoughtful and caring. I am in need of a total shoulder replacement and I appreciate his conservative approach.
