In our 2nd year of going here. High marks for Drs. Fadel and Haselhorst. Both are very professional, personable and patient. The staff is also excellent. We are very happy with the care received. Would have given 5 stars if it were not for the questionable practices regarding patients rights to their own prescriptions. We requested the prescription and were told we wouldnt get it, then that we would get it at a follow-up appointment. When I insisted, they spent 15 minutes "consulting with the doctor" and then provided an incorrect prescription. I called the next day to clarify and they admitted to the mistake and emailed the corrected prescription. I was up front about ordering contacts online and offered them the opportunity to compete on price. All things being equal, I would rather buy local (just not at twice the cost). The 2003 Fairness to Contact Lens Consumers Act requires that they provide the prescription for free whether requested by the patient or not. It also provides several other protections. Were they unethical? Probably not, but they did not adhere to federal laws except at my insistance, which is technically an FTC infraction. Probably the same practices at 90% of other optomotrists in town, so we will likely continue to use them. Im just tired of the sorts of practices commonly employed by optomotrists, mechanics, dentists, physicians, etc. sweetening their profits by ripping off their clients. Somehow I have this nieve notion that they should put the best interest of their customers first. All OK if you just stick up for your rights as a patient.

I dont do many reviews at all and here I am giving a review of an optometrist. Yes, it was that good. So, I am getting older and I am finally in need of glasses. I have never had them before so I am not familiar with how all this works. I went to an optometrist close to my house for convience because they are all the same. Same test, here is your prescription, go get glasses. WRONG! I wont go into details but this this guy was from the dark ages. The only computer was at the front desk. Wrong prescription, $425 on glasses that I couldnt wear. So, I wanted to make things easy. I went to place next door to glasses place. Lazy. It was Dr. Fadel. WOW!!! Lots of GREAT technology. He took a lot of time with the tests and made sure everything was PERFECT! I even got to see a digital image of the inside of my eye. Very cool! He chuckled a little when I told him about my past experience and promised that would not happen with him. He promised I would would be happy when I left. He was wrong. I was THRILLED!!!! The front office staff was super nice and very attentive. I wish I could remember the name of the lady who did my initial exam stuff because she was fantastic. Ok, Im done raving. I just had such a bad experience before that to walk into an office like this and be treated the way I was was completely unexpected. I have a new optometrist.

I cant say enough good things about Arboretum Eye Pros and Dr. Fadel. I had been going to another optometrist (who shall remain nameless) for several years, and they were OK...but why settle for just OK? Now that Ive found Dr. Fadel, Ill never leave! Ive worn glasses and/or contacts for about 20 years. I was used to the same old "eye doctor routine" and when I went in to see Dr. Fadel, I could tell this experience would be different. Everyone, from the receptionists to the doctor himself, was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. His team of doctors (Ive seen two others in his practice as well) are wonderful, too. I feel at ease and valued as a patient at every single visit. I decided I wanted to see if LASIK was an option for me, and Dr. Fadel did a thorough exam before referring me to Austins best surgeon (but thats another review in itself!). Dr. Fadel has made more than one phone call directly to me to check on me and make sure Im healing from my LASIK procedure. He really and truly cares about his patients and takes time out of his busy schedule to make sure they know it. If I seem overly enthusiastic about an eye doctor - its because I am! If youre looking for a new optometrist - or even if you arent - GO SEE DR. FADEL!!!

I went to get contacts the second time but they didnt document the prescription, so the guy spent almost half an hour fumbling about trying to find out what contacts I had the first time. Finally, after the staff consulted with the optometrist Erik, they gave me contacts that were different from the first time I went there. After struggling to put the new contacts in, and finally getting them on, Dr. Schutte was not available, so instead i was hurried to Dr. Erik and he checked the placement of my contacts, dismissed my complaint that one of the contacts was burning and causing pain and was out of focus as something that was normal, and quickly dismissed me. I got the feeling that Dr. Schutte and Dr. Erik just dont care and wanted to quickly dismiss me so that they could charge me and get rid of me as quickly as possible. It seems like I was inconveniencing them. After weeks of attempting to put the new contacts in, I have relatively to little or no success, the few times i do get one on it causes a lot of pain i have to quickly take it out.

The Arboretum is a Simon property and the precursor to The Domain. Although parking can be tricky at times, it truly is one of the first "pedestrian" malls in Austin. There are some anchor stores that are corporate (think Barnes and Noble, Cheesecake Factory) but these big stores let small gems like Con Olio and Heroes and Legacies thrive. The restaurant selection ranges from Brazilian steakhouse to Cheescake Factory to Blue Baker. You should not forget that this is a destination location and the "Arboretum" is not only a place but also an "area". Right across the street are some of the best happy hours in AUstin. Want a view of a canyon next to a fireplace? Z Tejas at the Arboretum. It also features Eddie Vs which is always stellar. The service at most stores understands its demographics and service and selection are of a quality to match. Dont expect Austin kitch. Expect Clean, upscale, attentive stores. Great place to spend an afternoon or just pop in to one of the specialty shops.

Tl;dr Spent a long time waiting. They tried to steal my SSN. Over priced contacts. Paperwork superfluous. Even with four staff members to two patients, it still took them forty five minutes to give me a five minute exam resulting in "nothings changed." Apparently paperwork was just to fill up all that waiting time because I was asked the exact same questions again out loud by an assistant who write down the answers. The staff also kept hounding me for my social security number, for "insurance reasons," even though I gave them all the information they needed. Their price for a box of air optix night and day contacts is an appalling $70, when they were priced at $45/box less than half a mile away. The only reason I bought my contacts here was because they take my insurance. Of course, it took them 25 minutes to reach behind the counter, give me my contacts, and charge me what my insurance didnt cover.
