I cant say enough good things about this physical therapy office. After suffering a serious skiing accident last March in Italy that left me with a shoulder that was fractured in three places, I received surgery in Italy and returned to the U.S. 10 days later. Unfortunately, the Italian surgery was improperly done and had to be completely redone 3 months later back here in Washington, DC. The good news was that I was very lucky to find an excellent surgeon who was able to successfully correct the problems from the first surgery and give me a functioning shoulder AND to work with a well trained and competent physical therapist like Colin Flanagan at Solutions Physical Therapy. I first started working with Colin in the interim 3 month period between my first and second surgeries where he worked to keep my shoulder moving and from tightening up by using passive stretching and limited movements. Recognizing the limitations of what my shoulder could physically handle until it could be properly repaired, Colin carefully customized a therapy protocol for me that balanced the need to keep my shoulder active, but not incur any further damage in the interim period before my next surgery. After the second surgery, Colin again carefully assessed my complicated recovery situation and developed a therapy plan that has successfully over the past 6 months given me the use of my right shoulder again! Because of the damage and bone loss incurred from the poor first surgery, my shoulder was extremely fragile. But at the same time, the ligaments, tendons and muscles all needed to be kept moving to prevent tightening and stiffening. Thanks to Colins excellent professional skills as a therapist and his overall sense of commitment and care for his patients, Colin was not in the least bit deterred or concerned about the challenges my recovery posed. Always confident in his knowledge and abilities, he constantly boosted my morale and just as he predicted, he has gradually gotten my shoulders flexibility and strength almost back to normal. Using a combination of passive stretches, shoulder massage, and resistance bands and weights which he added as my shoulder healed and grew stronger, I have gone from hardly being able to move my shoulder and not lifting anything to being able to again reach over my head into cabinets, using my hair dryer, and carrying groceries. I have even started riding my bike and going to yoga classes again! I absolutely credit Colin with the success of my recovery and would highly recommend him to anyone. He not only knows what he is doing, but always has an uplifting and positive attitude. I also want to mention that besides Colin, the other staff, both the supporting technical people who work with patients on the exercise protocols and the administrative folks are all equally good at their jobs and wonderful to work with. I have complete trust in this organization and their commitment and competence to helping people with often very difficult and debilitating physical conditions.

I tore both my ACL and my MCL in a mixed martial arts training accident. I had surgery to repair both at the same time, and started physical therapy at Solutions Physical Therapy three days after the surgery. This was my first experience rehabbing from a serious injury, and I wasnt totally sure what to expect going in. I had heard stories about how difficult or painful it was, both mentally and physically, and was prepared for an unpleasant couple of months. The reality of my experience at Solutions could not be further from that. My primary physical therapist at Solutions was Lauren Simpkins. I found her to be very knowledgeable and personable. She tailored my physical therapy program to me and my goals. Each appointment presented me with exercises and movements that were within my capability, but also gave me the opportunity to push myself. I was also provided with a very clear and challenging yet achievable plan of action for what to do outside of my physical therapy appointments. As a result, I felt like every single day my knee felt better than the day before. At no point did I feel like I was stagnating or plateauing in my recovery, and Laurens course of action is to thank for this. I also had the opportunity to work with Vicki Porter in the rare instance that Lauren wasnt available at my preferred appointment time. Vicki communicated with Lauren so that my progression was consistent and I found her, like Lauren, to be incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. Vicki had a similar injury and surgery to the one that I had so she had good insight into some of the experiences I was having. During the appointments, Gina, Alan, and Megan assisted Lauren and Vicki and helped ensure I was doing the exercises properly and safely. From the front desk staff, to the physical therapists and techs, everyone at Solutions worked together very well to ensure my recovery was efficient and enjoyable. In less than four months from my surgery, Im already back to boxing, and I feel like I could do more if my doctor would let me. My training partners, coaches, and friends are all amazed at how quickly Ive recovered thus far. More importantly, at each follow-up appointment with my surgeon, he has expressed how great my recovery seems to be going, and is very impressed with how quickly Solutions has gotten me back in to fighting shape. Ive gone to physical therapy three times a week for a number of months, and contrary to what I was expecting going in, the appointments are the highlights of my week. Im nearing the home-stretch of my recovery and Im actually dreading the thought of not getting to come to Solutions regularly.

It gives me great pleasure to write this review for the outstanding performance and customer service provided by “Solutions Physical Therapy”. Solutions is owned/operated by a husband and wife team, Christina and Andy, with a wonderful supporting staff. Hopefully, joining "Google +" will finally get this review posted Back in my younger athletic days, I have seen many Physical Therapists (PT). Some were okay at best. On March 12, 2012, I had a two level Artificial Cervical Disc Replacement (ADR). Several weeks later, I was given a prescription for PT. Unable to drive for upcoming weeks, I walked around and visited several PTs in hope to find one with ADR experience. Most lacked equipment and none had ADR experience. When I arrived at Solutions, the receptionist was very friendly and helpful, but the staff was at a meeting. I looked around and was impressed with the equipment and called later for an appointment. I spoke to Andy and, in a honest/professional manner; he told me that they had not worked with patients with ADRs. He explained that I would have a hard time finding anyone in the area because ADR is a newer technology. Well, I scheduled an appointment and later called my surgeon’s office to explain the situation. My surgeon’s nurse informed me that there should be no problem as long as the PT is properly certified. On April 10, 2012, I met with Christina. Being very concerned, I brought X-Rays, doctor’s notes along with the product description of the ProDisc-C. I believe we talked for at least 20 minutes in which she was very attentive. She was confident that she could handle my treatments needs, but also asked for my surgeon/nurse contact info in case she had any questions. Since that time, she has always been attentive and communicative with any concerns I may have. I have just finished my 7th visit with her and simply amazed with the results. As I stated before, I have been to many PTs before. As I am there, I also watch their techniques with other patients and “Solutions” is extremely experienced with all the equipment to do the job. They know what they are doing and are the best I have ever seen. I highly recommend “Solutions Physical Therapy” for any physical therapy needs. Just make sure you do all your assigned exercises outside of your sessions. Thank you and all the wonderful staff!! "JJ", Old Town
