We started going to Burke Animal Clinic when our vet of 30+ years (with 2 cats and 2 dogs) thought it was funny that our 6 yr old, rescue German Shepherd had torn his ACL and wed have to spend $2300 for surgery. Not to mention the many weeks of post surgery pain, crating and rehab for our poor limping dog. When I asked if there were any alternatives to surgery I was promptly told none that work. I started researching and found out there are alternatives to surgery and in fact, I was lucky enough to come across Dr. Herrity at the Burke Animal Clinic. Dr. Herrity uses various new technologies to assist in the healing process of certain injuries. Dr. Herrity has gone the extra thousand miles in companion pet care. He is constantly educating himself on healthier and more efficient ways to help heal our pets and keep them healthy. But the great news doesnt stop there! All the doctors, vet techs and staff at Burke Animal Clinic are exceptional. The atmosphere in the lobby is calm and friendly. Our dogs actually enjoy going to the vet! Harry, one of our German Shepherds, avoided surgery as he received VOM and laser treatments on a regular basis from Dr. Herrity. We followed his instructions for home care carefully and at the one year mark Harry was running and playing around like a puppy. During the process of treatments, Harry learned to trust his doctor not fear him. About 2 weeks ago, Harry was running around our huge back yard and came in with a bleeding leg. Of course it was Saturday and Dr. Herrity wasnt there. We brought him to the clinic and Dr. Colvin was there to take care of him. Harry had never met Dr. Colvin before so we were a little nervous as to how this would all go down. Keep in mind that Harry is an 84 pound, 8 year old German Shepherd rescue. He can be very intimidating to work on, hes not your cute little lap puppy, or your adorable, friendly Golden. Dr. Colvin saw him right away.....he was very calm, confident and gentle and Harry picked this up immediately. He let the Dr. examine his wound, clean it and bandage it with no struggle. We had to return to get the bandage changed etc. every couple days for 14 days. This went very smoothly and Harrys once again in fine shape. One of the most amazing things to me about this clinic is the caring doctors. Its not just one or two that are great, its ALL of them. These people truly care about animals, they are gentle, kind and patient. They never rush through an exam and are more than ready to discuss anything. Our dogs were severely abused as puppies. They are both rescues and have serious trust issues with humans. They are not the easiest dogs to help......... they are huge masses of muscle and teeth. Yet they both are extremely happy to come to Burke Animal Clinic even if it means a shot, a bandage change or just an exam. When they are in the lobby, they are excited to see the doctor and the vet techs. From the human side of it all, the doctors, techs and office staff are friendly, respectful and efficient. Their prices are not the lowest or the highest, we live in an expensive area, we cant expect their prices to be below average when they are providing exceptional care. They offer alternative medicine with state of the art technology and expertise, that takes time, money and dedication. We are so happy to have found Burke Animal Clinic and were grateful to all the vets, vet techs and staff that work there!

My family used this veterinary clinic for about half a year after feeling overcharged at our previous. While their prices were very slightly less, we ended up having to go three times as often because the doctor we were seeing was unable to figure out what was wrong with one of our dogs for two different medical issues. We went about 7 different times and were charged $75 dollars for each visit, even if we saw the doctor for two minutes and we were charged $300 for xrays which our dog didnt need. Dr. Johnson never seemed like she could focus on what I was saying and even made me come back three times for one issue before finally realizing that I was telling her a piece of key information about the problem over and over and finally gave us medication to fix it. I was charged $75 for each visit, of course and scolded for not potty training my dog effectively when it turned out that she was incontinent the whole time and it wasnt my fault. I had to constantly correct Dr. Johnson so that we were on the same page. I even saw a mistake in the report that my dog had a bad reaction to one of her medications, she had written in the wrong medication entirely. She failed to diagnose my dog with a heart murmur AND an intestinal parasite, which I just learned that she has. I was also given antibiotics which were two different dosages (I presume accidentally) which completely ruined their effectiveness and I had to start on a new course when I began going to our new vet. While everyone seems nice enough at Burke Animal Clinic, Im not made of money and the obvious mistakes that have been made are too alarming to continue trusting our animals in their care. I have no experience with any of the other veterinarians at the clinic, but I switched to Banfield and Im much happier there.

BURKE ANIMAL CLINIC RIPOFF....Grossly Over Priced. I have been going to Burke Animal Clinic for 23 years, my cat Follow, has been a patient for 20 years and is now at the end of his life, he is not eating and has lost lots of weight. I took him to the clinic about 3 weeks ago and was told that he is getting close to the end and that hes just old, paid $269 for visit that included and few blood tests. Today, I called to ask about getting him euthanized, was told that the base price is $131 and that there would be some extra cost options. I was aghast at the cost, I had a long conversation with the front desk (Liz) and tried to find out why they were trying to take advantage of the situation, to no avail. I made one phone call to a random other vet found through Google search in Burke, Companion Animal Clinic on Clara Barton, I have never been a patient and just asked them how much for a cat euthanasia, they told me $91, I asked about the procedure and was assured that it was exactly the same as what Burke Animal Clinic does....I will never go back to Burke Animal Clinic, they are RIPOFF artists and grossly over charge....just shop their price on spay and neutering or anything else and you will find they charge more than every other vet in Burke area....Potomac Spay and Neuter in Manassas is the very cheapest for Spay etc. $125 for a dog Neuter....half cost for Rabies and other shots. Dont get ripped off for a vet, shop around you will be happy you did.

Burke Animal clinic is by far the best clinic I have ever used. We started going to Burke a few years ago after our dog managed to tear both of his ACLs at the same time. Not wanting to do surgery, we were looking for alternative options. Without going into too many details, Dr. Herrity and Burke were able to use a cold laser procedure which completely healed my dog; the process was less expensive, less invasive, and extremely successful. Since that time, we continued using Burke as our go-to clinic, despite living in Arlington. Each time we had an appointment, Id ask myself why I was driving all the way out to Burke, when there are other clinics much closer. And each time on my way home from the clinic, I felt that the drive (and traffic) was worth it. The clinic staff was compassionate, knowledgeable, and accessible. The vets were great and we really appreciated their general philosophy towards medicine - which prioritized quality of life, embraced alternative medicine where appropriate, and aimed to minimize complicated and costly interventions. Unfortunately, we recently had to put our dog down after a short and challenging battle with cancer. Through the process, Burke staff was amazing. They got us in for appointments when needed, followed up with "check in" phone calls, and even took the time to send us flowers and a card the day after we had to put our dog down. I simply couldnt have asked for more.
