My family and I went to Charlottesville Dental Care for a year - five cleanings in total while we were under the impression we were being covered by our insurance. We werent... which contradicts what we were told, but ultimately falls on us to double check. However, instead of bringing it to our attention, we were encouraged to keep coming in and making appointments. Then, nearly a full year after our original appointment, we were sent a bill for almost $1k - the full balance of all of our appointments. I feel like it should go without saying, but if we were informed one, two, even three months after our first appointment that there was a problem with our insurance, or a balance due, then we would have never made subsequent appointments. Sure, it would have been painful getting that first bill and realizing that Dr. Alcorn was not a "preferred" provider for our insurance, but it would have been a fraction of the cost & stress that came after nearly a year of appointments. Things only got worse after receiving the bill. I left voicemails and requests to speak with someone and never received a call back. When I was able to speak to someone I would be promised that it was being looked into and someone would get back to me - they never did. In the end we requested to speak directly to Dr. Alcorn through her front desk staff and also by email. She never returned our call or emails. My advice, unless you are one of the lucky few that never has medical billing/insurance issues, steer clear of Charlottesville Dental Care due to the total lack of customer service and professionalism from the top down.

I give Dr. Alcorn five stars. I have been to her the past and have always appreciated her candor and caring. I now live in another state and see another dentist there, but recently I was in danger of losing a tooth (two dentists in this state told me) and I chose to drive eight hours to get back to Dr. Alcorn, simply because I consider her opinion the last word. Not only did she give me the most honest and straightforward judgment possible, but once she deemed the tooth worth saving she worked aggressively to save it. Im still chewing on it, and I would probably cross a couple of oceans to get to Dr. Alcorn if I had to. Anyone who lives in the Charlottesville area is lucky to have her within an easy drive.

What sets Dr. Alcorn and her staff apart is their willingness to keep their patients informed. They will always take the time to explain whats going on and what your options are as a patient. They have a no-nonsense approach to their job. I have always felt very comfortable with Dr. Alcorns recommendations for my dental care. I have moved away from the area and unfortunately can no longer see Dr. Alcorn, but I still seek her opinions from time to time.

The staff was nice, the Doctor was nice but did surgery to remove a tooth and hurt my jaw and my ear. The pain was horrible and she wasnt comfortable giving meds... Ok i understand that but 2 weeks in more pain than I was in before I went to her wasnt comfortable to me either! Suggestion, dont have teeth removed or cut out if you dont like or can tolerate pain.
