*5 stars. Totally worth the drive from Naval Base area!* I came to Barker Animal Hospital after a not so good experience with Healing with Heart (my issue with them was resolved but my kitty is still in pain & limps) I had a bitter taste from my past experience and Dr.Barker completely changed my outlook. She is very knowledgeable, knows how to handle my cat & dog when they are fussy or scared, she is very sweet & compassionate. Importantly, she asks questions to personally get to know what kind of pet they are. The staff are great & very friendly. Always call you back after your appointment to make sure things are ok. They give lots of treats & loving rubs. The only con is the waiting room. It has plenty of space but not much privacy blinders/walls for dogs who like to confront other dogs by barking and jumping (like mine) LOL Pet plans are a reasonable price. Location is a bit far since I live by NOB but it is worth it to see my pets well taken care of. Building is brand new & always clean. Thank you Dr.Barker & staff! You guys are awesome.

Dr. Barker and her team are amazing! I recently adopted a new dog and she was having a lot of stomach issues. The former vet the rescue was sending me to was doing nothing to settle the problem. When we decided to go see Dr. Barker for a second opinion she was so sweet to my puppy. Her whole team is inviting and makes you feel comfortable from the moment you walk in the front door. From the receptionist all the way to the Vet herself and all the techs thank you for everything you have done for my new four-legged baby. She is doing so much better and its all because of you!! I highly recommend everyone take their animals to Dr. Barker and her team of amazing techs!!

By far the best animal hospital in Chesapeake! I recently moved from overseas back to the U.S. and have been searching for a vet that I like. I had gone to four others in Chesapeake and was not satisfied. After getting turned away from my previous vet (because they were "booked for the day") when my pug was very ill, I called Barker. They told me to come in immediately and saw her right away. From the second I walked in they were nothing short of amazing. I thank God that I went to Barker Animal Hospital and would recommend it to anyone and everyone looking for top notch care!

Great new practice in Chesapeake. The initial office visits for my cats was awesome - both of my cats are older and the staff absoutly loved them. I switched vets, and they handled everything from getting their files to setting up there quick office visits. One of my cats needed surgery for a growth removal which went off without a hitch, and they called within 24 hour to check on her! The staff is wonderful, friendly and professional. I would recommend them to all of my pet lover friends. Mary

i cannot stress how much I love this place! 1) the building is brand new and super clean! 2) the staff is amazing! Very friendly, super knowledgeable.. and you can tell they really care about each pet! 3) they are extremely helpful! My dog suffered a pretty extensive wound on his leg, and we were there several times a week for about a month. And now continue to go 1 time a week. They are by far the best vet we have ever been too. We will continue to use their services!

They really make you feel like youre not just a number. Dr. Barker called me when they were closed just to give me an update on my dog. Theres also a monthly option for a wellness plan which can save you a lot of money over over time!
