weve been taking our dogs here for 3 years. There are good doctors and bad doctors. I love hollstrom, and he is compassionate and knowledgeable.Gerlach, however, should be avoided at all costs. Our neighbors had 2 cats. on the first visit gerlach told them that his hernia was fine. never did vaccinations or the normal kitty tests for aids and leuk. kitty was seen on an emergency basis when we were babysitting for a head injury from a bite from an unknown animal...with no rabies vaccination. kitty was sent home to us the next day...no quarantine. kitty was returned following day for excessive bleeding. sent home again, no quarantine, the following monday. they finally went in to get her vaccinated and the tests were performed. kitty was positive for leukemia. gerlach told them he would be fine as long as they kept her inside. they had another cat at home. we waved them off and said should be fine. we separated them anyway. good thing because the other cat was negative. this all took place in less than a 3 month period of time. kitty is now dead. other vets have stated that hernia should have been fixed, quarantine procedures should have been followed, and you dont send a positive cat to hang out with their negative friends. have not had problems with the rest of the clinic and in fact really respect dr hollstrom. however, gerlachs handling of this situation makes me question his professionalism, his concern for pet health, and his concern for the human emotion that goes into it. my dog loves to go...but he shakes and quivers whenever gerlach is near. perhaps this is one doc that should consider retirement. take your pets if you wish, just choose your doc wisely. yes, we pay more for the meds there than we can get them at other places and their office visit is more expensive. yet i find dr hollstrom and his ability to care for my pups difficult health issues worth the price.

So I had my first visit here today with my sick dog and here is what I got from today. They was the only clinic that was able to get us in today even with me only calling for the first time this morning which was good especially for a new client and the front desk staff was friendly but while trying to find out what was wrong with my dog I found myself paying $175 and still not sure what is wrong with him. First they was saying he "may have" an infection so they are gonna give him 2 different antibiotics "just in case" and also told me he will continue to have other health problems until I get him fixed which they wanted another $250 for. Obvisiously I didnt get him fixed today since they dont do payments, the entire bill must be paid before you can take your pet home. And with the fact I still dont know whats wrong with him and already paid them $175 just to guess at it was enough. I paid for them to do a urine test and xrays to find out why he is only peeing blood and the only thing they had to say was they want to see if he will respond to antibiotics and if he does then he had an infection but if not bring him back and they will do an ultrasound on his belly?? with a urine test & xray that should have told them if it was an infection or if there was something else going on. I really dont feel comfortable giving my dog meds that he may or may not need just to see if it works?! I want to know for sure whats wrong not a guess and see what happens type thing. the urine test alone should have showed if there was an infection or not which makes me wonder what they even did. The fact that I came out of there paying $175 and not feel better only more concerned that whatever it is may get worse just disturbs me!! They spent more time talking about getting him fixed then they did on the problem we was there for to begin with! Needless to say I will be going elsewhere next time...

The staff that works the counter are really nice and friendly and like dogs. My experiences with Dog and Cat Hospital is that you need to wait a long time to be seen. They also do a lot of procedures in the back, so even though you are in the exam room, your pet is in the back. I have never been to a vet that didnt draw blood or get stool samples in front of the owner. It sent a level of distrust to me. Their prices are high and Im upset that you need to pay $12 for a nail clipping even though you are paying $45 for an office visit (outside of an office visit, $12 is acceptable). Vets doing nail clippings should be complementary. I also feel as though the vets "up-sell" services." The last vet my dog saw told me that my dog had a heart murmur (something that my former vet never mentioned). They wanted me to get a chest xray which would have been over $100. My background is in medicine and I felt comfortable declining this, but not everyone would and I felt as though they were trying to take advantage of me. My biggest complaint with Dog and Cat is that they have no after hours answering service. I knew that going in and didnt think it would be a problem till I needed them at 8:30 pm and had to call another vet hospital. Overall, I am not impressed with vet hospital and will not be taking my dog back.

Seems many of the dogs there, including mine suffer from chronic ear infections. They do whatever they can to keep you coming back. They were always late for my appointment. Its not unusual to have to wait over an hour. Everytime I do there seems to be many dogs there with chronic ear infections waiting to be seen. Seems this is where they get a good portion of their business. I have looked up the medication they have given me and its not the medication listed to best treat the bacteria that was found in the lab test they made me pay for. Then they never seem to want to give the correct amount that is needed to kill the bacteria. Its always a couple drops in the ear instead of enough to coat the entire ear canal and the outside flap. After going to them for a year I tried another vet when I was on vacation and in 2 visits the ear infection was gone and now 8 months later it has never come back.

We had our first experience with Dog and Cat Hospital today, and the service was absolutely wonderful! We are currently fostering a 9 year old Pitt who is recovering from his last vet visit in his home town; we called Dog and Cat a week later (on Presidents Day!) with concerns about his stitches, and the receptionist agreed to see him immediately. Despite the hustle and bustle that is guaranteed to follow on a national holiday, we were helped quickly, and with nothing but absolute patience and respect. The female veterinarian treated our 9 year old Pit Bull like a prince, explained his conditions, and answered ALL of our questions. Thank you Dog and Cat Hospital for a wonderful experience; you will continue to receive our business!
