For my daughters yearly eye exam, the optometrist told me she needed to go to a specialist. The optometrist said that she had amblyopia and she needed help. Of course, I researched this and there was a lot of scary articles and implications out there for my 6 year old girl. The worst outcome for me would have been eye surgery for her, which no parent would want for their child. I went to Dr. Westcott and he explained that he would be able to help with eye exercises and regular monitoring. His staff was kind, knowledgable and great at their jobs. They gave my daughter exercises to strengthen her eyes and to work on her tracing and depth perception. Dr. Westcott helped my daughter tremendously. She went there with 20/40 in her right eye and 20/35 in her left, corrected with glasses. Now she has 20/30 in both eyes. She also had trouble with tracking objects and even words across the page. Her depth perception also improved (which I didnt even know was a problem). On top of that, he cured her amblyopia and was able to REDUCE her perscription!!! The optometrist that she saw a little more than a year previously was absolutely stunned by her progress. This was all without the fear of surgery that could result from patching her one eye for long periods of time. I recommend Dr. Westcott and his team for anyones eyes, especially your childs. It can be scary when dealing with these issues, but their team can really help.

I knew there was something wrong with my sons eyes, and when I was brushed off by his eye care provider, I called a friend whos daughter had significant vision problems treated by Dr. Westcott and staff. From my first hesitant phone call I was met with kindness, information, and expertise. My son had amblyopia as well as very poor acuity and a multitude of other issues. We recently graduated from weekly therapy and I cant describe the difference, not just with his vision, but in the entire child. He can see, he can read, he does jigsaw puzzles, he can walk on curbs, he can ride a bike. Moreover, he has learned that he had a problem but that with hard work and determination he fixed it. He is fearless now. The staff here is the perfect mix of personal and professional. They know us, they care about us, not just as a patient, but our whole family. If you even think that your child or other family member has vision problems, or if they have learning challenges that you cant find another source for, go ahead and make an appointment. I can confidently say that my sons life and future was changed by our time with Developmental Vision Care.

Schools are not set up (or ready) to address vision issues that can easily be identified and addressed. I wish we hadnt found out so late....but I am so thankful for Dr. Westcott and all of the amazing staff at Developmental Vision Care!
