The reason for the middle review is based on two separate visits. The first visit I had was horrible. I waited a long time to be seen then spent hours in the back for the doctor told me the emergency room was not the place to be for my stomach pain. (I have Crohns disease and had my large intestine removed and a blockage so I have to be careful. She gave me 1 pain pill to take before release. Pills can take 1 to 2 hours to see if it actually help reduce the pain. I will travel to Hampton Sentara Careplex the next time I have pain that may be related to either a blockage or a flare of my Crohns as they take it seriously and also provides nausea and pain med via IV to try to make you comfortable and does a better job making sure it isnt an issue that requires immediate attention. I live less than 5 minutes from Mary Immaculate. The second review was a much better experience. I had chest pain that was still present after a few hours. When I went in and they asked about why I needed to be seen; the moment I said chest pain I was immediately put in a wheel chair, skipping registration, and taken to a room where the doctor and several nurses came running and did an EKG. Once they determined I was not in immediate danger I was given a blood thinner in case it was a blood clot as I had surgery less than a week before and then blood test and a CT scan were ordered. My blood test showed my cardiac enzymes were high so I was admitted and everything was explained to me. The next day I was given a stress test and my blood checked several more times before returning to normal with directions to follow up with my family doctor as they had scheduled my follow up for me. He sent me to a specialist where I have more test scheduled. The immediate attention provided stood out and helped to ensure that it did not get worse. This visit impressed me as I could tell they truly cared. I was even visited by a staff member to make sure I had no concerns with my treatment plan. I have seen other hospitals let patients with chest pain sitting and waiting for hours. This second visit put me in the middle as 1st visit would be zero anf this last visit was top notch.

I gave birth here 3 months ago. The nurses were wonderful during labor. After labor, some of the nurses made me feel stupid for asking questions as a new mom... That was really frustrating ... The lady who did my sons birth certificate woke me and my boyfriend up at 2am as well. I got minimal sleep and really wasnt in the mood to be woken up. The Bella baby photographer came in before we left stating the hospital does a free photography newborn session, so we said "why not." When she showed us the photos, she started talking about packages being 120$... I said no thank you, we just had a baby and dont have money, you said it was free... My smartphone takes just as good of pictures... She got really pushy and upset... They dont have bottled water, or juice, only sodas and crackers in their snack room. If you want juice you need to order it. Really, I loved everyone there during labor, but afterwards, most of the staff there made me feel stupid for asking questions, (except the women in the nursery!), they were all very impatient (I had just had a baby... I mean, seriously.), they told us a lot of important information at 4am when I was exhausted so I didnt remember any of it, which in turn made me look even more stupid later. As a new mom, the staff here really hurt my first few days with my son.... I will not be going back here for any future births, and I suggest first time moms to find a hospital with staff who are better trained to be patient with an exhausted mom...

I am very disappointed in this hospital. I am 31 weeks pregnant and went there with excessive vomiting and increased pressure in my pelvic and abdominal region and increase in discharge that was not my normal. My baby was not moving as normal, his movements had slowed. All I got was IV fluids, an anti nausea medication and hooked to a prenatal heart monitor and contraction detector. Not once! NOT EVEN ONCE!!! Did a doctor come in to talk with me or to check my cervix! Instead I got a nurse who talk to me about ligament stretching and weighing a belt to help with it. Like I am stupid and this is my first pregnancy. The pressure in my pelvic region never went away and I told the nurse that 5 different times. The only improvement was my nausea. The care here is ridiculous and I will NEVER recommmend this hospital or set foot in there again. I was completely just tossed aside! Thankfully I went and got a second opinion after leaving there and was taken much better care of and the increased pressure stopped. I had to go to Williamsburg to get decent care but it was worth it.

I went visiting my mother just recently at Mary Immaculate Hospital. She was admitted for flu like symptoms. As me and my son were in the room talking to her we heard some arguing in the hall way. So I went to take a look it was a gentle man I think he was Latino with look like dark glasses in scups cursing out a Caucasian ladie and all I kept hearing was and I quote " you "B” I’m not staying I have to pick my son up and its Friday you "B" I’m going home "F" you and this hospital!" I hurried up and shut the door as he walked by. Later nurse Jennifer came in to take my mother’s temperature and check her IV so I asked her who was the genital man using that foul language and she said it was a Velez a Marc Velez and he was a surgical tech and that he always swears like that and is always arguing with his supervisors. I thanked her she was very good to my mother but please be aware that if you have children watch out for the language in that hospital. They treated my mother well I just felt bad she had to hear that and my son. That was a disgrace!!!

First off, Id like to say that this hospital is beyond awesome. The staff was great, and extremely helpful. Only reason I gave 4 stars is for small reasons. Firstly, sleeping accommodations for visitors, or dads after the baby comes, are absolutely awful. I love that they have something for us, but its not much at all. Secondly, the food situation is the worst. We came on a Saturday morning, and of course with it being early, I get hungry while were waiting for the baby to come. I go to the cafeteria just after they close, and go figure, they make it so that Subway is closed on the weekends because it "hurts the cafeterias business." So if you need to come here for an extended stay, make sure you enjoy vending machine food, waiting for hours to eat, or having to fight Jefferson traffic. Sorry for the rant, but it just seems ridiculous that theres very little choice on food here. Again I do say, the hospital and staff is beyond amazing, which is what matters, the food and sleeping situation is terrible though.
