I was a patient at this facility today,12/19/2011. I was brought into the ER via ambulance. The guys on the ambulance were wonderful, they made me feel like they really did care if I was in pain or not. Then i was taken to a room and the first nurse was really nice and acted like she cared. She asked all the right questions and so fourth. Then I was taken down to get an MRI and the ladies down there were no more than wonderful. Very nice ladies...thank you. After five hours of attempting to get a good MRI reading, I was taken back to my room. Then the Dr. came in and updated us up on everything that he was trying to do...liked him too...he was doing all that he could. He even gave recommendations on who i could see. Then about two hours later in walks a hospital "specialist" to decide weather or not meet the criteria to be admitted tonight. She asked all these questions but never really said anything....just looked at me with some kinda smirk...like really???? So she left and said ill be back Im going to go get a second opinion....2 hours later i hear nothing until I call for a nurse to find out what is going on. She says "OH" shes gonna send you home....ok Ive been here for 13 hours now...still cant walk...and have no real answers except call this # in the morning, you need PT(physical therapy). Really I cant even walk, how am i supposed to do PT. And these people at this # dont know me from Adam... So the nurse comes back with some hard wheelchair and takes me to the waiting room (not out to the car that is parked at the sliding door) So i try to slowly walk to the car and the nurse is nowhere to be found. She just left me there to attempt to get to the car. Really????? So pretty much i have wasted a 13 hour day and lots of $$$$ for me to go home in the same pain and predicament I was in when I was rolled in the door. Very poor service, very poor follow up.

The absolute worst hospital in all of Hampton Roads, and possibly the worst anywhere. My wife was taken from the medical office building next to Maryview to the emergency room by ambulance for a serious spinal-tap injury, and despite her doctor calling the ER physician to alert her of my wifes condition and the need for immediate intervention, it was several hours before an emergent MRI was even performed, and several hours more before it was determined that she actually was in need of emergency surgery. During the more than 8 hours she spent in the ER, my wife was never examined by the ER physician. What little care she did receive was from a nurse and a PA. When finally contacted, the spinal surgeon was able to relieve the paralyzing pressure on my wifes spine, and for his expertise, we are extremely thankful. This was followed by a week as an inpatient at Maryview, where the care she received was adequate, but with none of the compassion or concern I would expect from a Catholic health care organization. She was then moved to the Maryview rehab facility attached to the hospital, where she spent several weeks just learning to stand and hopefully walk again. Some of the staff there were exceptional, but to others, it seemed to be nothing more than a job. We had to request that one nurses aid, who was extremely rude, rough and uncaring, be prohibited from entering my wifes room. While there, she suffered a partially collapsed lung and severe edema in her lower legs. I was eventually able to get her transferred to a nursing and rehab facility closer to our home in Chesapeake, where she was actually cared for as a patient, and where she was able to progress enough to return home after only a few more weeks.

Has anyone a a baby here. The service was great but I just took a look at the breakdown of my hospital bill and some of the charges seem a little off. I had a C-SECTION done for the birth of my 2nd child and the total charges for this was 4,236.00 for an hour and a half. Has anyone had a csection take this long? Also there is another charge for labor fees for 3 hours and I have no idea what it is for. Then the recovery that I dont even remember going to was also another 3 hours before going to my room. That is totaling 678.00. I have never seen anyone take exit hours to recover. Im usually wiggling my toes in 20 minutes and I still dont remember going to recovery. Also there are several other charges for test where I have never received results so I dont know if they really happened! Also my 3 year old who was 2 at the time went to one of the ER because he said his ear was in pain. He had already been to the doctor earlier that day and they gave him antibiotics. I signed him in and we went straight to the back. They looked at him and we were released. We were not even in there 15 minutes. I see the bill breakdown and it says "EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT VISIT LVL 3" for a total 1333 and I am paying 221.00 out of pocket. For financial assistance I have to be 200% to 400% under the poverty level and I dont even see how that is financially possible. As much stuff as I have been through with medical bills for minimal service (especially for service that never really happened) I am actually considering just getting a lawyer.

If I could give no stars I would. So last Wednesday I went to visit my friend who was staying there for a few days after a procedure. The male nurse that came to check on her (over an hour after she pressed the call button ) He came in gave her some medication, fiddled with the computer then realized she was empty on her IV began messing with the injection site removed the bandage, left the room, returned a few moments later replaced the bandage, flushed the IV, swapped the bag and left. THE ENTIRE TIME he NEVER USED GLOVES or SANITIZED HIS HANDS. I then see him walk into the next patients room and start that whole process over with no gloves or sanitation on the other person. I have since tried to contact the patent advocate and file a claim. I have called and left messages every day with out a return phone call. Also they also gave her no blanket just a thin sheet for the entirety of her stay (5 days) she was so cold she had the heat in there turned up to 85 and was still not warm enough.

I sat in an empty waiting room for 30 minutes before a triage nurse called me back , she was horrendously rude & asked the same question numerous times . Then I was immediately taken back to an emergency room where I waited for an hour ,then I went up to the charge desk, and Tameka snapped at me that shed be right in , 15 minutes later she came in and asked the same exact questions that the triage nurse asked then she left . 45 minutes later Carolina came in to take the urine sample I had ready for them as soon as I came into my room . then another 45 minutes went by and at this point it was 7AM , I went up to the charge desk and told them I wanted my discharge papers and Id be better off just dealing with my severe pelvic pain . they sent me back to my room where both of the nurses ran in and asked me more of the same question . Its not almost 8 AM and I still have not been helped . I tried to give this place a chance but it is horrendous . Murder view is its nickname and now I know why.
