DePaul is a WONDERFUL hospital. As someone with a chronic illness (along with many family members) I have seen the inside of many hospitals. The love and care I got from my team of doctors during my surgery there was outstanding. Makes me wish other 3 I had would have been there. The ER (yes they have a small waiting room) I have always received the best care, doctors and nurses that listen and the wait has never been any longer then any other ER waiting time. I would NEVER step a foot into Chesapeake General!!!! They are the closest to me but when they helped cover up a wrongful death and did not monitor my father better after his surgery (he died 2 weeks after his surgery from an infection) I would not trust them with anything. Sentara, in its own right has good and bad. But when you go to the ER twice for the same problem and the first time they missed the problem and I lost hearing because of them. Makes me wonder a bit about the care the doctors give and then when I go in for extreme in pain and the first thing they do is want to test me for is an STD instead of looking at my chart and seeing I have a history of this and them not listening to me when I tell them me nor my husband have been outside our marriage tell me that they are going to run them because people always lie to them. WOW!! and surprise surprise I didnt have one (and the shock on that doctors face I would have loved to have a picture of) and them just sending me home to end up in the same ER and them wanting to run the same test they had done the night before and when I told them I had just had the test and they were negative so why are you doing them again and all I get is because we are a teaching hospital. And the last times I was in the ER. I had fallen off a roof and hurt my back each time we went in there they gave me a shot and sent me home saying nothing is wrong took 2 years of being looked at like a junkie was so wrong. The last time I was there I had to yell at the Doctor and tell her I did not want her freaking pain meds I wanted to know what was wrong with my back she finally did a CT and did X-rays to find out I had torn disks and a lost of other crap I screwed up in that fall. If it had not been for my insurance telling me I had to use the Sentara hospitals I would have never gone back to the ER!!!!!! I guess my ranting point is with all I have had done and all I have seen in hospitals. DePaul has the nicest, most caring and at times (when I was scared before surgery) the funniest people I have had the pleasure to meet.

Absolutely terrible emergency room staff. The only employees who genuinely cared for my well being were the registration staff. I have been without dental insurance for well over a year and unfortunately had a cavity that soon took over the entire tooth exposing my nerve making it extremely uncomfortable to eat on that side of my mouth or drink. To get to my point my tooth became severely infected and was pushing out a lot of bacteria and pus. I tried my best to handle it at home using Tylenol, mouth rinse, orajel, etc. However about 11pm that night I was in agony ready to rip my own tooth out. I decided to go to DePaul since it is decently close to me. I waited for over 6 hours before even being triaged, was then taken for triage where there was a doctor already there waiting. I asked very politely even though my face felt like it was going to pop if they could possibly do a dental block (use lidocaine to numb my nerve) and before I could even finish my question the doctor cut me off saying that they rarely do that and in my case it wasnt necessary and told me I was fine without even examining my mouth. Furious I walked out, and surprise surprise...I got a bill in the mail being charged just to sit in the ER waiting room for 6 hours and to be treated like a burden. Ended up having to go all the way to Portsmouth Naval (I am a dependent) where they not only numbed me, but had the dentist on call do it so that it would last and prescribed me tylenol #3 as well as a antibiotic so that I could finally get some relief. DePaul ER, get your things in order before someone sues you for all you have...it will happen if you keep acting like this and treating patients with real emergencies like garbage.

This hospital is terrible, I went to the emergency room two days in a row and they did nothing to help me, I was having terrible back pain and they had waiting for hours before I could see anyone, I was also running a slight fever and my pressure was high. After a urine test and a scan of my belly they discharged me to go home with motrin, which I had at home that I was already taking. I came back the next day because I was in so much, I couldnt sleep or. It was so packed in the ER that the triage nurse called me in 45min later after checking in, and once she saw my chart and seen that I was there the day before she didnt want to take my pressure or my temp. She looked at the doctor who was also in the triage with her and told him I had been their already and they could find anything wrong with me and if he wanted to see me or send me home to call my doctor Monday morning. I told her I was in pain and felt miserable, and that was the only reason I came back. She then mumbled under her breath "This is crazy" so they sent me to the waiting area and I set there for about an hour only for them to discharge me without any thing. I will NEVER come back to that hospital, the only reason I went that night was because I live directly behind depaul and I was feeling so bad I needed to go to the closes place possible to get help. But I learned my lesson for now on I will go to Norfolk General where I will get treated with care. Sad to say I was born at depaul hospital.

I was in there Thursday night and had made complaints of a respiratory infection I possibly caught from my toddler daughter. I was not examined and when the nurse tried to run a test the physician’s assistant said not to worry about it because it usually came back negative anyway. So after that he looked into my throat and said I had a viral respiratory infection gave me a shot of antibiotics and I had a abscess on my neck well they decided not to cut and drain and gave me a prescription for pimple vanishing cream! And sent me home! Well when the next day cam I looked at my chart online where they lied and said they gave me a full exam which is a complete lie and once I called the head of emergency room said that some doctors can do exams just from looking at you, Complete lie! So the next morning I woke up to gasping for air and having to go to REAL emergency room where I was immediately placed on an EKG machine with a high heart rate and rushed to x-rays. They started treatment right away and I was diagnosed with pneumonia, respiratory infection, viral infection, and had to get my abscess drained seeing how pimp cream would not cure it. Im amazed at how poorly I was taking care of and how rude the staff was when I called back. So I will be contacting a lawyer this week. Since you guys seen it fit to not even try to help me and made it worse and let me go home without even an exam! I will never visit this hospital again!
