Although my doctor was very kind I left there with major concerns of my condition. Other staff were very rude and inconsiderate, at one point the registration person walks into the room in the middle of a examination whereas i was not wearing any bottoms what so ever. The docotor even stated loud and clear when she "knocked" that we were in the middle of something. Even with warning and the door already partically open by her own self she continued in to advise to me of an issue that could have easily waited. The door was closed for a reason. Very uncomfortable. She tells me what she needs to say and I say "okay?" As if to notion. "Why are you telling me this now?" I will be honest i have never liked this facility. I have had issues before where my mother was there for a bacterial infection from a prior surgery where she was litterally screaming in pain. A staff member, instead of at least comforting her with words, shushes her and closes the door to our room. I cant be upset at the lack of medication, I trust the doctors and their recommendations, however the rest of the staff, including those at the front desk, their lack of empathy is horrid. Rude, cold looks, lack of concern in their voice. I get it, you may be tired, its a long day, you deal with rude people yourself, I get it, but as an injured person or sick i should not be walking into the hospital and be made to feel like a inconvenience. When i was there today they didnt even give me a clear answer as to what was wrong. They told me "if it gets worse come back" I may have had a burst ovarian cyst. All they did was "rule out appendicitis" No ultra sound, they made sure to test me for STDs. For what? That is something I know is not a factor and you already said it could be a cyst? Why not continue to test for that? Why do you test me for something i know is not a factor in my situation? Almost embarassing.... THEN after my female doctor comes in and pushes on my lower belly she leaves saying "30 minites and the tests will come back" Okay fine. In the middle of getting dressed another doctor comes in and asks me to lay down and asks for the tenth time whats wrong! He pushes on me again, I have done this twice already, then he tells me "well get your papsrs so you can go" What about the tests? Why did you come in at all? You did not advise me of anything new, you didnt offically tell me if this was a cyst? So what? Come back when i have an infection? Ok.

My Mother was just a patient in the hospital for four days. 1)She did not get a single bath or shower, despite our asking daily from the second day. SHE CHECKED OUT OF A FOUR DAY HOSPITAL STAY WITHOUT EVER HAVING THE CHANCE TO BATHE. Truly disgusting and disgusted. 2)She was made to lie overnight in soiled linens. 3)She is a fall risk and was left on the toilet waiting for a nurses aid for 50 minutes. 4)Her bed was not remade with fresh linens when it should have been. (an incident separate from the first soiled linens incident) 5)The room was dirty, dust on floor and surfaces. The RNs were fine (several were great), the docs were fine, if overwhelmed, but the Nurses aids, the ones who truly make the biggest impact on your stay were TERRIBLE. Sullen and useless. The food was disgusting, like food you buy on the convenience aisle of the drugstore. It was like really bad school cafeteria food. Unbelievable. From now on we will ALWAYS go to Sentara Norfolk General, where our experiences have been stellar from the ER to the Heart Hospital. Oh, and the patient help line? Yep, they dont call back when you leave a message and theres usually a sign posted on the lobby desk asking you to call for help, rather than a person. Its truly weird. Ive never been in a hospital that didnt have a constantly manned front desk. Lastly, the cafeteria is closed at odd hours to transition from breakfast to lunch to dinner. Ummmm, have those in charge not figured out you can keep a cafeteria open during that transition for those who need to eat say between 10:30 and 11:30??? Poorly run hospital with ridiculous policies, improper and very low staffing. BUYER BEWARE. Often felt like a hospital with zero support staff, the cafeteria closed, like a neutron bomb went off and the only folks there were rattled overworked nurses and the patients.

On a recent visit to relatives in Chesapeake, VA, I had the misfortune to require urgent medical service. I had been diagnosed with fluid on the lungs by an urgent care facility and advised that I needed to get to a hospital emergency room as quickly as possible. I was given the name and address of Chesapeake Regional Medical Center. From start to finish I had what I would describe as an Excellent stay there. The Emergency Room personnel were extremely pleasant and professional. They did their thing before I was even asked about insurance. I was told that their only concern was my well being at the moment. From there I was ushered up to the sixth floor and put in a room. I have never seen so many caregivers in a hospital dedicated to each patient! You would have thought I was some kind of famous celebrity! I was treated exceptionally well, constantly monitored by the nurses and caregivers, had pleasant chats with them all, and was just treated like a Very Important Patient! The nurses were great. The aides were great. There were so many excellent personnel taking care of me that I cannot begin to remember all their names. The one that does stand out to me is Courtney. She was a great nurse and a Hoot!!! I apologize to all those that I cannot remember as Everyone was great! Thanks so much to ALL on the 6th floor for making what Could have been a Miserable experience a Very Pleasant and Tolerable one! I appreciate All of you! As much as I like all of you, I do NOT want to see you again!! Should that need ever arise in the future, it is Chesapeake Regional Medical Center that I would want, and especially the 6th floor!!! Thanks so much for being wonderful people!!

I wish there were a ZERO star rating. My husband had cancer surgery there. Our surgeon of choice ( THE BEST) operates there, which is the ONLY reason we went. The OR and PACU staff were excellent! But once he was admitted to a room, all turned to crap. Nasty tempered nurses asking why he was there (he just had his esophagus removed....a 7 hour surgery!, and all written right there in his chart!) Then, today he tells me they tried to force him to eat....AGAINST DOCTORS ORDERS!!! Aspiration pneumonia is a big concern right now, yet they tried to force him to eat anyway!!!! It was also in my husbands chart that he would like to speak to a minister if one happened to be on his floor at any time. The nurse gave me a hard time about that too, asking why he wanted to talk to clergy, what religion we were part of, etc etc. When my husband was in pain a few hours after surgery, he asked for pain meds, and a nurse who spoke little english came into his room and yelled "Whassa matta wif U????" This place is a living hell. *** Edited to add: Patient advocacy phoned me to discuss my concerns. She was very nice, and assured me these issues WILL be addressed. Its nice to know there is SOMEONE in our corner here. I appreciate someone being willing to listen, and take some action. Well see.....I also noticed there are supposedly 30 reviews here. I counted, one by one, and see 28. Suspicious about where the other two went, and why! Hope our nightmarish experience/filing complaints might help the next unsuspecting patient get better care. But I honestly wouldnt count on it.
