Wow.. Thats a tough order. (Describe my experience) I am a Veterinary Technician of over 30 years. Sadly; my German Shepherd developed KCS at the age of 6. It was a tough time for both of us. I couldnt afford the surgery he needed. After at least 5 months of trying all of the eye medications (that cost a fortune!) it was apparent, they were not going to work.. I had his left eye removed where I work, because it was the worst of the two. I then used lubricating drops every hour, or so in an attempt to keep him comfortable with his remaining eye. It worked for a while, but he was never "really" comfortable. I finally had to make the "big" decision. Do I put him to sleep? Or do I go for broke? I chose the latter. I was fortunate enough to have an appointment with Dr Ronald Spatola. He performed the parotid duct transposition surgery on Aspen. It went great at first. Then about five days later, we had a hurdle to cross. He developed some problems. I was very impressed with Dr Spatola. He called and texted back and forth with me for five days.( I was sending him pictures, etc..) There wasnt an eye doctor in my town that week, so it wasnt like I could take him for a recheck. All in all, without going into all of the details, I couldnt be happier with the care my boy received from Dr Spatola, and the staff in the Wilmington office, as well as the staff in the Cary office. Aspens problems were resolved easily enough, and he has continued to thrive. Today, he is a very happy boy. I thank Dr Spatola every time I look at my boy and he smiles at me. Today we spent two hours on the beach together, yesterday we hiked in the woods. The first time in far toooo long. Thanks again Doc! We both love you! You are the best!!! Sincerely, Denise Winner

Absolutely awesome. Our little Westie had eye surgery at our regular vet for a benign mass removal on her eyelid. Over the three weeks post surgery we dealt with worsening eye conditions--in both eyes. Little Roxie has dry eyes and it just went downhill after the surgery. After numerous frustrating visits to our regular vet to find out what was causing this problem, we insisted on seeing a specialist. Thank god we were referred to Animal Eye Care. The doctor there discovered a piece of suture that had been left under her eyelid from the surgery three weeks prior. Our poor baby was needlessly suffering for three weeks! The doctor was very thorough in his examination, diagnosis and explanation. He took to time to do the treatment right and her eyes were much better the very next day. We will be continuing to work with this clinic until she is back to normal. Lesson learned--If your dog is having eye problems and your vet is not providing effective treatment...dont wait. Get an appointment with this clinic. We are confident in their expertise and will not hesitate to visit them again.

Hands down the best, most comprehensive veterinary eye care in Virginia Beach. Dr. Spatola is excellent.
