This was a horrible experience. Please go somewhere else in an emergency! Our dog needed surgery to remove an obstruction from his intestines. When we arrived to drop him off, the lady at the front desk refused us because we didnt have a referral. For whatever reason they didnt get to referral from our regular vet. Once we gave them our copy of the paperwork, they were noticeably warmer and immediately accepted our dog. The next day we went to visit our dog after surgery. When we walked in, four women were sitting at the front desk talking and watching a movie. It took 20 minutes for them to bring our dog out to us. I figured they had taken our dog outside to use the bathroom before bringing him to us and that was maybe what was taking so long. When our dog was brought to us, we were also given a plate of food (canned chicken and some kibbles) and told our dog had been refusing to eat. We tried to feed our dog and he refused the food. Then we noticed he was sitting by the door, which is the signal for needing to use the bathroom. We took him outside where he took an extra long pee and poop. It was obvious no one had taken him to relieve himself in HOURS. Upon going back inside, he immediately began to eat the chicken. As we were leaving, a lady ran out into the parking lot and told us we needed to go buy canned chicken for our dog to eat. At first, I thought she was joking. Then, she went on to say that they had run out of chicken and since that was clearly what our dog wanted to eat, we needed to go buy more. Oh, and she also said we needed to buy chocolate as well. Chocolate? Seriously?! My husband and I stood in the grocery store debating whether or not to actually buy the chocolate. However, we were concerned that our dog would be ignored even more if we did not buy the chocolate, so we got it along with cans of chicken. Upon our dogs discharge, it was noted that the place on his arm where the IVs were was still bleeding and needed the bandage needed to stay on longer. By the time we got home, the bandage had been wrapped so tightly that his circulation had been cut off and his paw was double normal size. Im completely disgusted by our experience at Bay Beach and next time will go to Blue Pearl in the case of an emergency. Id advise you to do the same!

We had to have a pet put down this weekend and we are disappointed in the help we received. The doctor and techs that helped during the process did an excellent job but how we were greeted and questioned when we got there really made the process worse than it should have been. When we arrived I told the desk clerk that it was time to have our pet down. She responded by sating, "Why is it his time," and after I explained everything she responded by saying, "Well, a doctor needs to see him," and she didnt make any effort at all to get out of her chair to look at the pet. Now, I understand that they are not just going to put a pet down for any and all reasons and they need to ask some questions, however, there was no empathy, no compassion and no tact at all in how she was questioning us. When we walked in it was obvious my wife had been crying and she started again just because of how this clerk was talking to us. A simple statement to the effect of, "Im sorry to hear that, what is wrong with the pet," would have made a world of difference. Thankfully another staff member was at the desk and recognized that this was distressing my wife and took some action to help. While we were able to stay with our pet during the actual euthanasia, we were separated from him and left in the lobby for about 15 minutes while they prepped him. We really would have liked to have stayed with our pet the entire time but I accept that different hospitals have different procedures. But what made it worse was that the same clerk who greeted us so poorly brings us our pets collar while we are sitting in the lobby. We thought we should have been able to remove it or at least that should have been done in private. And while I admit we may have already been jaded about the clerk who brought it to us, we found her attempt at small talk to be very cold and impersonal and there was still no show of sympathy for what we were going through. Needless to say I dont know if we will return to Bay Beach should we ever have to put another pet down. Unfortunately the memory of our lost pet is marred with this experience and we don;t know if we will want to take the chance of that happening again. Thank you to the staff that did treat us nicely and treated us and our pet with compassion.

I would give them no stars if it was an option. You would think a place that provides emergency medical care to your pets would have caring, experienced people working there. I took my dog in at 4 a.m. because he was shaking and vomiting after eating something foreign. We were the only clients at that time and the front desk woman gave us paperwork to fill out. She was gone while we did that for 15-20 minutes. Keep in mind that we were there for an emergency. When we finally made it back to the waiting room, we waited a few more minutes for the vet. Dr. Burdine was not warm, friendly, or caring about my dog. She listened to his heartbeat, felt his stomach, and told me I could pay for $300 worth of blood work to see if he had pancreatitis, or they could give me anti nausea medicine and send us home hoping for the best. She couldnt tell me anything more. t asked what she thought personally and she said "What I just said." I was shocked that someone so uncaring was an emergency vet or any kind of vet at all. When we declined the blood work so that I could take him to my own vet during normal hours, she left and the woman from the front desk came in. When I told her we were declining the blood work and just wanted the anti nausea medicine, she said she needed to take my dog and scooped him up and went to take him into the back. I stopped her and asked what she needed to take him for. Turns out she was going to give him a shot and some fluids. Nothing was explained to me until I asked. They never asked if he was taking any other medications which he was (I marked on the paperwork that he took medication but was never asked about it.) Maybe I am spoiled by my regular vet but they love on my dog and are so sweet to him. The people at this location (at that hour) were so cold, uncaring, and unhelpful. I would recommend to steer clear of this place and take your pet to Blue Pearl if you have an issue. Someone told me about that place after the fact. What a terrible experience to have, especially when you are scared for your pets health!
