I had a complaint about my gum being sore and inflamed because my teeth had a gap. The dentist came to the conclusion that an existing filling in my mouth would be removed and made larger so that food could not get stuck. The filling was removed and during the procedure the dentist was drilling and I felt this sharp ZING in the tooth itself. Knowing I should be numb this alarmed me and hurt like heck! The dentist numbed me a little more and proceeded. The dentist noted that I must have not been numb so I went home not worrying. Once the anesthesia wore off I still felt that sharp ZING when eating or biting down. I gave myself time to heal but the pain was unending. I went back in to the office and was received with open arms. I was then told the filling would need to be removed and put back in, as something might have gone wrong. So I let them do this, knowing I didn’t have many options. The filling was put in for a third time essentially since the first filling I had was done in that tooth many years ago. Again, nothing fixed it, so I was told to wait a little longer then come back in to get evaluated. I came in on Wednesday 12/2/15 to speak to the Dr. for the 3rd time about this tooth. I received the filling on 10/28/15. At this point I’ve been unable to chew on that side of my mouth for 5 weeks. My frustration was high but I remained polite and calm. The Dr. wanted me to call their office on Friday 12/4 if I hadn’t gotten better….but what I did not understand is why I needed to call two days later to see if I feel better when on 12/2 I was in the office and all they did was file down the filling to a point it was so short I couldn’t feel it when I bit down. But I could feel it when I ate…it just didn’t make sense to me. Luckily, Barb, insisted I get an appointment with a specialist and on Friday 12/4 I saw a specialist at Northwest Endo on Lilly. When I went to the office I was prompted to pay $79 because my two evaluations had already been used that year. Although I used one at an old dentist and one at Hutchinson, I felt like this charge should have been reserved or paid by Dr. Hutchinson’s office because I was seeing this dentist due to this pain that was caused by the filling. I expressed my frustration to the specialist and he honestly did not show any sort of sympathy. I was given an xray and he hit my tooth 3 times with his dental wand. Then he sat me up and said I needed a root canal and crown on this tooth because it is cracked. I feel like this is something Dr. Hutchinson could have warned me about at least instead of sending me in blind. My personality is not an angry one so at this point I just couldn’t help but cry. I felt so misled by the dentist and although I understand they could not prevent the tooth from cracking the Dr. could have advised me against removing this existing filling just to decrease the gap size between the teeth causing the gum to be exposed. My tooth never hurt before it was simply just gum irritation and now I need a root canal and crown. The experience is simple as that, an experience, and although this dentist has 5 star reviews I would suggest you discuss all options with the dentist and all of the potential downfalls that could result from the options they provide. Live and learn.

I am 68 years old and recently moved to Olympia. One thing I found hard to get here is access to good medical assistance. Often I have been told that "the doctor is not accepting new patients". So when I lost a filling in a front tooth I was given Dr. Hutchinsons number by a friend. I have had very painful dental experiences in the past; my mother sending me to a dentist who would drill 10 to 20 teeth a year without any anesthesia (and often unnecessarily, I suspect to make more money). So I was very pleased when I went to Dr. Hutchinsons office. The receptionist, Sarah was one of the nicest people Ive ever met as well as Ariel the other front desk person. Dr. Hutchinson is kind, gentle, professional, experienced ,and a " good man" (having recently returned from doing charitable dentistry for the poor in Mexico). I was surprised when he told me an assistant would be doing the drilling (as this was allowed in WA) but was happy to find out that this was Barbara, the person who took my x-rays. She is one of most joyful people Ive ever met and had the most gentle touch so I felt no pain whatsoever. Then there was the hygienist, Samantha, who informed me that I needed to take better care of my gums, who was firm and efficient without being judgmental. The thing that I remember most while being under the effect of nitrous oxide, was all the laughter I heard throughout the office. I was happy also: I had great work done, felt NO pain, and had a pleasant experience. At the dentist, no less!!! I have, and would strongly recommend Dr. Hutchinsons practice.

Dr. Hutchinson is hands down the BEST Dentist I have ever gone to! I had been going to the same dentist office for over 35 years. Over the years, the dental practice had been sold 5 different times, yet I remained loyal to that office. I transferred for work to an area 4 hrs away from home, so I looked for a dentist near my office. Dr. Hutchinson was recommended by a co-worker. The BEST decision I ever made! EVERYONE in the office immediately made me feel welcome & as if I had been going there all my life! I feel spoiled every time I go there! I had a full check-up & cleaning and two crowns replaced. I have no trouble getting in for appointments & never have to wait more than 5 minutes once I get there. The dental care received is thorough and complete and everyone is treated as if you are a part of the family! Its a small practice, so you really do become part of their family! I never thought Id say this, but I actually look forward to going to the dentist! I recently retired and moved back to my hometown, but will definitely continue going here! Its worth the 4 hour drive! Risa F.

It can take a long time to find a dentist you trust, and that does top notch work. Dr. Hutchinson is one of those dentist. He is thorough and compationate. I was in terrible pain one weekend, and the Dr. Met me at his office, and took care of me. I cant think of many dentists that would do that. I live 40 miles away, but picked Dr. Hutchinson because I work in Olympia. If I ever changed jobs to one closer to home, there is no way I would change dentists. I would gladly drive the 40 miles to see him. Now of course its not just the Dr. That make his practice one of the best I have been to in my 52 years. His staff is also top notch. Always friendly, accommodating, compationate. Between the Dr., and his staff you cant go wrong choosing Dr. Hutchinson and his staff for all your dental needs.
