This is a review of Space labs and the Space labs monitoring systems. I work at a military installation hospital in Washington state (where Space labs is located). Our medical equipment selection committee did not choose the Space labs system, in fact it scored very poorly, however we somehow (cronyism) ended up with the Space labs monitors for the entire hospital. Among the many problems are, ineffective sPO2 in low flow or high svr patients, a distorted spO2 tone, a highly problematic 12 lead EKG which fails repeatedly to read requiring reformatting by our medical equipment service, and a constant barrage of unwanted and unnecessary alarms that cannot be turned off. The monitors are despised by Anesthesia, PACU, ICU, and floor nursing. The technical support for these monitors have been near nonexistent. I strongly caution any organization who is considering Space labs.
