Other reviews mentioned how difficult it is to call Help For Animals. Its true. To make appointments or ask general questions, go to their website and use the email form provided. Theyll call. They also use email to confirm appointments. The volume of patients and calls has made that system necessary. Once your pet has an appointment, or has an extreme medical emergency, you can reach them by phone. My review follows: I have four outside dogs and two indoor cats. Three of the dogs have been spayed/neutered so far. The latest was last Monday. Each time, the dogs came home happy. The experience there was neutral for them, *not* traumatic. The older cat was already neutered before I met his human. The female kitty is going in this Thursday for her spay. The other male dog is going for his neuter procedure in four weeks. I think the place is run well. Its very clean. The staff are friendly and professional. I have a vet for the pets, and the vets office recommended HFA for the spay/neuter procedures. Its most of their practice. Now that theyve seen all the dogs, I can go there to get the three-month flea/tick repellant that is given in snack form. I used it last year, and it was perfect. The place is fairly easy to find. Its near the Huntington Mall, outside of Barboursville, close to the freeway exit. Its tucked in with restaurant row. Once you find the Hampton Inn and Cracker Barrel, look for the tobacco store. HFA is behind it.

For the love of God. Do not take your pets here. We took our cat as a last resort because of cost. When we picked him up our carrier and the towel I had inside for his comfort was drenched in blood. Upon looking at him we notice a huge gaping hole where his testicles were and they said that they dont stitch them up that they let it scab over so it can heal naturally and told us to call in a week if it still looked like he had testicle. A week passes and we call because it still looks like he wasnt neutered, the lady I spoke to was rude and when I suggested that I was worried it was infected she snapped and asked me what would I know about animals and infections that Im probably overreacting and it looks that way because the cat has a hematoma and to not call back for a few weeks because itll take that long to heal. I keep calling back and hung up on and my cat now has such a large infection that it has spread up his tail and down his legs. This place will not take care of your pet and paying a little extra at another vet is most definitely worth your pets safety.

I rounded up my two cats and one dog, headed to Barboursvilles Help For Animals for our yearly vaccinations. Our appointment was scheduled for 10:30 a.m. We were there only 10 minutes when we were taken back. A really nice vet tech, examined each pet and gave each of them their shots. Since this was the first time for all three of these particular pets, I did not know how they would react. All did well and did not know they had received their shots. The costs are so affordable. I could never afford to help all of the animals that I do without their affordable quality care. They gave me copies of each animals shot record so I could take to my regular vets office and also copies for my home records. By evening one of the cats began feeling badly. She became lethargic, shot site swollen, and had a temperature. I called the clinic and consulted with them. They talked with Dr. Pinkston and it was decided to give the cat a childs dose of Benadryl. It took her almost 24 hours later, but she recovered completely and is now back to her normal happy self.

I brought my dog to Help For Animals to be neutered because this is the cheapest vet in the area. Horrible mistake! The people at the front desk are rude first of all. But the craziest thing I have ever heard of is that they somehow only removed one of his testicles. ARE YOU SERIOUS? A week after I brought him home I noticed what appeared to be a testicle. Took him back and they said that they must have missed it... Again. ARE YOU SERIOUS? So they say bring him back Friday and they will remove it for free. My wife takes him first thing in the morning on Friday and they say that they dont have her marked down while being rude. So they call the vet who was supposed to set it up to verify and do just that. My wife missed class and was late for work because of this. Now he has been neutered for the second time and I just check to see if it is healing ok and there is a gaping wound that does not even appear to have been stitched up. I will never take another animal to this butcher shop again and I would not recommend to anyone else to do so.

We had a great experience with Help For Animals! The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. We brought in two cats and a dog to be spayed/vaccinated. We arrived in the morning and even though there were a lot of people in front of us in line we were seen in a very short amount of time. We had an behavior issue with one of the cats but the the vet technician handled it calmly and effectively. The prices are extremely reasonable and quality of care is exceptional! The sutures on all the animals looked great and are healing just right. They used dissolvable sutures so we dont need to bring them back to get any removed. Also, I have emailed them on a few different occasions with questions and they always reply in a very short amount of time. All in all, Help For Animals is an awesome choice for animal care and I highly recommend them!

I was happy enough with the condition of the cats I had spayed but when I went into the back area to get one of my kitties I noticed there was blood splattered all over my cats carrier. I asked the vet assistants who were standing there and they LAUGHED and said "dont worry about it, its just from a cat we just DECLAWED and it shook its paw and flung blood everywhere" I personally find that to be CALLOUS and CRUEL. Cats do not need to be declawed in the first place and yet this place called "Help For Animals" sure wasnt much help for that poor cat were they? They do low cost spay and neuter and thats about the only thing I can think of thats positive. I doubt the lady that left the money to start the clinic would be happy if she knew what kind of people were running the place now :/

I had my puppy spayed and my older dogs teeth cleaned last week - very impressed and suprised with both services. Puppy spay was only $50 bucks - my vet here in SC wanted to charge me $280 for the surgery alone! For teeth cleaning, they wanted $400! Got my dogs teeth cleaned for $70 - whole experience cost $130. That cannot be beat. I was worried about quality per the prior comments - I absolutely disagree. Spay incision is so tiny its like its not even there! Lolas teeth look great. No complications with either. Totally recommend them - absolutely no reason to pay more when you can get good veterinary service at a reasonable cost.
