Last year I fell very ill in the middle of the night. I wound up taking an ambulance to your hospital. There seemed to be no one else in the emergency room other than me at the time. No nurse even came into the room until I was waiting for almost 45 minutes in incredible horrible pain all over my body. One nurse came in and did nothing...another nurse came in and did nothing...and finally one came in to draw come blood from me...she caused me INCREDIBLE PAIN from the needle and when I yelled out for her to stop, she wouldnt. (Mind you, I had just had a baby 5 months prior so I know very well what it is like to often get an IV put in my arm, I was and am no stranger to it.) When she continued to try to SHOVE the needle into my arm and I yelled out in pain, 2 other nurses came in to tell me that I "cannot scream like that and act this way"...I could not believe that 3 grown women were standing over an incredibly sick person IN THE EMERGENCY ROOM, who just came there in an ambulance, and told them to quiet down while someone carelessly stabbed me with a needle. I could not believe at all how little they cared and how they mistreated me. I wound up walking out of the hospital and walking home, sick as a dog. (Side note: I wound up having coxsackie A1 so yes my entire body was in incredible pain) Your establishment billed my insurance (EVENTHOUGH I WASNT EVEN TREATED FOR ANYTHING), and I did not dispute it. Then I got a bill in the mail from your lovely establishment for a $200.00 emergency room co-pay. I called and spoke to the head of your hospital, he told me he would look into it....only to find that you sent me to collections, which has now damaged my credit score by 80 points! Now everyday I get collections calls. So today I called in, and of course no one wants to deal with me, they simply sent me to someones voicemail. I am going to proceed by calling the news, the attorney general, and anyone else that will listen...because I will not take this abuse.

BE CAREFUL USING THIS HOSPITAL...Regardless what they tell you, this hospitals lab is not in GHI network. I was not informed in advance that their lab is not in my network. The third party, contracted lab charged me a lot of money for the lab work, and I have to pay out of network rate. Why does a hospital that is in the network use an out of network lab? It is beyond me. I could only say: they do not care or do not know how to manage their work. It also seems that their billing practice is rather aggressive. They billed for assistant surgeon ($6000), who I did not even know whether he/she was there at my surgery. What is more dangerous is that the assistant surgeon is again not in my GHI network. I complaint to the hospital about why they keep using the services/providers out of my network without me knowing it. They so far seemed to be willing to work with me. The last note is that the medical skills level seems to be not as good as expected. On the day of my surgery, after the admission, I asked the nurse who was helping me about whether I could use the bathroom. She said:YES! When I came out, another nurse said: Oh, no I need your urine sample. It seems that they are disconnected and the training is not even. In short, I do not think that I would use this hospital again.

I had a pretty good experience, my issue was not major, I went to ER, but they sent me off to some triage location called something else. It wasnt the ER room itself. Anyway, triage people were very efficient, and took great care to ensure they had the proper information before they treated you. This was done in a few hours after a blood test, I was on my way on a weekday at around 2pm though, so not much wait by the time I arrived. Medication someone wrote out was wrong, but luckily I took the RX paperwork given to me by the hospital into my pharmacy and the guy caught the error - my papers stated I need tablets, not liquid like the digital information sent to them had indicated I guess. Oh well. Overall, Id say this hospital is by FAR better than NASSAU UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER, please stay AWAY from Nassau! They didnt even detect my father was having a stroke one time and barely pay attention to their admitted patients for both my mother and father previously.... They must be underpaid too, because they are BLATANTLY rude, it was absurd I recall being shocked they could treat their patients at that Hempstead Nassau hospital like that.

I went to St.Jospehs hospital on Hempstead Turnpike in Bethpage New York with planned surgery for my right shoulder. I went to my doctor who takes my insurance, several times before surgery. I also went to the hospital on at least two occasions before surgery. To fill out paperwork before hand, and to a pre surgery physical. After surgery I started getting bills from the hospital!!, Now wouldnt it make sense to inform the patient that you do not take their insurance. Because they definitely tell you on the bill. In bold letters it says on the bill that they do not participate with my insurance plan. O.K.!! I guess I should have checked. But its also a natural assumption that if my doctor takes my insurance so must the hospital? Or at least the hospital!, My doctor or both should have informed me of this fact!? If you have GHI/Emblem Health Blur Cross Blue Shield stay far away from this hospital. I for one. I am getting a medi alert bracelet with my insurance plans and ID# engraved on it letting the EMT know to only take me to a participating hospital..............................

I have been to this hospital before with my father and they were very helpful, but when I needed to go in yesterday they were just awful. It was a Saturday and all of the workers behind the desk were talking and joking around. One tech laughed so much, he started to cry. They all jokingly said to each other "you stupid." No body paid attention to us once they have us a bed.. for 2 and a half hours! Then I had the nastiest nurse who gave me a shot in my arm that was very painful.. she said it will wear off. Then come to find out she was supposed to give me and I.V. and administer the meds through the I.V. because it is too painful any other way. Also, the highlight of the stay was seeing roaches crawling in the floor. My son killed one in front of nurse Rachet and she didnt say one word. I wouldnt have taken any food they offered us after that... not that they offered any food anyway. Also.. this hopistal does not do MRIs. The doctor said I need to find another place to do that... 5-1/2 hours for you to tell me you cant do an MRI. Never going back again!

I just had an emergency appendectomy TODAY and I have nothing but high praise for this hospital. Everyone from ER admitting to the ER nurses doctor and technicians to radiology were all professional caring and pleasant. All took the time to answer all my questions and kept me informed every step of the way. The OR staff and surgeon impressed me by their professionalism and seriousness - just where one would like to see that! Recovery was also great. Even the person who wheeled me out was nice! I arrived late morning and was home by early evening! Amazing for an unscheduled surgery. Not that they or I wanted to rush the procedure but it just worked out that way. Now Im home in bed resting comfortably. And no I dont work there nor am I related to anyone who does. Just relaying my experience. Hope it helps someone else if they have to decide on a hospital.
