I took my cat here because she was peeing blood, and I suspected she had a case of UTI. Dr. Megan Nunemacher suggested that my cat needed to stay for a few hours so that they could obtain a urinary sample, which is totally understandable. Now I felt Dr. Nunemacher was nice at first until I came back to pick up my cat. When I got there they told me that they were unable to get a urinary sample and that I would have to bring her back in TWO DAYS later so that they could "conduct an ultrasound to help guide them putting a needle into her bladder in order to obtain the urinary sample" Heres where the of unnecessary suggestions began; Dr. Nunemacher started suggesting that my cat would need surgery if she has stones (while the x-ray showed she did not have any stones.) She also suggested as I stated previously an "ultrasound". She was also insisting that my cat could probably have Feline Urinary Tract Disease. Keep in mind, my cat is only 4 years old and always has been healthy until this incident. She was going to send me home for two days without any antibiotics while my poor cat was peeing blood everywhere in my house and was obviously in pain as well. I insisted for antibiotics and I agreed to bring her back in for a follow up in a couple of weeks. She claimed that antibiotics do not always work after she had said earlier in the day that if I changed her food and provided extra water along with the antibiotics, my cat would be fine in the long run. Do you really think I am that stupid??? I know you were trying to pull, trying to make more money on a simple UTI CASE!!!! Anyway fast forward to two weeks later, my cat was feeling a lot better was not peeing anymore blood. I also changed her food and provide an extra bowl of water as well. I went to check her ears to make sure that they are clean because I noticed she was shaking her head a bit. That was when I saw it... EAR MITE INFESTATION in both of her ears.. My cat has been an indoor cat her whole life so there was no way she could have caught ear mites at home. She stayed at Bay Ridge Animal Hospital for a few hours and she caught ear mites while staying there. Which says a lot about how sanitary this place is. I was not going to bring her back there after what they tried to pull with me the first time. Instead I took her to Animal Clinic of Bay Ridge and my cat saw Dr. Lynn Mastrangelo who is absolutely awesome! She got right to the point and pulled no BS. My cats ear mites has cleared up beautifully thanks to Dr. Mastrangelo. Do yourself and your pet a favor, DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET TO BAY RIDGE ANIMAL HOSPITAL! They will burn a HUGE hole in your wallet with unnecessary tests.

PLEASE READ BEFORE VISITING THIS PLACE: This place is NOT the best place to take your pet if you really care about your furry family member. The doctors are inexperienced and/or do not care about your pet. In my time visiting this clinic, I have discovered that the doctors treat symptoms without caring about looking for cures. Consider this: My dog has anal sac issues and all the doctor here has done is have me return over and again for manual expression (and, may I add, has misdiagnosed how often to return, so my poor baby ended up with impaction). Never has the doctor even cared enough to figure out the root of the issue. To give more specifics, the doctor treated my pup in January this year and instructed me to return in 3 months (12 weeks). However, I began to become concerned as I watched my pooch and decided to bring her in at 10 weeks. When I brought her in, I was told that it would cost $1,250 to flush the sacs because there was impaction! WHAT?!?!? I actually returned earlier than what the doctor instructed, and I still end up with a costly, invasive procedure???? Imagine what would have happened if I would have waited! I was appalled that my poor little pooch ended up suffering! I was also dismayed that the front desk clerk (not the older woman who wears glasses and apparently eats gunpowder for breakfast, but the one who is usually pleasant) made light of the issue and gave me 15 cents back (my change for the days payment) and told me, "Youre going to need that" while laughing. For the record, my baby is worth whatever I need to pay to ensure that she is healthy; however, I do NOT find the inexperienced, uncaring medical staff at Bay Ridge Animal Hospital to be trustworthy, and I would NOT be willing to have them put her under anesthesia and do such a procedure for free (much less than for $1,250!). By the way, the other reviewers who state that this office tries to ensure that your bill is around at least $200 for every visit are CORRECT. Also, BEWARE when the doctor leaves and sends the tech to give you the diagnosis and estimate. The bill is going to be SKY HIGH. As I have stated, my pup is worth whatever I need to pay; however, I do not appreciate the idea of being bamboozled just because everyone knows that a loving pet owner truly cares for her furry family member. Believe me when I say that THERE ARE BETTER ANIMAL HOSPITALS OUT THERE WHERE THERE IS AN EXPERIENCED STAFF WHO ACTUALLY CARES ABOUT YOUR PET.

I took my kitten there today for the first time for general exam & vaccines. The entire visit was wonderful compared to what I had seen at the Animal Clinic on 86th St. The animal clinic barely looked my kitten over, told me he had ear mites & rushed me out the door. This place was so much better - the entire staff is friendly & knowledgeable, the veterinarians are all very friendly & you can tell the animals feel safe & well-treated. The vet I saw gave me no b.s., was excellent in handling my kitten as well as explaining any questions I have had. As someone that has had pets all my life, I was extremely impressed with the customer satisfaction nearly everyone in reception had (& noticed a lot of the people there were long-time customers, many known by name there). I would strongly recommend this clinic to anyone in Bay Ridge looking for a vet clinic. I had asked when I called an estimate on the price of the visit, & the final price was exactly that (I would always just make sure you ask so you know what you are looking at before having anything done, just to be sure you know what you are paying for!)

Thus far, I have had very positive experiences at the Bay Ridge Animal Hospital. To begin, the front office receptionist is extremely personable and professional. The young lady always greets with a sincere smile and is quite helpful. Today, I had to take my Shih Tzu in because of an ear infection. I called and was able to book an appointment right away. The technician (I regret not remembering her name) was so gentle in the collection of ear samples for cytology. Then, Dr. Morrison, who cared for my pup, was friendly, professional and knowledgeable. l truly appreciate her positive spirit and clear explanation. Jen, who was assisting Dr. Morrison, was also excellent in caring for my baby. She knew exactly how to distract my pup enough so that the doctor could look in the ear--a real feat. Thank you BRAH for being there!
