We took our cat to Dr. Pruden at the Bedford Stuyvesant Veterinary Clinic because she had a bite at the base of her tail from another cat. She was given surface stitches and a plastic head shield and antibiotics. More significantly, the area wasn’t bandaged. Within two days, she had gotten out of the shield (it wasn’t large enough) while we were away. She then chewed at the tail until the stitches were gone and she had bitten a deeper wound. We called. They said the doctor wasn’t in, they didn’t have anyone else, and they could only recommend some emergency clinic place. Instead, we took her to the Prospect Park Animal Clinic (here we’d been in the past.) They had to do double stitches (inner dissolving ones and outer regular ones). They gave her a larger shield. They put a very secure bandage over the stitches. They also said we should only be giving one antibiotic per day instead of the two that were prescribed by the first doctor. Two a day are known to cause various problems in cats. We paid the first doctor $418. The second one charged $332. I called Dr. Pruden to ask that we get some kind of refund on money which was entirely wasted. When I said that, without bandaging, it was too easy for the cat to get at the wound, and told her that it now had good bandages, she said, “Oh, I never put on a bandage.” I told her that I’ve had multiple surgeries and I’ve never left a hospital with open wounds, so I didn’t understand not covering the raw stitches on an animal. She also refuted the issue of the double dose of antibiotics. When she said, “Well, you should have just come back here” I asked her why we would return to a place that had done such an unacceptable job. She had no answer to that. She said she’d think about it and call me back. She didn’t, so I called back, and again she said she’d think about it. Again, after waiting some days, I had to call because she didn’t call me. At that point, she refused outright to give me any refund. Her bad practices caused our cat much further pain and trouble, since the new, deeper wound took longer to heal, and it caused us a great expense.

My previous visits with dog Sandy were rated 5 stars. This time I brought my 8 weeks foster kitten Velvet for a second opinion regarding severe eye condition before making a final decision with the shelter about surgery. Dr. Prudent was on medical leave and the sub vet was excellent. However, I cant get the medical record of the visit! Since they couldnt give it right away, the front desk promised to email it. I called later to remind, next day I walked in person and was denied. I begged, asked nicely and angrily-they didnt care. Ladies, this is not a broken nail problem, this is severe eye condition which needs a surgery! And I need the record urgently, not in a week, a month or a year! In case you didnt know how to attach a document to email, I came in person to pick it up. If you dont know how to press a print bottom, I could have shown. If you had no paper or working printer, I could have taken a snapshot with my phone! Do you have a heart at all? I wanted to notify dr. Prudent of what is going on during her absence, but was denied a number. Im too upset to ever come back to this office unless I hear from others that the front desk personnel have changed or their attitude to pets and their owners (fosters, in my case) has changed. This is unacceptable, inexcusable and simply WRONG! Shame on you, Lucy and Vanessa!

CHECK YOUR PRICES BEFORE YOU PAY. THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF. I went to this vet for some boosters and lymes disease antibiotics. I had the medical history faxed over but the Dr. had not read it so there was a lot of confusion about what should be given. I was charged over twice as much for the boosters as my other vet. The antibiotic was $135 for 20 pills of Doxycycline. I was told I would have to come back and get the other pills because he needed a check in. In the course of the conversation it seemed clear that he did not need a check in but that they did not have the rest of the medication. This may have been because if they charged me for the month supply they would have charged me $450 and it would have been more clear how ridiculous this was. I was in a hurry so I paid. After I immediately called Bidawee, my other vet. The Doxycycline for $20 pills was only $35. The lady at Bidawee told me $135 was insane to charge for that medication. Of course Bed Stuy Vet would not take the medication back when I complained. I asked why it was so expensive and the women at the desk said that she did not make the prices. No, but your boss does and the Dr. is taking advantage of people that do not know better. CHECK YOUR PRICES BEFORE YOU PAY. THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF.

I have a pit mix . Hes big. Hes friendly. But after one bad vet experience in Florida he has been very nervous with strangers touching his hind and anal area. No one would take his temp or do anything bc he would growl out of nervousness. Then they would judge him bc hes a pit type dog and label him aggressive. The staff here did no such thing. He walked in giving everyone kisses and walked out giving everyone kisses. Yes he growled the moment they went to take his temp l. They simply said lets put a muzzle on for safety and they kept going. Knowing he was only nervous , talking to me in the process which also calmed me down , therefore calming my dog Opie down. They were great and Im never going anywhere else. Also al reasonably priced compared to other locations.

Be very careful with this place, especially Dr. Pruden. If you have a cat with feline diabetes, she only prescribes one course of treatment and will refuse to treat your cat if you as the owner decide to keep the animal on insulin. I tried her way for a while, my cat seemed to be doing well, then he stopped eating one day. Her response was to go pick up some different food. I took him to the animal hospital and my cat has ketosis in his urine (possibly from taking him off the insulin too quickly) and almost died. When she got word of this, she refused to continue to see him if I kept him on the insulin. This woman is an animal herself.

My beautiful amazing 3 y/o French Bulldog was killed by my neighbor and I was an emotional physical wreck.... My partner found this vet office online and we took him into this office with Godspeed! We were rushed right into a room and taken care of immediately. Their compassion and professionalism is compared to none! We were allowed to stay as long as we needed and given every option of what we could do to make his burial process smooth and easy. While these decisions were being made, they made our other Frenchie very comfortable as he was in total shock and already grieving the loss of his brother.
