If I could give your Veterinary practice ZERO stars I would! My family has been bringing animals to your practice for years, and the quality of care has continued to decline! From my mother being told she was bad pet parent for having a sick animal euthanized (because she couldnt dish out thousands of dollars on a surgery that had less than a 50/50 chance) to the care you have provided to my 5 animals personally. When my 14 year old rabbit, yes he lived to 14, had to be euthanized you left me sitting in the waiting area ALONE crying my eyes out while my animal was taken from my hands, euthanized, and I was handed back a dead body in a box! I have NEVER heard of a practice not allowing you to be with your animal for this procedure, but you had no problem with it. Then I bring in a Great Dane puppy, and one of your vets tried convincing me Hills Science Diet puppy food was the BEST food for him and lectured me on how uneducated I was for feeding a raw diet, mind you this was AFTER telling me how healthy he was and how wonderfully he was growing/developing! This same vet tried to convince me to neuter my Dane puppy at just 4 months old! Anyone who knows anything about extra large breeds knows that is a huge no no; their body needs to develop properly BEFORE being neutered, and 18 months or older is the recommended age but Im not vet so my opinion and research didnt matter. Then offering to cut my newly rescued bully breed mixs nails and he was quicked so bad the powder didnt even work to stop the bleeding! The whole foot had to be wrapped up; Ive never quicked him, but again Im no vet so no one cared what I had done or how I did it... but you were so nice (*note sarcasm) to tell me you wouldnt charge me for that service, I mean you only clipped 2 nails and one had my dog bleeding EVERYWHERE, but youre the professionals. And lastly and most importantly the straw that broke the camels back! My Dane ended up sick and not eating, he was brought to your practice for an "emergency visit" as we knew something wasnt right, well it took about 5 minutes to even be acknowledged... sounds like an emergency, right? After tests and xrays etc he was diagnosed with gastroenteritis, no big deal. Then he was prescribed 3 medications to "make him better," and given the MAXIMUM dosage of metronidazole for his weight/size; 3000mg per day, 3 pills (500mg each) every 12 hours 6x500 = 3000mg every 24 hours! We were given no drug information, but apparently this drug can cause all sorts of issues with the nervous system! Well, when my big 167lb boy was collapsing in my backyard and I called your practice to see if this was a side effect of the medication I was told, "Someone will call you back." YES! Because a 19 month old puppy collapsing randomly isnt important; why did I need called back you may ask? Oh, because your practice decided there should be an ALL staff meeting DURING regular business hours which you should be open and available! Instead, I received an answering service who could NOT help me! Luckily, my neighbor referred another vet (who I will be writing a rave review for) and helped me get my dog in my car for transport. Not only was someone willing and able to take my call they wanted to see him IMMEDIATELY! I shared with this office the drugs he was prescribed and was informed right away he has metronidazole toxicity, and started showing pre-seizure symptoms. Had they not taken me right away he could have had a full blown seizure, and I would not have known what to do as I was NOT aware this drug could do this to my dog! Did you know 1/3 the amount your office prescribed would have actually cured his GI issue?! But, Im no vet so what do I know? This drug caused an issue with dogs nervous system and could have been much worse had I not made it to a vet when I did. And to make matters worse, when your office FINALLY returned my call (after he was already hooked up to IVs and being treated) your vet chose to talk over me and be argumentative! So much more to say, but it exceeds the character limit

We took our dog in for a nailbed infection and nail clipping. Dr. Malissa gave her an antibiotic, barely looking at her paws, and the tech clipped her nails. The vet just really seemed like she didnt want to be there that day. A few days later, one of her nails split completely from the quick. We had never had a problem with her nails before, and I know that nail problems can be tricky. We took her in and another vet removed the nail, but after I asked if they could give her something for pain he said theyd spray something on it. That didnt make me happy, but they did remove her nail. We asked about the cause of the condition, and the vet said it was likely because her nails were too long before. I had never heard of this, and after much online research can find nothing associated with that. A few days later, another nail came off and we took her back (reluctantly) to see Dr. Josh because he seemed nice during her regular check-up (and like he actually liked his job). Dr. Josh said it was likely due to her nails being too long before and pulled the second nail. He did not recommend a biopsy, give her anything for a fungal infection or try to diagnose the problem any further...even after my husband asked him. Now, a third nail is coming off, and clearly the problem is not related to a nail clipping a few weeks back and is something more serious so we have opted to take her to another vet for treatment. I strongly believe that animals should not be made to suffer through painful treatments because vets are either (a) too lazy to administer anesthetic treatments because they are sending pets through like cattle and cannot see an ROI on what they charge or (b) because vets fail to look at the real source of the problem and recommend possible sources of the problem and prescribe preventative treatment. Maybe I am being too harsh, but my dog is very, very dear to me and deserves the very best. The vet tech we dealt with, as well as the front-end staff, were very kind. I believe this establishment is making their money off spending as little time as possible with your pet. I hope you have a different experience here, or that you go to another vet as soon as you realize that something is not right.

I would like to share my experience talking to the manager of this hospital. To begin with, my call was not returned until I picked up the phone and dialed again. I finally got the receptionist on the phone trying to schedule an appointment for my cat who has recurrent UTIs. Weve always provided our cat with attention and care but we dont necessarily believe in being overcharged for vet services, especially when the cat has a specific health problem but otherwise is healthy. Legitimately, I asked for the manager to explain to me the cost and purpose of some of the services my cat would receive. When I inquired about the purpose of the general exam when the cat has a specific health issue and would certainly receive a urine extraction and get a lab analysis, the manager mentioned that the general exam is "required by NYS law" in order for the veterinarian to prescribe medications. That was sufficient by me, except that as a lawyer I wanted to actually read that law myself. And so I asked the manager if she could give me more information about the law she was citing! In reply I got a very sarcastic, agitated and angry answer from the manager who obviously was disturbed by my inquiry and stated that I was no longer going to receive any services from them. At the very least, she could have provided an explanation for her own statement in which she cited a state law but refused to give me any information about it. I thought it was incredible. She was unprofessional at best. I do not recommend this place to pet owners. McClelland Animal Hospital staff was much more professional and friendly.
