On July 2016 I visited my physician Dr.Robert Y.Lin and he placed an oximeter on my finger -thus, seeing that my pulse was upraised (also I lost a lot of weight and appeared slender) he was concerned that I might be regressing to a low hemoglobin blood count and could need a blood transfusion. Thence, when we were concluding our meeting he lifted up the telephone and called his colleague Dr.Chaekal requesting her to admit me to the NY Lower Manhattan hospital for an express blood test. He handed me his referral note along with two sheets of directions to the location and told me to go there without hesitation and that Dr.Chaekal was the best in her field. I relied on his words and readily did so. By car it is seen the East river with sailboats, when driving by car one can go underneath the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridge. Nonetheless, going by vehicle to William Street might be congested and tardy at the arrival time for an hour or more. Dr.Chaekal called me on my cellular phone when I was caught up in traffic -I greeted her and mentioned that I will be arriving late. She was comprehensive. When I entered the hospital, the desk security smiled and he typed in my information, giving me a visitor ID -he said to go through the wooden doors to locate the "Infusion center." Dr.Chaekals staff were fabulous! Dr.Chaekal came inside and saluted me with "we were looking for you!" Dr.Chaekal spoke with me about my health history and made copies of my previous blood test done at the Charles B. Wang Community Health Center. The rooms at the Presbyterian are sparkling clean with sofas and televisions. The rooms each can be separated at the front (for privacy) with curtain dividers. Dr.Chaekal was very alert with me and every patient, she regularly came inside each patients room asking questions. My blood tests were done in twenty minutes. I received the most essential results first which were "cbc w/plateles+diff (complete), auto differential, reticulocyte count" -Dr.Chaekal told me to guess my hemoglobin number and she said I was non-anemic! However, there were some issues with the white blood cells "the absolute retic, lymphocyte automated" were low. My health condition varies due to conditions and circumstances. After three days I obtained my additional blood tests through my Presbyterian online account. Dr.Chaekal was brilliant, she cordially listened to me and gave me copies of my blood test results. She told me that Dr.Lin was worried about my health when he called her and she advised me to follow up on my health with him. It was a pleasure to meet such a responsible hematologist! When I exited the hospital with bandage on arm I walked three blocks and went to a restaurant for takeout and walked beside the sunny park. It was a bright day!

Even though New York Presbyterian has taken over this hospital it is still just as terrible as ever. Granted they have cleaned the place up a bit since my last visit where I found operating rooms filled with medical waste that hadnt been cleaned, but the staff and service here is still remarkably poor and frankly juvenile. I had to come in for a broken foot on a slow Sunday evening and while listening to staff members joke and laugh out loud about my name in a mildly amusing fashion it still took over five and half hours to get an x-ray and a temporary cast. Since I travel frequently for work I requested an air-cast which is pretty much standard issue and was informed by the doctor that they didnt have any of those in stock and would instead they would have to create a splint out of ace bandages and plaster (is this 1980?). They then referred to me to a doctor who doesnt accept my insurance to get an air cast and discharged me at 9:00PM on a Sunday with no pain medication whatsoever--even after I requested it. They gave me a prescription for pain meds but failed to understand that since I was on crutches hobbling to a 24 hour pharmacy wasnt an option. After the most unbelievably uncomfortable night of my life I was able to get the medication and am finally able to concentrate long enough to write this review. I really hope this hospital is able to pull it together at some point since it is the closest one to my home, but honestly if you have an option dont bother with this place. Go to NYU Langone where they actually know how to run a hospital.

This is the worst hospital i have ever been to, my fiance had a stroke. While in the emergency room, they walked him to the bathroom and left him alone while wearing a fall risk wristband, and he fell, leaving a big black and blue on his knee. The second thing that happen, was the Doctor, came into the room to confirm the stroke, he let us know that he had multiple mini strokes and in the middle of the sentence, he left in a hurry, we thought he was coming back, and he never did, no compassion or professionalism what so ever, they are very lax, and lack knowledge. I have so much more to say about the say about his stay, he stayed in the section 4A, its suppose to be the hotel stay of the hospital, some of the staff in that section do not understand what fall risk, flighty, or impulsive means, luckily we were there for him. He was given a personal care technician because he needed it, there was one disgusting pig named cheryl who must have them in the palm of her hand, she was rude, loud, arugmentative , she was standing 6 feet away from the patient with her arms crossed, i could not believe that her unprofessionalism was accepted, while talking to her manager about her, she stood standing a few feet away from us, singing and humming and her manager accepted it, there is so much more than that. if u feel u might have to be admitted, avoid this one at all costs, there is so much more that when wrong, but who can write them all down??

This was the worst hospital ER experience ever. I went in July 7th at 11:30pm with major stomach pains, they never even drew blood or requested a cat scan and verbatim the doctor said to me "I dont want to say you wasted your time coming here but you kind of did. You have gas and you need to go home and take gasX." When I asked for GasX while they drew up my discharge papers (which took forever) he said "Itll take 45 minutes from the pharmacy" so basically no. I was doubled over in pain. It was 4am now and nothing was accomplished. I hobbled home. Cut to less than 12 hrs later I was in the OR up at Mt. Sinai having emergency surgery for twisted bowel that could have either killed me or needed a colostomy bag for who knows how long. I was EXTREMELY lucky that my bowel, once untwisted during surgery went back to pink and healthy and I was sewn back up. Definitely counting my lucky stars that I did not just go home from that initial ER visit, sit in pain, pop GasX and think that those doctors at Downtown Hospital knew what they were talking about. I am not the type of person who goes online and writes scathing reviews but when this came so close to a disastrous outcome, I wanted to let whoever reads this blog to know about this terrible experience. I would proceed with caution when going to this ER.

Staff is irresponsible, slow, machines beep constantly and no one comes to help or to fix it. I have been sitting next to a beeping machine next to me for the last half an hour and no one has come to fix it. Nurses avoid the responsibility and push it off to other nurses. They do the bare minimum. Water is a luxury here. Spoons are out of the question. Chairs are a luxury as well. If some one takes borrows a chair from your room, you will have to wait an eternity for the staff to "speak to their supervisors" in order for them to consider returning a chair to your room even though the other room with no patient has 4 chairs. The nurses are lazy and do not clean the patients thoroughly. You can tell because the filth builds up and they begin to smell. Nurses do a quick wipe down and consider the patient clean. The ER only allows one visitor per patient with no exceptions. If your family member is in critical condition in the ER you will have to take turns visiting them one at a time. The nurses forget to change the IVs half the time. Their response time is unacceptable. I gave this place 2 stars because SOME of the nurses ACTUALLY DO THEIR JOB, are nice and respond in a timely matter. Some are rude and ignore your suggestions and observations because theyd rather not do more work.
